Patent number: 5363944Abstract: A floating-frame spot-type disc brake is described comprising a floating frame (1) guided in a manner axially displaceable on a brake carrier (12), and being furnished with two brake cylinders (2, 3) and two brake pistons (4, 5) directly acting on two axially inwardly disposed brake shoes (6, 7). The brake carrier (12) is located entirely on one side of the brake disc and no portion extends across the outer edge of the brake disc (15), so that the maximum diameter of the brake disc is limited only by the relatively thin sections of the floating frame (1) extending across the outer edge of the brake disc. Additional brake shoes (8, 9, 22), on the axially outer side, are fixed to the floating frame (1), in turn transmitting the circumferential force acting on the outer shoes occurring during braking through a bolt guide (10), into the brake carrier (12).Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1992Date of Patent: November 15, 1994Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Rudolf Thiel, Ulrich Klimt, Andreas Doell

Patent number: 5362141Abstract: A method of assembling elements into a valve block is described, especially for use with slip-controlled brake systems, a sealing ball, valve covers or valve seats are inserted into the valve block to be sealed without using force fitting swaging or other mechanical working of the parts, to avoid contaminating abrasive particles generated by those processors. The elements are inserted into openings in the valve block housing with a clearance fit, and heated to a temperature higher than the austenite starting temperature causing a memory shape to be restored, which provides a sealing fixation of the elements in respective openings in the valve block.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1991Date of Patent: November 8, 1994Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Erhard Beck, Albrecht Otto

Patent number: 5362140Abstract: An anti-lock-controlled brake system which, with a minimum number of locking valves between the pressure medium storage reservoir (20) and the wheel brakes (31, 32, 33, 34), is equally suitable for traction slip control with all types of brake circuit allocation. An electromagnetically operated locking valve (27) is provided in the connection line (18) from the pressure medium storage reservoir (20) to the first pressure chamber (8), while the connection through connection line (19) to the second pressure chamber (9) is controlled via the stroke of the floating piston (7) applied by the pressure of the primary brake circuit (I). The pressure build-up required in the primary brake circuit (I) at the beginning of a traction slip control operation is brought about by a pump (26) or the like which either is already provided for brake-slip-dependent braking pressure control or is additionally incorporated in the hydraulic circuitry exclusively for traction slip control.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1992Date of Patent: November 8, 1994Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventor: Jochen Burgdorf

Patent number: 5359854Abstract: An actuating unit for a hydraulic brake system for automotive vehicles which operates by a precisely defined change-over pressure and with lost travel independent of the speed of actuation. The actuating unit includes a pneumatic brake power booster and a master brake cylinder connected downstream of the pneumatic brake power booster. The master brake cylinder contains a primary piston coupled with an annular piston of larger diameter. The annular piston confines a filling chamber which may be connected to the hydraulic pressure chamber. The annular piston is adapted to uncouple from the primary piston when the pressure acting on the annular piston reaches a predetermined amount. Thus, the displacement of the filling volume by the annular piston does not require an entire stroke of the master brake cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1993Date of Patent: November 1, 1994Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Wilfried Wagner, Lothar Schiel

Patent number: 5356210Abstract: An anti-lock hydraulic brake system provides a phase of pressure increase, a phase of pressure decrease as well as a phase in which the pressure is kept constant. To this end, an outlet valve and a selector valve are provided. The selector valve is not connected to the pressure side of the pump as is usual but to the suction side of the pump. This arrangement produces the advantage that the selector valve is disposed in the low-pressure area of the brake system thereby eliminating the occurrence of great pressure surges which result in the emission of noise.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1994Date of Patent: October 18, 1994Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventor: Joachim Maas

Patent number: 5354122Abstract: A seating for an inertia ball (101) of a deceleration-sensitive brake power control is disclosed, featuring a substantially stepped feature (114) located above a bottom area (105) and which feature engages the inertia ball so as to not allow any horizontal free movement of the inertia ball (101). Advantageously, a positive restraint is provided engaging the inertia ball (101) in a backward direction with respect to the driving direction (v). The chamber (120) beneath the inertia ball (101) collects pressure fluid, so that the inertia ball (101) remains dry.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1992Date of Patent: October 11, 1994Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Juergen Schonlau, Holger von Hayn

Patent number: 5350226Abstract: An anti-lock hydraulic brake system is described wherein a throttle valve has a restrictive flow condition which becomes effective in the brake line in the event of brake slip control. Pumps for reapply pressure deliver fluid to the wheel brake via this restriction and regulating the pressure in the wheel brake is performed by control of an outlet valve. The throttle valve is operated hydraulically by various arrangements including the application of pump pressure, or by wheel brake pressure applied upon opening of the outlet valve at the start of an anti-lock control cycle.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1991Date of Patent: September 27, 1994Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Jochen Burgdorf, Hans-Dieter Reinartz, Helmut Steffes, Norbert Ocvirk, Peter Volz, Lutz Weise, Helmut Fennel, Hans Wupper, Hans-Wilhelm Bleckmann, Erhard Beck, Dieter Dinkel, Karlheinz Haupt

Patent number: 5348110Abstract: A device for actuating the control valve (14) of a hydraulic power steering system for automotive vehicles, the rotary motion of a steering wheel being transmitted by means of a steering shaft (2) and the steering torque being transmitted by a relative rotation between the steering shaft (2) and a pinion shaft (4), and wherein the control valve (14) is a linear slide valve. A sleeve (6) embracing the steering shaft (2)and the pinion shaft (4) converts the relative rotation between the two shafts into an axial displacement axially and helically extending coulisse-type guides (7, 8), angularly disposed to one another, within which pins (9, 10), rigidly coupled to the steering shaft (2) and the pinion shaft (4), are received.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1992Date of Patent: September 20, 1994Inventors: Hans-Christof Klein, Manfred Kahrs, Peter Drott, Wilhelm Beer, Joachim Baier, Peter Kraft, Andreas Lang

Patent number: 5344114Abstract: A vehicle seat adjuster includes a pair of spaced upper tracks, each slidably mounted in one of a pair of lower tracks. A seat support arm connected to each upper tracks slidably extends through a slot formed in each lower track. A rod extends between each pair of track assemblies and releasably engages a notch formed in each support arm and one of a plurality of notches formed in the lower track to releasably lock the upper track in a stationary position relative to the lower track. A bearing conforming to the shape of the upper track is interposed between each upper and lower track. Support members are connected to each lower track to anchor each lower track to a vehicle floor. Cooperating resisting elements are formed in each upper and lower track pair and inter-engage under deforming load of the tracks and bearing to resist separation of the upper track from the lower track.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1993Date of Patent: September 6, 1994Assignee: ITT CorporationInventor: Richard W.
