  • Patent number: 5141139
Abstract: A sliding gate valve for metallurgical vessels, such as pouring ladles, is disclosed. The sliding gate valve may include a slide gate housing fastenable to a melt-containing vessel. A heat-resistant closure plate may be held stationary by a movable slide plate pressing against the closure plate. The slide plate may be supported in a frame having two sets of rollers. The frame may be connected to a drive, for example a hydraulic or pneumatic drive. An aperture may be provided in the housing bottom for passage of the frame rollers therethrough. The distance corresponding to the axial spacing between the sets of rollers is equivalent to the distance corresponding to the axial spacing between side apertures of the bottom aperture. The axial spacing between the rollers corresponds to the axial spacing between the side apertures to allow for the simultaneous passage of both sets of rollers through the side apertures.

  • Patent number: 5139436
Abstract: A connecting element establishes an electrical connection between two mutually rotating parts, such as the steering column and the steering wheel of an automotive vehicle. The connecting element includes a stator fastened to the steering column and a rotor fastened to a hub of the steering wheel. A current conductor in the form of a flat ribbon cable is carried on the rotor and passes through the walls of the rotor and the stator for the establishement of electrical contact between the power source and a power consuming device. The rotor and stator of the connecting element are combined in a cassette and each may be equipped with a multiple pole socket to receive a locking pin connector. Each locking pin connector has a predetermined number of poles corresponding at maximum to the number of poles of the multiple pole socket. • Patent number: 5110006
Abstract: A heat insulation system may protect surfaces along which a hot gas stream is conducted. The insulation may be several plies of slightly compressed ceramic fiber mats, separated by intermediate plates. Cover plates are attached to the hot side. The cover plates are mounted by holding bolts on the support structure carrying the insulation. The support structure may be the liner of a nuclear reactor pressure vessel. Thickness and size of the cover plates are optimized with regard to the stresses occurring at the edges of the holes provided for the holding bolts to ensure dimensional stability of the fiber mats and the functional capability of the metallic mounting system during a long period of time. Several sealing sleeves may be arranged on each holding bolt. In a first solution, some intermediate plates exhibit lug-shaped points stamped out of the plates on both sides in vertical areas of the heat insulation system. The lug-shaped points which transfer the forces of the fiber mats to the intermediate plates.

  • Patent number: 5101858
Abstract: The valve needle of a gas sealing valve for plastic processing plants may be controlled by a control valve, which in turn is controlled by a working gas volume in order to prevent formation of internal waviness in injection molded articles even under very high gas pressures and to assure high flexibility in production without refitting delays. During plastic mass injection the valve needle seals tightly. During gas return the valve needle remains open until the gas bubble in the mold cavity is completely emptied.

  • Patent number: 5028378
Abstract: A safety system controlling extremely unlikely disturbances in high temperature reactors in addition to and independent of the normal reactor protection systems. Accident instrumentation located in the high temperature reactor monitors certain characteristic process parameters (hot gas temperature, cold gas temperature, cooling gas pressure), for values of which clearly exceed limiting values of the reactor pressure system. The measured data is evaluated electronically and power supply to the cooling gas blowers, feed water pumps and absorber rod holding devices is interrupted if predetermined limiting values are exceeded. The power supply interruption is further actuated by temperature and pressure sensitive devices located in the nuclear reactor. A manually operated emergency switch is provided to turn off the aforementioned sensibilities.

  • Patent number: 5021158
Abstract: Process and apparatus for the separation of mixtures of substances by means of centrifugal forces, particularly for the filtration and/or sedimentation of solids from suspensions, wherein the material mixture is rotated in a cake-forming chamber until a cake of solid particles is formed. The resulting cake may thereafter be washed with a wash liquid, centrifuged and discharged from the cake-forming chamber. Discharge from the cake-forming chamber results in rearrangement of the solid particles of the cake. The cake of the rearranged particles is transferred to at least one further processing chamber and dried by centrifugation before being discharged from the apparatus.
