Abstract: Novel 9-amino-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroacridines and related compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is H, loweralkyl, or benzyl; R.sup.3 is H, loweralkyl, a group of the formula CH.sub.2 CHR.sup.2 Hal wherein R.sup.2 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or phenyl and Hal is chloro, bromo, or iodo, or a group of the formula CHR.sup.2 CO.sub.2 R.sup.5 wherein R.sup.2 is as above and R.sup.5 is H or loweralkyl; Z is O or S; X is H, halogen, loweralkoxy, loweralkyl, or trifluoromethyl; n is 1, 2, or 3; the group ZR.sup.3 is bound to either the A- or B-position of the heteroaromatic nucleus; the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof; and the optical isomers thereof, useful as intermediates for the preparation of memory dysfunction relieving hexahydro-1H-quino[4,3,2-ef][1,4]benzoxazepines are related compounds and for relieving memory dysfunction are disclosed.

Abstract: This invention relates to an aminoglycoside composition having reduced nephrotoxicity induced by the aminoglycoside which comprises a selected aminoglycoside and a compound present in an effective amount selected from the group consisting of (a) at least one 7-(oxoalkyl)1,3-dialkyl xanthine of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and are independently selected from the group consisting of straight-chain or branched alkyl radicals with 2 to 6 carbon atoms, cyclohexyl, straight-chain or branched chain alkoxyalkyl and hydroxyalkyl radicals; and A is a hydrocarbon radical with up to 4 carbon atoms which can be substituted by a methyl group; (b) a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein at least one of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is a branched hydroxyalkyl group of the formula ##STR3## with a tertiary alcohol function, which R.sub.6 stands for an alkyl group with 1 to 3 carbon atoms and n stands for a whole number from 2 to 5, the other R.sub.3 or R.sub.

Abstract: This invention relates to alkylamino and alkyl amino alkyl diarylketones of the formula ##STR1## where Ar is aryl of the formula ##STR2## where V is hydrogen, halogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, CF.sub.3, No.sub.2 and u is an integer of 1 to 3; X and Y are independently CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 -- or --CHF--; Z and W are independently --CH.sub.2 --, --O--, --CHOH--, or --CHF--; m, n, p, q and t are integers which are independently 0 or 1; R.sub.1 is H or loweralkyl; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are loweralkyl; and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof and where applicable the geometric and optical isomers and racemic mixtures thereof. The compounds of this invention display utility as analgesic agents and as agents for alleviating various memory dysfunctions, characterized by a decreased cholinergic function, such as Alzheimer's disease.

These benzodiazepines are useful as antidepressants, analgetics and anticonvulsants. The 2-amino-.alpha.-phenylphenethylamines are useful as anticonvulsant and neuroprotective agents.

Abstract: An aromatic substituted glycoside is disclosed of the formula ##STR1## wherein the configuration of the substituted --OR on the anomeric carbon is alpha, n is an integer of 0 to 1, and R is a substituted aromatic radical selected from the group ##STR2## where R.sub.1 through R.sub.6 are independently halogen, NO.sub.2, SO.sub.3 H, ##STR3## where R.sub.7 is lower alkyl; and includes its stereoisomers, optical isomers and geometric isomers and mixtures of the foregoing isomers. These substrates are useful as direct substrates for alpha-amylases. A process for the preparation of the substrates and related substances is also described.
