  • Patent number: 4865805
Abstract: Composition and method for producing a low-sulphur, free-machining steel, substantially free of lead and including in weight percent about 0.05-0.40 copper, 0.005-0.040 tellurium, 0.002-0.35 bismuth, 0.002-0.05 tin, up to 0.55 carbon, and less than 0.25 sulphur, traces (up to about 0.005 weight percent) of barium, and the balance being iron. The elements bismuth, tellurium and tin are added as a molten alloy to the molten steel and uniformly distributed therethrough. The elements copper and barium can be added separately into the steel stream ahead of the molten addition inflow. The mass is then cooled to provide a solid metal casting substantially free of blemishes and free of surface checking and tearing. The casting is characterized by enhanced machining properties.

  • Patent number: 4852803
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle for an internal combustion engine includes a valve member which is slidable in a nozzle body. The body is provided with a bore in which is formed a seating and to support the valve member there is provided a sleeve which is an interference fit within a wider portion of the bore. Fuel under pressure is conveyed by grooves defined on the outer surface of the sleeve from a nozzle inlet and the fuel flows from the grooves through slits formed in the sleeve, to a space defined between the valve member and the bore. The pressure of fuel acts on the valve member to lift the valve member from the seating and the slits are sufficiently narrow to retain particles of dirt entrained in the fuel.

  • Patent number: 4850307
Abstract: An improved intake cup apparatus for use in an automated feeding system of the type utilizing feed supply conduits and feed conveyors providing troughs to present feed to caged poultry and the like. The improved intake cup properly meters and directs feed from the supply conduits to the feed conveyors and assures the conveyors will not become over-filled. The physical structure of the improved intake cup apparatus comprises a cup body having openings formed therein to receive feed from a supply conduit and allow a helical auger-like element of the feed conveyor to pass through the cup body and collect feed therefrom. Collection of feed by the auger-like element as it proceeds through the cup is restricted however, by an open-sleeve member partially surrounding the auger within the cup body and a restrictor plate partially covering the remaining auger access. Certain void areas are also created adjacent the auger and thereby assure overfilling will not occur.

  • Patent number: RE33065
Abstract: A compact low cost track registration detector for radon gas and radon daughter products includes a housing with a removable closure cap for retaining a strip of track registration material having the property of forming damage tracks along paths traversed by alpha particles. The strip is retained within the housing by integrally formed upstanding ribs located closely adjacent diametrically opposite inner side wall portions of the housing, a first set of ribs forming a pedestal support and second set of longer ribs providing transverse support. A microporous filter impervious to particles and radon daughter products admits only radon gas to the interior of the housing. The apertured closure cap has a central solid portion providing a radiation shield for the upper surface of the strip to enable the lower exposure surface to be readily distinguished after the detector has been retrieved from an exposure site.
