  • Patent number: 4153155
Abstract: A fluid collector for collecting fluid from a drain opening such as a motor vehicle crankcase or engine oil pan and a multipackage of the fluid collector and plurality of replacement-fluid containers. The fluid collector in a preferred embodiment comprises a sealed container carrying a folded bag therein. In a certain open condition of the container the bag is capable of receiving a substantial quantity of drain fluid and the container holds the open end of the bag as a funnel for receiving fluid from a drain opening. The container is resealable for transport and disposal of the bag and container with the drained fluid therein. In a preferred embodiment, the container is of the same size as replacement-fluid containers which are to be used to replace the drained fluid. Thus, for example, that embodiment contemplates standard quart oil cans such as used to place oil in motor vehicle engines.

  • Patent number: 4146914
Abstract: An electrical capacitor is formed utilizing a thin dielectric layer which is metallized on both sides to provide electrode areas. The capacitor is formed by pleating, or folding, the dielectric layer along its longitudinal dimension an odd number of times. The pleats are not creased but are allowed to form smoothly curved edges in which the radius of such bend is at least equal to the thickness of the film. In addition the edges of the pleats are progressively staggered so that the centers of the bend of one pleat edge is removed a distance of at least four film thicknesses from its neighboring centers. This configuration prevents the end of the capacitor from forming a "bar-bell" shape and in addition minimizes mechanical damage to the film and alteration of the electric field.

  • Patent number: 4140870
Abstract: An improved fastener assembly system for grounding multiconductor, shielded cables. The assembly includes a saddle-shaped stud device and a preassembled nut and clamping washer. The clamping washer including a conical spring section and downwardly extending penetrating teeth to pierce the outer insulative sheath of the cable bringing the teeth into conductive contact with the metallic shield. The penetration of the teeth through the outer layer of elastomeric material eliminates the cold flow relaxation problems which could contribute to an ineffective grounding system.

  • Patent number: 4139971
Abstract: A molding clip assemblage is disclosed which comprises a base plate fastened such as with a double-faced adhesive tape to the peripheral edge of a window frame for enclosing a glass windshield and clips attached at proper intervals to the frontal side of said base plate. A given molding, when forced in between the base plate adhering to the peripheral edge and the clips secured to said base plate, can be safely mounted in position without inflicting any damage at all upon the peripheral edge. The molding thus secured serves to provide the windshield with a seal perfectly impervious to rainwater and dust from the surroundings.

  • Patent number: 4138754
Abstract: The method includes positioning a plurality of rotary milling saw stations about a path of travel for successsive screw blanks. Two longitudinally overlapping fluting cuts are made on each side of each blank to configure a drilling point. The blanks are rotated about their axis a predetermined amount, during travel between work stations, to expose the appropriate peripheral surface of the blank to the appropriate work station. The method and apparatus described in the invention is capable of producing a drill screw with relatively long flutes behind the cutting edges while not appreciably weakening the point structure. The turret carrying the blanks is intermittently indexed in timed relationship with the activation of the milling saw, the work stations and means to clamp the blanks at the work stations.

  • Patent number: 4137512
Abstract: A contactless magnetic switch is provided by utilizing at least one pair of hollow elongated tubular magnetic sensing elements which are each threaded with at least one sense wire and a movable permanent magnet which is positioned adjacent and over the sensing elements. The magnet has two straight edges which in a nominal zero position of the switch extend along the longitudinal axes of the sensing elements, preferably for a distance which is slightly longer than their lengths. The magnet is carried in a revolvable or otherwise movable carrier. If the carrier is revolvable, the magnet may be shaped as part of a circular disc and the two tubes may have their longitudinal axes disposed at an angle relative to each other so that when the permanent magnet is rotated in one direction from the initial zero position, one of the sensing elements will lie completely under the magnet while the other will be removed from the magnet and not affected by it.

  • Patent number: 4128857
Abstract: An electrical capacitor is formed utilizing a thin dielectric layer which is metallized on both sides to provide electrode areas. An unmetallized margin area is provided on one side of the dielectric layer along one longitudinal edge of the dielectric layer and an unmetallized margin area is provided on the other side of the dielectric area along the opposite longitudinal edge dimension of the dielectric layer. The capacitor is formed by pleating, or folding, the dielectric layer along its longitudinal dimension an even number of times so that the unmetallized margin areas extend outwardly beyond the pleats adjacent the same longitudinal edge. The dielectric layer may next be wound to form a wound capacitor segment and then a metallic spray may be directed against the ends of the wound capacitor segment so that leads may be attached to complete the capacitor.
