  • Patent number: 5335572
Abstract: The invention relates to a method, an apparatus and sheets of materials for producing marked security threads as are used to increase the protection of documents and papers of value against forgery. The inventive method is for processing, in particular cutting, security threads out of sheets of material in register, the sheets of material being fed to the processing units in exact alignment. The feed principal is based onguiding the sheet of material on at least one edge of the sheet, determining the position relative to one of the edges of the sheet, producing a signal from the determination of position, andpositioning the feeding device relative to the processing unit so that the sheet of material runs into the latter in a predetermined position.

  • Patent number: 5302108
Abstract: A mold closing apparatus and process for use with an injection molding machine are described. The mold is opened and closed by hydraulic pressure. The disclosed apparatus and method relate to the use of an immobile differential piston within a displaceable, double-action differential piston which moves within an immobile piston cylinder. This arrangement permits the use of smaller diameters to produce the necessary closing force. The immobile differential piston contains the necessary hydraulic passage for routing hydraulic fluid to the appropriate surfaces for exerting opening and closing forces. The use of a plurality of displaceable, single-acting pistons in parallel with the differential piston further reduces the diameters needed for exerting the claim force. Locating these single-acting pistons within the support column cylinders makes for an ever more compact apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5297340
Abstract: A parting tool for parting seams and/or cutting threads or the like is disclosed. The parting tool may include an arc-shaped blade located between two tines of unequal length to effect a cut. The long tine may have a thorn-like point and the short tine may have a spherical thickening above the blade. The tines pass over into a shaft, which is fastened to one end of a shaft holder or mounting. The shaft mounting may include at its other end a pressure surface oriented perpendicularly to the blade and a rotation axle located at a defined distance in front of the pressure surface and oriented perpendicularly to the blade. The rotation axle may be rotatably supported in the lateral surfaces of a casing open within the rotation range of the shaft holder. A stop is provided within the casing for the shaft of the parting tool in the swivelled in, rest position. The stop may be a spring elastic element.

  • Patent number: 5298922
Abstract: A multilayer identity card exhibits an outer color layer of a first color and an inner color layer of a second color to allow for identity cards and the like to be written on in several colors. While the outer color layer absorbs virtually no laser beam light used for writing, the second, inner color layers absorbs the laser light. This causes the material of the second color layer to be thermally broken down during the writing operation, i.e. vaporized, sublimated, exposed to a chemical or physical reaction, so that the formation of pressure and resulting eruption blasts the first layer into particles. This makes the second color layer visible. Instead of the second color layer one can also provide a transparent layer of varnish having suitable properties in order to expose a multicolor security print, for example, below this transparent layer of varnish.

  • Patent number: 5291883
Abstract: An apparatus for transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TNS) with a power supply, a frequency generator and an electric circuit for the generation of different output frequencies of variable intensity at the output electrodes which may be connected to the apparatus and to an output short circuit to improve the pulse form emitted. The output short circuit network comprises a transistor T1, which upon actuation by a triggering pulse activates with its collector the base of a subsequent transistor T2, in a manner such that the trigger pulse is inverted in the transistor T1, whereby the transistor T2 switches to the negative pulse flank and the outlet is short-circuited by the discharge resistor R(ent) connected to the emitter side.

  • Patent number: 5283589
Abstract: A UHF mobile radio communications antenna that may be mounted on a vehicle window without drilling into or damaging the surface of the vehicle. An exterior part includes an antenna element and a resonant coupling circuit, and may be removably mounted to the exterior of the vehicle window. An interior part includes a resonant coupling circuit and a ground counterpoise, and may be removably mounted to the interior of the same window and positioned in alignment with the exterior part. The exterior and interior parts are in radio frequency communication by electromagnetic coupling therebetween. The interior part functions additionally as a radio frequency ground counterpoise independent of any vehicle metal. The interior part is adapted for connection to a mobile radio transceiver by coaxial cable. No post installation tuning of the invention is required and, thus, the invention may be easily installed without special skills.

  • Patent number: 5250119
Abstract: A process is used to clean a filtering centrifuge. A base layer of filtered matter remains on the filtering medium of the centrifuge after the removal or repeated removal of a portion of a solid cake of filtered matter by a peeling blade and discharge apparatus. The process removes the base layer of solid filtered matter by initially penetrating and flooding the base layer with a liquid and then strongly braking or rapidly accelerating the drum of the filtering centrifuge to rapidly reduce or increase the rotational speed of the drum, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5249262
Abstract: A Component Intersection Database Filter is a mechanism to process conjunction-of-constraints queries which does not require indexes, allows arbitrary query complexity without exponential explosion in query processing time, and is inexpensive to implement. For a wide variety of queries, this Component Intersection Database Filter Engine drastically reduces the amount of processing required to determine the final answers. For certain queries it can eliminate all incorrect answers, thus requiring no further processing. It is of linear complexity. High speed filtering can be done with simple hardware or software. Further, the processing can be combined with conventional selection filtering and both performed in a pipelined fashion as data streams off disc. The processing is accomplished by building a filter by intersecting predicate instantiations of corresponding unknown components and then filtering potential solution facts by eliminating those with terms corresponding to unknowns not within the intersection.

  • Patent number: 5241285
Abstract: A phase locked loop circuit may be utilized as a low jitter clock regenerator in order to generate an extremely stable low jitter signal which is to a large extent immune from input phase and frequency noise. The slaving clock generates an output at a fixed phase relationship to a reference input. The clock regenerator is advantageously implemented by a logic gate type phase detector connected to a multi-stage loop filter. The loop filter output is connected to a phase correction circuit whose output is mixed with the loop filter output to provide a control input to a voltage controlled oscillator. The voltage controlled oscillator output may be provided directly, or through a frequency divider, to a feed-back input of the phase detector.

  • Patent number: 5234221
Abstract: An elastomer seal is described which is useful for forming a sealed, flat mounting surface on a curved housing. The elastomer seal has a flat sealing face opposite a curved sealing surface. An angled transition surface is adjacent to the curved sealing surface forming a bevel. The bevel assists the seal in properly deforming so that a sealing area is formed across the curved housing. This seal provides peripheral and central contact so that the distribution of compressed seal material is well spread over the surface of the sealed area. The elastomer seal is able to effectively seal housings with radii of curvature from 1 to 6.4 times the curvature radius of the curved sealing surface.

  • Patent number: 5231508
Abstract: A signaling gauge may utilize a magnetically actuated variable resistor made up of a plurality of noncaptivating, magnetically actuated switch elements, each of which is mounted in an influence zone of a path of a magnet carried on an arm of a condition sensor such as a gauge movement. The arm may be an indicating pointer of the gauge. The gauge may alternatively utilize a magnetically-sensitive, variable-resistance element in a contactless arrangement with a magnet. The variable resistance element may include a plurality of noncaptivating, magnetically actuated switch elements and associated resistors mounted in an influence zone of a path of a magnet. The contactless arrangement eliminates the need for electromechanical contacts.
