  • Patent number: 6918359
Abstract: A portable, manually-guided implement, such as a cut-off machine, is provided and has an internal combustion engine, a cylinder of which has a combustion chamber with an exhaust gas outlet. The combustion chamber is delimited by a piston that, via a connecting rod, drives a crankshaft rotatably mounted in a crankcase. Disposed on both sides of a central plane of the cylinder are transfer channels that respectively connect the crankcase with the combustion chamber. The first end of a transfer channel is connected via an inlet window with the combustion chamber, while the second end of the transfer channel is open toward the crankcase. The transfer channels are connected with an air duct that, via a control member, supplies essentially fuel-free combustion air from an air filter. A duct section of the air duct is formed in a housing wall disposed between the carburetor and the engine cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6919538
Abstract: To increase the temperature homogeneity on the surface of a substrate that is to be thermally treated, a method for thermally treating substrates is provided, according to which the substrate is heated by several separately controllable heating elements. A desired-value profile is predefined for each of said heating elements. The method comprises the following steps: locally-analysed measurement of the temperature of the surface of the substrate that faces away from the heating elements, during the thermal treatment; determination of the temperature inhomogeneities occurring on the substrate surface; definition of new desired-value profiles based on said temperature inhomogeneities; and preparation of the new desired-value profiles for subsequent treatments.

  • Patent number: 6919050
Abstract: A method and arrangement for supplying a waste heat exchanger with exhaust gas from a gas turbine are provided. The exhaust gas is guided through a diverter having a pivotable butterfly valve. When the valve is opened for initial entry of gas into the exchanger, the gas flows about the free edge of the valve. At least during initial entry of gas into the exchanger, the stream of gas is at least partially deflected downstream of the butterfly valve. This deflection is preferably eliminated after the initial entry of gas into the exchanger.

  • Patent number: 6913250
Abstract: A carburetor arrangement for an internal combustion engine in a manually guided implement, such as a power chainsaw, a cut-off machine, etc. is provided. A regulating chamber delimited by a regulating diaphragm is provided. Upon deflection of the diaphragm due to underpressure in the regulating chamber, the latter is connected with a fuel tank. Via at least one nozzle, the regulating chamber opens into an air channel that supplies fuel/air mixture to the engine. The carburetor arrangement includes a scavenging pump that is disposed in a return line from the regulating chamber to the fuel tank, and in which is formed a pump chamber. The scavenging pump serves to completely fill the regulating chamber with fuel before start-up of the engine. To prevent the fuel/air mixture from becoming too lean after start-up, especially upon opening of the choke valve, a supply line is provided from the pump chamber into the air channel and supplies additional fuel to the air channel during the run-up phase.

  • Patent number: 6906468
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel ballast device for pre-heating, starting and operating at least one UV emitter, constructed in the form of a gas discharge lamp with two heating coils lying opposite each other in relation to a gas discharge path, whereby four electrical connections are provided in total for each of such gas discharge paths, namely two for each heating coil. According to the invention, switching means are provided for a parallel switching of both of said connectors of a heating coil, dependent upon operating conditions. A capacitive loading of the ballast device is thus avoided by means of the otherwise open connector line for the heating coil and the current feed to the coils is evenly distributed.
