Abstract: A cascade power system and a method are disclosed for using a high temperature flue gas stream to directly or indirectly vaporize a lean and rich stream derived from an incoming, multi-component, working fluid stream, extract energy from these streams, condensing a spent stream and repeating the vaporization, extraction and condensation cycle.
Abstract: An electrically powered launcher is disclosed that can accelerate small payloads to orbital velocities. The invention uses a novel geometry to overcome limitations of other design, and allows full exploitation of existing superconducting materials.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed to increase the efficient of internal combustion engines where the system and method converts a portion of thermal energy produced in the combustion process to a usable form of energy. If the engines are used in power generation, then the system and method increases the power output of the engine significantly. If the engines are used in traditional mechanical operations such as ships, then the system and method operates to increase mechanical power output or to increase co-produced electrical energy output.
Abstract: Paintball or non-lethal gun or marker apparatuses are disclosed to prevent projectiles from being inadvertently discharged from a paintball or other non-lethal gun or markers.
Abstract: A paintball hopper refill apparatus or loading apparatus is disclosed, which includes a body, an interior, a closed end, an openable end and an actuator designed to open the openable end of the apparatus. A method for filling a hopper using the loading apparatus of this invention is also disclosed.
Abstract: A method for analysis of blood components or parameters is disclosed where a probe having an excitation outlet and a response inlet is placed in proximity to or in contact with a tissue of an underside of a patient's tongue over a big vein in the tongue so that an excitation signal exits the outlet, produces a response which enters the inlet for detection and analysis.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for capturing optical micro detectors for improved surgical handling during implantation into an eye comprising the steps of providing an optically active thin film heterostructure on a soluble substrate; forming an array comprising individual optical microdetectors from the optically active thin film heterostructure; attaching the optical microdetector array onto a biodegradable polymer carrier membrane; and separating the optical microdetector array attached to the biodegradable polymer carrier membrane from the soluble substrate thereby capturing the optical microdetectors in the bio-polymer carrier membrane for improved handling of the optical micro-detectors during transfer and implantation into the eye.

Abstract: An improved combustion method and corresponding apparatus is disclosed, where the method includes oxidizing a fuel in a combustion chamber with an oxidizing stream including an air stream and a first recycled flue gas stream and mixing a produced hot flue gas stream with a second recycled flue gas stream to form reduced temperature flue gas stream which can be used directly in a power generator or to heat a reactor. The method and apparatus allow flow rates of the streams to be adjusted so that temperatures in the combustion chamber and in the heat transfer unit or units of the power generator or reactor can be kept below temperature that would thermally damage the combustion chamber, heat transfer unit or units or the reactors.

Treated solid materials are also disclosed. The methods and treated materials are ideally suited for oil field applications.

Abstract: The present invention describes a pre-fabricated chip mount and a method for making the pre-fabricated mount. The mount includes a mount body and a protective ring attached to the body by a plurality of tabs. The mount also includes a plurality of inner leads in electrical communication with the wires of at least one leadframe and a receiving area for an integrated circuit chip. The present invention also describes chips mounted on the pre-fabricated mount and methods for mounting, wire-bonding and encapsulating the chip in the mount. The mounts of the present invention can also be adapted to accommodate multiple chips and multi-level bonding schemes to the chips.
Abstract: A particulate bone of defined sizes which has a unique property of direct bone osteoinduction without going through endochondral ossification stage is disclosed. The bone is not subjected to chemical extraction or decalcification. This allows for the retention of all physiologically active components of native bone. The invention hinges on the newly discovered ability of bone particles of defined sizes to exert osteoinduction by a pathway superior to and distinct from demineralized bone matrix and similar preparations.
