  • Patent number: 6531935
Abstract: An analogue phase shifter with vector modulator is envisioned. The analogue phase shifter has an input stage that provides the generation of a pseudo-basis of four vectors. The analogue phase shifter has a multiphase filter. The analogue phase shifter has an output stage that controls the amplitde of the basis vectors, and acts to recombine them. The input stase is made with a phase opposition signal generator and a multiphase filter. The input stase is made of four variable attenuators. The attenuators are for separate control of the amplitude of each of the basis vectors. The output stage also has a common output providing the summation of four quadrature channels. In one case, the output stage includes two differential amplifiers. In another case the quadrature channels are connected to the common output through buffer amplifier stages, each followed by a summation capacitor.

  • Patent number: 6527734
Abstract: A system for facilitating hemostasis of a puncture site in a blood vessel injects an absorbable sponge pledget in a hydrated state to a position at an exterior of the blood vessel puncture to facilitate hemostasis. The system includes a tract dilator for locating the puncture, an introducer, and a pusher. The introducer includes a staging chamber for receiving the absorbent sponge pledget and a delivery chamber having a diameter smaller than a diameter of the staging chamber into which a hydrated pledget passes. The pledget is hydrated and compressed within the introducer and then ejected with the pusher to the delivery site to facilitate hemostasis of the blood vessel puncture. The system delivers the absorbable sponge pledget over a guidewire to ensure the proper positioning of the pledget over the puncture. The implanted absorbable sponge once delivered expands rapidly to fill the target site and is absorbed by the body over time.

  • Patent number: 6519674
Abstract: A configuration bit layout for a reconfigurable chip includes address bits stored along with configuration bits. The blocks of data are loaded onto the reconfigurable chip from an external memory and the address information is decoded to load the configuration bits onto the correct locations in the reconfigurable chip. In this way, configuration data need not be stored sequentially in the external memory. Configurations can be allocated into different slices of the reconfigurable chip as well.

  • Patent number: 6516204
Abstract: An inexpensive, PCMCIA-based radio transceiver is provided that interfaces to a separate baseband modem, which may itself be PCMCIA-based or may be an internal modem of a notebook computer. Together, the PCMCIA-based radio transceiver and the baseband modem realize a wireless modem. In order to miminize cost and increase versatility of the resulting wireless modem, the radio transceiver is a relatively unintelligent, protocol-agnostic, slave device that is controlled by commands issued by the baseband modem. The baseband modem may be a hardware modem or a software modem. In either case, the character of the baseband modem may be changed by downloading new software. The radio transceiver may also be exchanged for another within a family of radio transceivers, each of which customized for a particular radio standard. The result is an extremely flexible, extremely low-cost wireless modem solution.

  • Patent number: 6489741
Abstract: Motion of a substrate-transporting robot arm is controlled in order to compensate for inaccuracies and deflections encountered during operation. The compensation is effected by synchronizing elevational and planar motions of the robot arm such that the trajectory of the substrate is made coincident with the object axis of the substrate. The substrate may be a semiconductor wafer, an LCD panel or an end effector of the robot arm. The synchronized motion is achieved using a controller issuing control signals to arm actuating means based on synchronization algorithms developed during analytical or experimental robot learning sessions.

  • Patent number: 6456713
Abstract: A circuit for notifying a PBX that a data port in a telephone connected to the PBX is about to be used. The circuit comprises a current sensor for generating a signal that indicates a modem is drawing current through the data port. A large resistor limits the current being drawn through the data port to a level that does not indicate an off-hook condition to either the PBX or the modem. In response to the signal generated by the current sensor, a separate telephone circuit provides an off-hook condition that draws a first dial tone from the PBX. A microprocessor in the circuit generates a signal that causes a dialer in the telephone circuit to dial a number that notifies the PBX that the modem is attempting to access the PBX through the data port. After the PBX is notified of the imminent data port usage, it presents a second dial tone on line two which is the dial tone for an outside line.

  • Patent number: 6452239
Abstract: The present invention, generally speaking, provides a magnetic memory element that is single domain in nature and has a geometry that mitigates the effects of half-select noise. In a preferred embodiment, the magnetic memory element takes the form of a magnetic post or tube having an aspect ratio in the range of 2:1 (more preferably 4:1). The outside diameter of the magnetic tube or post is preferably less than 0.8 microns, more preferably 0.6 microns or less. The magnetic post or tube then functions as a single magnetic domain. In the case of a magnetic tube, the skin of the tube is formed of a magnetic material and the interior of the tube is formed of a non-magnetic material. Suitable non-magnetic materials include copper, gold and silicon. The coercivity of the magnetic tube structure may be adjusted by adjusting the thickness of the magnetic skin. As a result, the magnetic memory element is readily scalable to smaller geometries as lithographic techniques improve.

  • Patent number: 6447534
Abstract: A system including an adaptor and a syringe is used for facilitating hemostasis of a biopsy tract or other puncture wound by delivery of an absorbable sponge in a hydrated state into the wound. The adaptor includes a tapered lumen for hydrating and compressing the relatively large absorbable sponge for delivery through a relatively small cannula, such as a biopsy needle. The hydrated absorbable sponge is injected through the biopsy needle into the biopsy tract by fluid. Alternatively, the sponge may be delivered to the biopsy needle by injection of fluid and then delivered to the biopsy tract by a plunger or stylet. The system may also include a trail staging chamber for inspecting a condition of the sponge before delivery. The implanted absorbable sponge facilitates hemostasis at the biopsy site or other puncture wound and minimizes the chance of internal bleeding. The absorbable sponge material is absorbed by the body over time.

  • Patent number: 6443390
Abstract: Device for pressure tapping, integrated into the fuselage of an aircraft, comprising an integrated plate (10), without discontinuity, with a pressure tapping part in the center (16). The plate (10) enters a supplementary opening (22) formed in a fuselage panel (20). The plate (10) and the panel part (20) surrounding the opening (22) are fixed on a supporting element (18) linked to the framework of the aircraft (34, 36). In the case where rivet, screw or bolt type fixations are used, they are placed at the edge of the plate (10). This arrangement facilitates assembly and improves the precision of the measurement, by suppressing any discontinuity in the measurement zone.
