  • Patent number: 4920949
Abstract: A cooker that can be fueled by the oxidation of a number of sheets of newspaper wadded together. The cooker includes a rectangular bottom wall that is horizontal, impervious and supported by legs depending from its corners. The bottom wall together with upstanding side walls, front and rear walls integrally joined at its peripheral edges define an open topped housing. The upper edges of the front and rear walls support a removable grill basket of two hingedly connecting parts for holding food with a sheet of aluminum foil inserted in the basket therebelow, such sheet being of a size substantially to close the open upper end of the cooker. The side walls have heights exceeding the top of a supported basket to constitute wind shields. Hoods are affixed to the outside upper margins of the front and rear walls that have air communication with the interior of the housing through such margins to constitute a convective air inlet for supporting oxidation at the bottom of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4733534
Abstract: A motion transducer wherein a variable volume chamber of a trochoidal rotary mechanism is operatively connected by a liquid working fluid to a variable volume chamber of a reciprocating piston mechanism, whereby a rotary motion can be converted to a reciprocating motion and vice versa. An internal combustion engine directly productive of aone of such kinds of motions is drivingly connected to the transducer to obtain the other kind of motion as output. The piston of a reciprocating internal engine can be movable in unison with the piston of the reciprocating system, or alternatively, the rotary shaft of a Wankel-type internal combustion engine can be directly coupled to the rotary shaft of the trochoidal rotary mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4656984
Abstract: An improved "Wankel-type" rotary engine wherein the same trochoidal cavity employed for effecting a four-phase internal combustion engine operation is also employed to perform a supercharging function in that air is compressed in one chamber (chambers being defined between seals of the rotor with the wall bounding the trochoidal cavity) and transferred to another chamber in synchronization with the latter making its transition from its intake to its compression phase, with such transference being carried out in a manner causing substantial turbulence. The engine can optionally be operated in a diesel mode with diesel fuel injection being made at the conventional phase condition, or as a spark ignition engine with gasoline carburetion of air fed to the supercharging compression chamber being effected. Engine exhaust heat is optionally applied to compressed air or air-fuel mixture as the latter is being transferred respectively in the diesel or spark mode of engine operation.

  • Patent number: 4606927
Abstract: A minute color coded identifier having a longitudinal axis, which is transversely color banded about its periphery. The identifier may, for example, be 0.015 inch long, have a transverse dimension of about 0.004 inch and have seven or more color bands such as to be observable under a power of 10 or more magnification. A method of making such identifiers, as well as a method of applying the same to articles for later identification is disclosed that involves a dispersion of identifiers in a transparent and hardenable cementitious liquid such as nitrocellulose in a suitable volatile solvent such as acetone and ethyl acetate, e.g. a common clear fingernail polish.

  • Patent number: 4595336
Abstract: An elevated and elongated boom is centrally pivoted for rocking movement in a vertical plane through the horizontal plane. Provision is made to align such plane with the direction of the wind. A pair of free wings are mounted on the fore and aft ends of the boom with control panels being oscillatably mounted on such wings for determining, by their relative positions and aerodynamic equilibrium reaction thereto, the angle of attack of such wings. Provision is made to control the relative positions of the control panels with respect to their respective wings so that the wings have angles of attack of opposite sense, with such senses being reversed as the boom approaches each predetermined limit of its rocking motion. The fore (canard) and aft wings are positioned and sized relative to each other to equalize their moment contributions to the rocking motion of the boom. Alternative wing structures are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4516374
Abstract: An insulation module fabricated from ceramic fiber blanket material. The module includes a horizontal base of blanket material and body portion of blanket material secured to the top thereof. The body may be blanket material in a zigzag or Z-configuration with free ends seated against the base or a series of U-folds with the bight portions thereof being remote and directed from the base. Alternatively, the body can be blanket material wound into helix of an overall rectangular cross section and having its free edge seated against the base. The base can be formed of superposed blankets that are staggered or offset so as to make rabbet-like joints with corresponding parts of adjacent modules. The modules, which are generally of rectangular configuration, are provided with protective covers that protect them, retain them in a prestressed (laterally compressed trapezoidal) condition, and which facilitate installation.

  • Patent number: 4482789
Abstract: A controlled access socket assembly wherein a locking device prevents unauthorized movement of the actuator of an electric switch that selectively connects and disconnects a source of electrical power to an electrical outlet socket adapted to receive the male plug of an electric power cord. A plug holding device is movable between positions that selectively holds and releases a power cord plug from being held in the socket. A cam is operatively associated with the switch actuator to urge the holding device to its holding position when the latter is in its plug-releasing position when the actuator is moved to cause deenergization of the socket, with the cam preventing movement of the holding device to its releasing position solely when the switch actuator has been moved to cause deenergization of the socket.

  • Patent number: 4479653
Abstract: Golfer training apparatus wherein a base is adapted to be strapped to the user at a position in the vicinity of where he positions his hands when addressing the ball. An elongated handle guide has one end secured to the base by a ball and socket joint, such guide being flexible and resilient with an elongated tubular member that simulates a golf club handle being slidable on the guide so that the user's hands are subjected to forces due to the coaction of the handle on the flexible and resilient handle guide that can be readily learned to correspond to a proper back swing and follow through, while virtually preventing the golfer from rearing up. The position of the ball and socket joint is adjustable and the same can be readily disassembled.

  • Patent number: 4475373
Abstract: A pipe straightening tool that includes an operating unit that can be inserted forwardly in a pipe as far as needed by use of detachable handle extensions. The unit includes an elongated lower segment and a parallel upper segment thereabove having a nose segment pivoted at its forward end for movement of the forward tapered end of the nose segment toward and away from the tapered forward end of the lower segment. The upper unit is movable toward and away from the lower segment on operation of a pair of connecting toggle linkages having a common actuator. A hydraulic cylinder unit is disposed between and connected to the actuator and another toggle linkage connecting the lower and nose segments so that extension of hydraulic cylinder unit concurrently urges upward movement of both the upper segment and the nose segment. All the segments present outwardly facing surfaces that are conformable to cylindrical surfaces. Boots can be attached to the segments to increase the effectiveness of the tool for larger pipe.
