  • Patent number: 7342501
Abstract: A package includes a container having a neck finish, and a closure having a plastic shell with a skirt externally secured to the container neck finish. A seal disk includes a metal layer on a plastic substrate. The periphery of the plastic substrate is sealingly secured to the neck finish of the container. The metal layer of the seal disk includes a circumferentially continuous outer periphery overlying the outer periphery of the plastic layer and an interrupted inner portion within said outer periphery. An RFID assembly includes and an RFID tag electrically connected to an antenna. The RFID assembly is captured between the seal disk and the plastic shell, and the interruptions in the inner portion of the metal layer of the seal disk reduce or eliminate interference in communication between the RFID assembly and external interrogation circuitry. A liner disk may be disposed between the seal disk and the RFID assembly.

  • Patent number: 7337758
Abstract: A charge motion control valve actuator method and apparatus that utilizes a motor, output shaft, control circuit, and sensor to provide closed loop control of the position of the output shaft via the motor. The control circuit has an input for receiving actuator commands and has an output connected to the motor to control operation of the motor. The sensor is connected to the control circuit and provides the control circuit with data indicative of the position of the output shaft. The output shaft is connected to the motor via a gear set and coil spring. Feedback from the sensor enables the control circuit to control the position of the output shaft, and the control circuit can also output data relating to the position of the output shaft.

  • Patent number: 7334551
Abstract: A pull-cord start system has a recoil pulley coupled to a crankshaft of a combustion engine and a pull-cord wound about the recoil pulley which is pulled by an end user to rotate the recoil pulley and thereby start the engine. A throttle override device of the pull-cord start system has a shuttle coupled to the pull-cord for movement from a biased rest position to an active position when the pull-cord is being pulled by an end user. A linkage of the throttle override device which is preferably a Bowden cable extends between a throttle control and a throttle valve of a carburetor and is associated with the shuttle so that actuation of the throttle control when the shuttle is in the active position will not open the throttle valve which preferably is biased to an idle position because movement of the shuttle to the active position produces slack in the linkage.

  • Patent number: 7331570
Abstract: A gas spring with a piston rod assembly received for movement between retracted and extended positions in a casing defining a main gas chamber. The piston rod assembly when in its extended position cooperates with a portion of its retainer and the casing to at least in part provide a secondary gas chamber separate from the main gas chamber and having gas trapped therein at a higher pressure than that of gas in the main gas chamber to reduce the force required to initially move the piston rod assembly from its fully extended position toward its retracted position.

  • Patent number: 7332089
Abstract: The invention provides a use of a material comprising antimony silicate as a sorbent in the removal of metal ions, e.g. radioactive metal ions, from an acidic liquid medium. The metal ions may be selectively removed from amongst other ions such as Na, K, Mg, and Ca ions. Strontium is particularly effectively removable in this way. There is also provided a method of preparing an antimony silicate material for use in removing metal ions. The invention further provides a material comprising antimony silicate doped with one or more elements selected from the group consisting of tungsten, niobium and tantalum. The doped material has been found to be particularly effective as a sorbent in the removal of metal ions from a liquid medium.

  • Patent number: 7326312
Abstract: The process for laying a non-full width course of fiber composite tape in a part is designed to ensure that all of the scrap portion of the tape surrounding the non-full width course is deposited in the scrap area and not in the part. An extra cut is made in tape downstream of the non-full width course, between the non-full width course and next course. After the tape head attempts to lay the scrap in the scrap area in the forward direction, the tape head makes a pass in the scrap area with the tape feed and the tape head moving in the reverse direction, and the scrap is laid beginning from the portion of the tape having the extra cut, and progressing to the non-full width course. The method may be used to remove scrap from around non-full width courses having any shape.

  • Patent number: 7320525
Abstract: A rearview mirror reflects ambient light and dims when light from headlights of a following motor vehicle is detected. Electrochromic mirror glass is fixedly secured to a frame within an opening. A sensor is fixedly secured to a housing for sensing ambient light and focused or glare light directed toward the rearview mirror. A light guide is disposed between the housing and the sensor for directing the ambient light and glare light outside the housing toward the sensor. The rearview mirror also includes a switching device for periodically disrupting the transmission of the light to identify a presence of the glare light, such that the sensor creates a dimming signal upon the identification of the presence of the glare light to dim the electrochromic mirror glass. The use of the switching device minimizes the number of sensors required by using the same sensor for measuring ambient light and glare light.
