  • Patent number: 4596971
Abstract: A magnetic circuit device suitable for use in a magnetic catch having a switching function, a slide switch or a sensor for detecting locations of a movable member has been found. The magnetic circuit device comprises a main permanent magnet (1) having a pair of magnetic poles (N, S) on opposite faces, a pair of yoke pieces (2) lying on the faces, a movable piece (4) made of magnetic material capable of engaging with first ends of the yoke pieces (2), and a sub-permanent magnet (6) movably disposed near second ends of the yoke pieces (2) opposite to the first edges so that when the movable piece (4) is attracted to the first ends, the sub-permanent magnet (6) is attracted to the second ends, and when the movable piece (4) is made break away from the first ends, the sub-permanent magnet (6) breaks away from the second ends. Movement of the sub-magnet (6) can be utilized to control electrical connection of contacts (8A, 8B) of a switching mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4576178
Abstract: A system is disclosed that includes an audio signal generator to provide a distinguishable audible output that varies in accordance with a monitored input. The audio signal generator varies a parameter of the audible output, such as frequency or amplitude, in n discrete steps corresponding to a range of variation in value of the monitored input. A plurality of different inputs may be monitored, and an audio signal generated therefrom having a plurality of different parameters, each of which corresponds to an individual one of the monitored inputs. The monitored inputs may be heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and body temperature. The audio signal produced may be composed of a series of recurring pulses, the parameters of which corresponding to the different monitored inputs are amplitude of each pulse, time duration of each pulse, time duration between the onset of successive pulses, and the frequency of the signal that defines each pulse.

  • Patent number: 4568845
Abstract: A magnetic drive unit includes a magnetic circuit composed of a yoke and a magnet which define a magnetic gap therebetween, and a voice coil movably disposed in the magnetic gap for moving a driven member, the voice coil comprising turns formed by helically cutting a tubular conductive body, the turns being spaced at pitches which are larger within the magnetic gap and become progressively smaller in directions away from the magnetic gap. The turns are of a rectangular cross section and insulated by a mass of resin coated on their surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4566790
Abstract: An improved cuvette array for a centrifugal analyzer is disclosed. The array is conventionally formed from upper and lower discs of flexible thermoplastic material, in which the lower disc is formed with a plurality of compartments circumferentially spaced about a first central hub, and the upper disc is bonded to the outer periphery of the lower disc and closes an outer peripheral portion of the compartments. The array is improved by forming the upper disc with a central portion that includes a second central hub positioned above the first central hub, together with an intermediate web that bridges the second central hub to the outer peripheral portion of the upper disc so as to close off the inner peripheral portion of the compartments. The intermediate web portion may be joined to the outer peripheral portion of the upper disc by a tearible score line to permit the central portion of the upper disc to be entirely removed.

  • Patent number: 4561693
Abstract: Tilt control for a back support and height control for the back support and a seat for a chair or the like are provided by a gas cylinder actuator having a cam surface and pivotally mounted so that the cam surface activates the gas cylinder. A blocker plate is pivotally mounted for movement between one position in which it prevents tilting of the back support and another position in which tilting is permitted. The actuator and blocker plate are coupled together so that pivotal movement of one is accompanied by pivotal movement of the other.

  • Patent number: 4549158
Abstract: An inductance element of the type that includes a coil bobbin having flanges at the ends thereof, a pair of pot cores engaging the bobbin, and a fastening member for fastening together the pot cores and bobbin. At least one of the bobbin flanges includes a joining part that extends outwardly from the bobbin flange and engages both the adjacent one of the pot cores and the fastening member to prevent relative rotation of the bobbin and adjacent pot core and fastening member. One of the bobbin flanges may include a stepped part having pins extending therefrom for making electrical connection to the inductance element. The stepped part is spaced from the bobbin flange, and connection wires may extend within the space.

  • Patent number: 4540931
Abstract: A system for automatically controlling output voltage to correct for varying input voltage utilizes a transformer having a movable core structure. The output voltage from the transformer is sensed and made to conform to a predetermined standard by moving the movable core structure, which is then locked in position after its adjustment. Voltage changes are step-free, and linear voltage control with respect to time is achieved through non-linear movement of the core structure over a range of variation of the output voltage.

  • Patent number: 4536996
Abstract: A building structure comprises an outer shell of adjustable dimensions to define a substantially enclosed space. A section at least of the outer shell has a rigid lower frame including structural beams permanently mounted in foundations and defining a lower shell portion. A rigid upper frame defines an upper shell portion and includes structural beams arranged slidably to engage the structural beams of the lower frame. Each of the beams is formed with a longitudinal side flange and is arranged in slidably engagement pairs. Guide means are provided for fitting around the edges of adjacent side flanges of the beams for holding the beams in sliding engagement. Bolts or clamps are provided for fixing the upper portion relative to the lower portion in the raised position at least.

  • Patent number: 4536833
Abstract: A lighting fixture utilizing a spatially fixed light source and a multi-layered hologram as a lens element. The hologram receives light from the source and directs it to a task area. The layers of the lens element are responsive to light of one or more wavelengths of interest and varying angles of incident radiation so as to diffract light from the source toward the task area.
