  • Patent number: 5290098
Abstract: A hydraulic anti-locking brake unit is presented in which the brake line is shut off by an isolating valve 20 during a control action. For the reduction of the pressure, the outlet valve 7 is opened, so that the pump 14 delivers hydraulic fluid out of the wheel brake into the high-pressure accumulator 19. For a renewed pressure build-up, the inlet valve 6 is opened, so that hydraulic fluid flow is directed out of the high pressure accumulator 19 to the wheel brake. In order to be able to utilize a high pressure accumulator having a low receiving capacity, various valving arrangements are disclosed to direct excess flow from the pump either to the master cylinder or a low pressure accumulator.

  • Patent number: 5287764
Abstract: Apparatus for actuating a hydraulic power steering system for automotive vehicles, wherein the steering shaft (1 ) is allowed to roll off on the gear rack (3) to a small degree to actuate the steering valve. To enable this rolling motion, the steering shaft (1 ) is supported in a sleeve (9) which, in turn, is supported through needle bearings (10) so as to be rotatable in relation to the steering gear housing (4). To prevent inadvertent steering maneuvers in the event of partial or complete system failure, the needle bearing axis is arranged in parallel to the center line of the steering shaft (1) as well as in one plane with the steering shaft and with the point of force transmission between pinion (2) and gear rack (3). The needle bearing axis is radially outward from the central point of the steering shaft axis than the point of force transmission. A captivated spring (24) is provided to retain the valve slide (19) in its neutral position.

  • Patent number: 5288142
Abstract: A hydraulic brake system is described including a brake slip and/or traction slip control, wherein a pump required herefor is connected in series into the brake conduit through which, in a normal deceleration process, pressure fluid is displaced from the master brake cylinder to the wheel brake. The pump is mounted so that the intake side thereof is in communication with the master brake cylinder and the pressure side thereof is in communication with the wheel brake. Upon commencement of a slip control, the pump drive is turned on. As the master cylinder pressure prevails on the intake side of the pump the pump can very quickly reach the full discharge capacity, thereby enhancing control response of the slip. Moreover, the risk of air being sucked into the brake system is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5284228
Abstract: A floating-caliper spot-type disc brake is disclosed having an arrangement for actively retracting the indirectly actuated external brake shoe to create a clearance with the brake disc. Elastic spring elements (24, 34, 38, 45) engage the external brake shoe (10) and the carrier arms (2, 3) of the brake carrier (1) and which are elastically tensioned by actuation of the brake to allow a slight retraction of the external brake shoe when the elements relax as the brake is released. The spring elements are mounted to allow a frictional grip to be overcome to shift the relative relaxed position of the spring element and external brake shoe as the brake lining wears, so that a constant disc clearance is maintained.

  • Patent number: 5282677
Abstract: A hydraulic anti-lock brake system is disclosed in which the pressure in the wheel brakes can be regulated by means of an inlet valve and an outlet valve in response to the wheel rotational pattern. The wheel brake is supplied with pressure fluid out of the pumps through the inlet valve, and pressurized fluid is taken therefrom through the outlet valve. A differential pressure limiter (18) in front of the inlet valve (15) limits the difference in pressure allowed to build up across the inlet valve by closing a valve until a sufficient pressure build up occurs on the wheel brake. This considerably decreases the noise developed during valve operation. A pressure relief valve (30) insures that an evenly high pressure build-up takes place when the inlet valve (15) is closed by opening when a predetermined pressure difference develops across the inlet valve to allow a higher wheel brake pressure to equalize with the pressure upstream from the inlet valve.

  • Patent number: 5270933
Abstract: A circuit configuration for a brake system with anti-lock control and traction slip control comprising, wheel sensors for generating electric signals representing the wheel rotational behavior and circuits for the cornering identification is provided such that lateral reference speeds (13, 14) are formed by virtue of selection circuits (8, 9) which select leading wheel speed according to specific criteria, and by virtue of a filter means (10, 11) whose time constants (12) are variable. A difference signal (DVS) is formed of the lateral references speeds (SRG.sub.L, SRG.sub.R), the magnitude of which is variable by inverse feedback. This difference signal (DVS) serves to actuate an adaptation circuit (18) as a function of the vehicle reference speed (V.sub.REF). The adaptation circuit influences on the control thresholds of the anti-lock control and traction slip control to adapt the control to the particularities of cornering.

  • Patent number: 5265947
Abstract: The circuit configuration for a brake system having an anti-locking control generates pulse-type brake pressure control signals. For pressure rebuild-up after a pressure decrease, brake pressure is applied first at a steep and subsequently at a flatter gradient, this being achieved by a variable pulse (P1) and by short fixed pulses (P2) succeeding one another at a large interval. Circuits are provided rendering dependent the pulse and pulse break times (T.sub.1, T.sub.2, T.sub.k) determining the pressure build-upon the duration of the pressure build-up (T.sub.1) during the steep-rise build-up in the preceding cycle,on the duration (T.sub.1 +nT.sub.2) of the entire pressure build-up in the preceding cycle, andon the duration (T.sub.o) of the preceding pressure decrease, with the pulse times being so dimensionedthat, at a constant coefficient of friction and at a constant static pressure, the locking limit of the wheel is rereached after a predetermined period of time or after a predetermined pulse number.
