  • Patent number: 4104492
Abstract: A combined gravity operated light socket and switch including a base, fastening means extending from one side thereof and a dielectric housing extending from the other side, the housing being divided into two adjacent chambers. The first chamber is open-ended forming a light socket and the second chamber houses a switching mechanism. The switch includes a headed co-axial shaft extending between the chambers with the head acting as a contact in the base of the socket and the opposite end carrying a flat centrally flanged teeter-totter element supporting a rolling ball and arranged for predetermined angular movement upon angular shifting of the housing. The angular movement of the flat element is limited by stop means, one of which is a contact, thereby producing an on-off status depending on the angular placement of the unit.

  • Patent number: 4103854
Abstract: A one-piece plastic fastener for supporting secondary members relative to a thin panel in a shouldered, non-circular aperture. The fastener provides a wide distribution of stress loading by a large hook-like prong which is rotated into contact with the backside of the panel by telescoping it through the aperture until the head covers the aperture. A resilient non-loadbearing arm extends from the prong in a curved or angular relationship for engagement with two adjacent edges of the non-circular aperture to permanently prevent unintentional retrograde motion of the fastener. The fastener is non-removeable due to the locking of the notch in the arm with the side edge of the non-circular aperture.

  • Patent number: 4099616
Abstract: A package of and a bag for two bottles. The bag is made from an unsupported and unreinforced thin plastic material that is substantially incapable of safely supporting the weight load of the bottles from a single thickness area of the bag material. In the package the bag has two substantially stretched and tensioned areas. One of the areas is a band about the body portion of the bottles. The other area is a band that includes gathered and secured material, part of which is a handle. The two stretched and tensioned band areas of the bag cooperate together and with the bottles to firmly hold the bottles together and enable the weight load of the bottles to be safely and securely carried from the handle.

  • Patent number: 4099757
Abstract: The invention concerns a child-proof door catch device which requires a sequence of unconnected manipulations to operate the mechanism opening a door. The mechanism includes a housing and operating and latching elements, the operating and latching elements being normally held apart by a biasing means. When the correct sequence of manipulations is performed on the operating element, the latching element is caused to disengage from a striker plate to allow the door to be opened.

  • Patent number: 4099176
Abstract: A keyboard switch employing a saturable magnetic core and a pair of permanent magnets attached to a key stem is disclosed. When the key is not depressed the saturable magnetic core is saturated by the adjacent magnets, and when the key is depressed the core becomes unsaturated. The magnetic core and the associated drive and sense wires are secured in a plastic support assembly. The plastic housing of the switch and the support assembly are constructed so that the support assembly may be secured in place in the plastic housing and may also be removed from the housing when connection to a printed circuit board is to be made.

  • Patent number: 4095468
Abstract: A temperature sensing device which utilizes a pair of inductively wound magnetic cores is disclosed. The cores are constructed so that the permeability of one core changes with temperature at a rate which is different from the rate that the permeability of the other core changes, with respect to temperature. A plot of inductance vs. temperature, thus varies so that the curves for the two cores intersect at the temperature which is to be sensed. The cores are connected together in a four-arm inductance bridge network and a null detector is coupled to the bridge network to provide an electrical output signal.

  • Patent number: 4091762
Abstract: An audible vibratory biased reed assembly having the properties of being activated or commencing vibration upon being subjected to a predetermined energy level. This assembly utilizes a straight, flat, elongated, closed or clapping reed, to produce a clatter or buzzing sound, with the reed being biased through application of a bias force to one edge to distort its flatness adjacent its free extremity. The bias force is applied by an angular transverse bridge which substantially triples the frequency of the mechanical clatter.

  • Patent number: 4089099
Abstract: An automatic tool for rapidly setting rivets or like fasteners of the expansion type supplied in strip form. It comprises a magazine for receiving a strip of rivets in which the rivets can advance stepwise so that the leading rivet faces the outlet orifice. A breech movable longitudinally along the axis of the outlet orifice and provided with a barrel fitting over the rivet mandrel and over the rivet head so that the rivet is fetched into a setting position, well clear of the magazine, in order to enable same to be set visually. A striker sliding along the axis of the breech is provided with a pin which strikes the mandrel of the rivet through the barrel and drives it into the body of the rivet and causes the rivet to be secured in the assembly holes. A double-acting detent and trigger actuating mechanism is so devised that an initial phase of operation of the detent causes the breech to advance while a second phase of operation of the detent causes the striker to act.

  • Patent number: 4089037
Abstract: Improved electrical capacitors are formed utilizing a thin dielectric layer which is metallized with an aluminum layer and a protective layer of metal, such as lead, tin or zinc, which does not readily oxidize in air is deposited on the aluminum layer. Capacitors of this type are formed by pleating, or folding, the dielectric layer so that one portion of an electrode is brought into contact with or adjacent to another portion of the same or of the opposite electrode. The protective layer prevents conversion of the aluminum layer between the adjacent electrode areas to insulating aluminum oxide, which could otherwise occur during the application of a high voltage pulse during testing or use of the capacitor.
