  • Patent number: 5814263
Abstract: Mold for a tire or for an annular tread member of a tire, including a mullicity of sectors moving radially and closed by the axial displacement of a crown coming to act upon the frusto-conical sector seats, and of an annular element, midway between the crown and the sector seats, intended to permit axial retraction of the crown when the internal pressure in the cavity of the mold exceeds a given threshold of pressure.

  • Patent number: 5813482
Abstract: An earth boring system is disclosed for guiding and steering a string of pipe casings to form an underground cased bore. The string of pipe casings are guided by a boring end assembly including a front casing and a steering head connected at an interface gap by a plurality of hinge assemblies each having an actuator and a pair of connector parts. A protective enclosure protects the hinge assemblies from loosened earth from the earthen bore and from the earth being removed from within the pipe casings. The protective enclosure can be formed by an inner pipe and an outer pipe of both the front casing and the steering head, plus a closure ring and a retainer belt at the interface gap. Guidance sensors are provided to determine the location of the string of pipe casings and a computer control center computes steering head axial and angular displacements for guiding the string of pipe casings and controlling the extent of the interface gap.

  • Patent number: 5800102
Abstract: The present invention uses a collar that fits over a nose and a locking cylinder of a chuck of the drilling machine. The collar has a cutout section to accommodate the chuck key including the key gear when it is engaged with the beveled gear of the locking cylinder. The collar has a first bore of a first diameter with is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the nose to provide a tight fit between the collar and the nose of the chuck. A fastener is used to attach the collar to the nose of the chuck. A second bore has a second diameter to fit over at least the beveled gear of the locking cylinder. The second diameter is large enough to provide a clearance so that the locking cylinder is free to rotate within the collar. Turning the chuck key about a key axis opens or closes the jaws of the chuck to grip or release a bit placed along a drill axis of the drilling machine.

  • Patent number: 5788528
Abstract: The high-speed electrical transmission cable connector assembly of this invention includes an electrical connector having a connector backshell with an internal cavity for receiving an electrical insert to interface with an electrical interface device. An adequate amount of space is provided by the internal cavity within the backshell for routing wires of the transmission cable through a neck in an entrance side of the backshell to terminate within the insert. The backshell has a truncated side and a short lateral side for saving space and weight of the electrical connector. A grounding terminal is carried within the internal cavity of the backshell adjacent to the neck on a short neck side for grounding wires within a short distance inside the backshell. An attachment and release mechanism is provided for connecting and disconnecting the interface device to the electrical insert within the backshell.

  • Patent number: 5783003
Abstract: A tire includes incisions in a ply of parallel cords of the tire, made pr to the ply's utilization for making the tire. A cutting device for making the incisions is comprised of a reference holder to impose a known orientation to the parallel cords. It is comprised of a blade of a given width C, the blade being positioned transversely relative to the known orientation, the device including an assembly for causing the cutting of the cords by the blade, and including an assembly for moving the blade transversely relative to the holder, and an assembly for moving the ply longitudinally relative to the holder.

  • Patent number: 5769514
Abstract: A foldable ready to use computer desk is disclosed having a desk top for supporting computer equipment and the like and a pair of spaced foldable side members which include solid panels that form sides of the desk and support the desk above the floor. The solid side panels are carried by hinges having displaced pivot points which allow the side members to fold over one another in an overlapping manner to create a utility space between the side members and the desk top in which utility devices such as a keyboard drawer assembly, power surge strip, and cable tray are nested when the desk is folded. Brace assemblies urge the side members outwardly in an extended position to support the desk top above the floor and urge upper portions of the side members against the hinge brackets to provide a sturdy construction.

  • Patent number: 5769990
Abstract: The tread of the tire of this invention is made using tread bands that have a variable pitch length. That is, the variable pitch length tread bands have a first pitch length on one axial side of the tread band and a second pitch length on the other axial side of the tread band. The transition between the first and second pitch lengths can be a gradual change across the tread band widthwise or a relatively abrupt change. The preferred tire has a tread band where the change in pitch length is widthwise within a groove of the tread. Tread bands of this invention have circumferential edges that mesh with each other such that one variable length tread band can be used with its smaller pitch length on one lateral side of the tread or rotated end to end and used with the smallest pitch length on the other lateral side of the tread of the tire. A method for producing a tread band having a change in the pitch length is also given in this invention.

  • Patent number: 5764729
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a tamper protection device for protecting a telephone operated security alarm system. In particular, it protects a conventional security alarm system using telephone service lines from being disabled by an intruder before the alarm system has a chance to function. Telephone service lines are generally accessible from the exterior of the structure. The alarm system is protected by providing an service enclosure having a strong box and a dual conduit assembly to enclose the telephone service box and telephone service lines. The essential conduit assembly has inner and outer slotted concentric conduits to fully protect the service lines. The protection device includes sensors and switches to inform the security monitor before an intruder can disable the alarm system. A vibration sensor is activated when movements of the strong box and conduit occur and a signal is generated to announce the intruder.

  • Patent number: 5759314
Abstract: A bias tire includes a reinforcement member disposed between a first carcass and an additional carcass in the crown region of the tire for restricting the circumferential growth of the tire. The reinforcement member includes a plurality of cords oriented at zero degrees. The total circumferential strength of the reinforcement member is about 20 to 250% of the circumferential strength of the carcass plies. The reinforcement member, first carcass, and additional carcass are formed on a tire building drum as a green tire component in a method of making the tire.
