  • Patent number: 4239927
Abstract: In producing synthetic hydrocarbon oils by polymerization of olefins using aluminum halide as the catalyst, organic halides are produced. These are corrosive to metal equipment and are poisonous to certain hydrogenation catalysts. This invention is concerned with reacting such organic halides with an aromatic hydrocarbon in a system also containing the polyolefins thus forming an alkylation product with both reactants prior to removal of the aluminum chloride catalyst.

  • Patent number: 4237063
Abstract: Synthesis gas is converted to valuable hydrocarbon or alcohol products over catalysts comprising metal cyanide complexes which have been activated by treatment with a reducing gas. The metal cyanide catalysts of this invention, when compared to prior art catalysts, demonstrate increased water gas shift activity such that more oxygen is rejected from the process as CO.sub.2 rather than H.sub.2 O, thus improving the economics of the synthesis gas conversion process.

  • Patent number: 4236996
Abstract: Isomerization of xylenes in admixture with ethylbenzene by contact with a zeolite catalyst such as ZSM-5 is improved by use of zeolite which has been steamed at high temperature to reduce activity, the reaction being at a temperature above about 700.degree. F. At these conditions, conversion of ethylbenzene follows a different reaction path which permits high conversion of ethylbenzene to benzene without loss of xylenes of disproportionation.

  • Patent number: 4235754
Abstract: A metal combustion promoter is introduced to the circulating inventory of catalyst in a catalytic cracking unit as a mixture of particles rich in metal with particles free of metal such that the net concentration of metal in the mixture is about 1 to 10 ppm. According to a preferred embodiment the particles rich in metal contain about 50 ppm of platinum, iridium, osmium, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium or rhenium. When such mixtures are supplied to the circulating inventory, it is found that specific activity of the metal is enhanced in the sense that activity of the mixture for oxidation of carbon monoxide is higher than that of catalyst in which an equal amount of metal is evenly distributed among all the particles.
