  • Patent number: 5727842
Abstract: Devices for holding baby bottles for infants in car seat with or without crash bars. One device, for a car seat which does not have a crash bar, contains two fasteners which may attach to each side of the car seat or to the seat of the automobile. Each fastener is attached to an adjustable cord, which in turn is attached to a sling. The sling is preferably filled with foamed plastic to create a soft surface for the infant. A holding cord is attached by its center to the center of the sling. The ends of the holding cord wrap around the baby bottle and may be snugly secured to hold the bottle. A second device is designed for car seats with crash bars. This device comprises a flexible arm containing a spine made up of a plurality of segments. The arm is attached to the crash bar. The distal end of the arm is attached to a bottle rest which contains straps for securing the bottle. Each of these devices permits the bottle to be kept within the easy reach of an infant.

  • Patent number: 5716040
Abstract: A safety vehicle lift having a unitary base, a lifting assembly, a drive mechanism, a handle, and a ramp. The base is made of flat rigid construction. The lifting assembly has a lower portion secured to the rear part of the base, a support platform above the lower portion, and cross-linkage elements connecting the lower portion and the support platform in a scissors-like configuration. The support base has side walls, a front end with an upturned edge, and a rear end with an upturned wall. The cross-linkage elements have pivotable ends secured to the rearward parts of the lower portion and the support platform. Each cross-linkage element is made of two bars coupled together. The cross-linkage elements also have ends secured within horizontally disposed recesses within the lower portion and the support platform. A drive mechanism is made up of a jackscrew passing through a threaded cross brace. When the jackscrew is turned, the threaded cross brace moves horizontally.

  • Patent number: 5615849
Abstract: A microwave deicing and anti-icing system for aircraft wings, rotors, and airfoils. Microwave energy is absorbed in a propagation tube inside the leading edge of the aircraft wing and turned into thermal energy. An highly absorptive coating on the interior surface of the tube and a mirror/insulator are used to insure the most efficient transforming of the microwave energy into thermal energy. The thermal energy is then conducted to the skin of the wing, rotor, or airfoil by thermal transfer vanes to the skin of the leading edge of the wing, rotor, or airfoil, so that the temperature in that part of the wing, rotor, or airfoil can be raised and maintained well above the freezing temperature to break and prevent ice.

  • Patent number: 5611578
Abstract: A tool for tying knots in the necks of inflatable objects, such as balloons. The tool is an elongated member having two side surfaces, a top surface, a bottom surface, and opposing tapered ends. Each tapered end contains a recessed area in the top surface. There is a receiving slit in each recessed area. The distal portion of the receiving slit may have a "V" shape to increase ease of access of the balloon neck. The tool is made of a lubricating plastic, such as a mixture of ABS rubber and at least one of high density polyethylene, high density polypropylene, and silicone in order to decrease the friction between the tool and the ballon. To further decrease friction between the tool and the balloon, the tool contains small protrusions or dimples which decrease the surface area of contact.

  • Patent number: 5610591
Abstract: A liquid level alarm system which activates an alarm when liquid in a container falls below a predetermined level. The system contains an alarm which is located outside of the container. The alarm is electrically connected to an activation device which is contained within a housing. A single-pull switch arm is connected to the activation device and protrudes from the housing. One end of a line is attached to the distal end of the arm. The other end of the line is wound about a spring reel mounted on an axle connected to a float. When the surface of the liquid is between a predetermined upper and lower level, the spring reel maintains the line taut directly below the switch arm. The line is of such length that should the liquid in the container drop below a predetermined level, the float will no longer be supported by the liquid, and the weight of the float will pull the arm down to activate the alarm.

  • Patent number: 5584593
Abstract: A toothbrush containing a hollow handle, a neck and a head. The hollow handle contains toothpaste and a compressible plastic pad. When pressure is applied to the plastic pad, toothpaste is forced from the hollow handle through a duct in the neck and out of openings between bristle tufts on the head. A self-adhering plastic cover covers the openings in the head to prevent crusting or the toothpaste. The plastic cover may be reapplied following use to allow for a plurality of uses before the toothbrush is discarded.

  • Patent number: 5531777
Abstract: A heat or cold pack composed of a flexible container and a composition comprising crystals which are exited to vibration by heat, moisture-absorbent fiber particles, and temperature-retaining solid particles. The pack is capable of drawing moisture from the air. Heating of the pack causes excitation and vibration of the crystals which then causes penetration of heat or cold into the deep tissues similar to ultra-sound therapy. Sequential application of cooled and heated packs are useful for the treatment of sprains, pulled muscles, edema caused by injuries, and other conditions.

  • Patent number: 5507483
Abstract: An apparatus for returning basketballs falling in front of the backboard to a shooter at the freethrow line. The apparatus may be mounted to the backboard, a free-standing post supporting the backboard, or to the hoop bracket. The apparatus contains a closed frame which bends down away from the backboard. The closed frame supports a return surface such as webbing or sheeting. Sidestops are rotatably and removably secured to the closed frame for the purpose of ensuring the return of more balls which fail to go through the hoop. The apparatus may be easily attached for use, detached following use or swung into an out-of-the way storage position.
