  • Patent number: 4478449
Abstract: Fireplace tongs comprising a pair of levers connected to one another between their respective ends by means of a first pivot in the manner of scissors, this first pivot defining on one side thereof operating arms and on the other side thereof extensions of the operating arms. One of the extensions constitutes a first jaw for the tongs while a second jaw, similar to the first jaw, is pivotally mounted at one of its ends to the end of the other extension away from the first pivot. A connecting link is provided of which the ends are pivotally mounted on the jaws respectively on one side and on the other side of the first and of the second pivot and adjacent thereto, whereby closing in of the arms causes tightening of the jaws and, alternatively, spreading apart of the operating arms causes loosening of the jaws.

  • Patent number: 4474502
Abstract: Water sporting boat of the pedal type comprising a surfboard having a hollow keel at the stern into which is provided a mechanical transmission connected to one end of a rotary shaft, a propeller being mounted at the other end of the shaft, outside the hollow keel. Pedal power is transferred to the mechanical transmission by a chain drive also connected to a pedalling rack fixed on the surface of the surfboard. A steering rack, provided forwardly of the pedalling rack, is connected to a rudder, at the stern of the surfboard, by a cable transmission. The steering rack includes a handle bar and the cable transmission is connected to the rudder so that the latter responds to the same steering direction as that applied by the handle bar.

  • Patent number: 4472136
Abstract: Four-stage flame retention head assembly for use in the air pipe of a fuel burner having a fuel nozzle mounted coaxially within the air pipe. This assembly comprises an outwardly diverging flame retention head mounted in the air pipe in front of the fuel nozzle. This head successively defines, starting from its smaller end, an air-and-fuel mixture chamber; a first inwardly open expansion chamber; a throttle section and an outwardly convex section defining a second expansion chamber. A primary air inlet annular plate is mounted transversely at the inlet end of the head and has a central opening circumscribed by a continuous annulus. The latter has a series of air inlet apertures and loovers over the apertures, the latter and the loovers causing swirling of the air as it enters into the mixing chamber. The first and second expansion chambers are provided with circumferentially spaced air apertures to pass air into the retention head to sustain combustion therein as well as to cool the head.

  • Patent number: 4459116
Abstract: A screw-propelled, water saddle for ride on a water surface. This water saddle is supported by two parallel floats, properly spaced apart and joined by at least one emerging cross-member. A central bar or tubing is fixed parallel to the floats at the middle of the cross-members. The saddle is mounted on the rear part of the central bar approximately at the center of the area defined by the floats while the front end of the same receives a removable propelling and steering device comprising a screw-propeller driven by a pair of pedals and a handle-bar for steering the propeller in a given direction. The rider takes place on the saddle, puts his feet on the pedals and activates the handle-bar to place the propeller in the desired direction. This screw-propelled water saddle is particularly interesting because of its simplicity, lightness, stability, speed and manageability.

  • Patent number: 4445619
Abstract: An improved pedal bin of the type comprising a removable basket eccentrically suspended about an axis inside a rigid, upwardly opened box provided with a lid pivotably mounted on one upper flange of said box, in parallel relationship with respect to the suspension axis of the basket and wherein opening of lid is achieved by action of a pedal against the bottom of the basket, to swing it around its suspension axis, and thus move upwardly the end of the basket diagonally opposed to the pedal so as to tilt up the lid. In accordance with the invention the pedal forms an integral part of the basket, and the box is provided with an opening giving free access to the pedal from the outside of the box. The basket is suspended about two pivots located in its forward upper part, each pivot engaging a hinge integral to the box. Tilting up of the lid is obtained through a finger integral to the basket.

  • Patent number: 4433871
Abstract: Machine including a powered truck-like vehicle having a support base at the rear end and an apparatus for cutting a drive-in passage across a concrete curbstone, a sidewalk or the like. The apparatus is mounted on the base and essentially comprises two spaced parallel booms mounted at one end on the base and an elongated bridge structure extending between and perpendicularly to the booms, being connected to them and provided with a drive so that it can be displaced along the booms with respect to the support base of the vehicle. The booms and bridge structure are pivoted from an inoperative position where the bridge structure is above the support base to an operative position where the booms and bridge structure are swung outwardly of the support base in a position for cutting the curbstone, sidewalk or the like.

  • Patent number: 4372614
Abstract: A pivoted wedge for blocking up the dumping platform of a truck in dumping position. The wedge comprises a main body in which are rotatably mounted a pair of driven rollers designed for riding on the frame of the truck and allowing translation of the body along the frame, and a driving roller designed for riding on the frame of the dumping platform. The driving roller which forms part of the wedge, positively engages the driven rollers and rotates them in the opposite direction towards the junction between the frame of the truck and the frame of the platform when the dumping platform is moving down, thus causing movement of the wedge towards said junction and self-blocking of the platform in dumping position. This wedge which automatically blocks up to the platform of a truck in dumping position in the case of failure of the hydraulic mechanism used for rising up the platform, can advantageously be used as safety device by a mechanic who has to work under the platform of a dumping truck.

  • Patent number: 4360343
Abstract: A method for the oral implantation of a dental prosthesis inside a tooth socket. This method comprises two basic steps, namely (a) creation of an artificial socket inside the maxillary bone and (b) implantation of a rigid support in the so-created socket to fix the prosthesis tooth. The first step is carried out by introducing a thin, sharp cutting tool having two cutting edges, in a predetermined direction in the depth of the bone using a thin probe as a guide for the blade, and subsequently opening the lateral walls of the hole formed by the cutting tool with a punch-shaped tool to create the artificial socket. The second step is carrying out by inserting inside the so created socket a scissors-like element comprising a pair of sharp blades each having a toothed edge, and subsequently separating these blades by introducing a thin pin between each other in such a manner that the teeth extending from the edges of the blades penetrate inside the walls or the artificial socket.
