  • Patent number: 5906195
Abstract: A ventilation system having a hood located above cooking equipment which generates heat and fumes due to cooking. The hood has an inclined air filter at the back of the hood which rests on a flange extending along the length of the hood at the top thereof and the bottom of the inclined air filter rests on a grease collector extending along the length of the hood. The grease collector is located at a given distance downwardly from the top of the hood. The back of the inclined air filter defines an exhaust area, and the hood also includes an exhaust duct being in direct communication with the exhaust area and a fan for drawing the contaminated air out of the exhaust area. The hood also has a fresh air output that is connected to a fresh air duct including a fan and located along the length of the hood at the front thereof, this fresh air output being designed to inject fresh air into the hood.

  • Patent number: 5893248
Abstract: The insulating panel for a building structure has a rigid insulating body and two opposed outer surfaces. It is characterized in that it comprises a plurality of framing members made of a high strength material embedded in the body, each framing member being provided with anchor means for securely holding it in the body and being adapted for receiving and holding at least one fastener and thereby securing the panel to the building structure. An insulating panel according to the present invention, on one hand allows a very large range of use for such a panel, and on the other hand, allows a very rapid installation at a low cost. Such an insulating panel may be used for insulating a wall as well as a ceiling or a roof or a floor.

  • Patent number: 5870838
Abstract: A retractable spike system for providing traction when desired under the entire surface of a footwear sole and heel. Two or more retractable spike assemblies are inserted into cavities in the sole and heel of the footwear. The spikes on each assembly can be engaged by a cam or wedge pressing on a carrier plate. All the assemblies are connected together by a rigid coil attached to the cams or a shaft to which the wedges are fixed, in such a manner that a single mechanism can simultaneously retract or extend all the spikes on all assemblies.

  • Patent number: 5860543
Abstract: The closure cap for sealing a container has an inner skirt shaped and sized to fit externally and to be secured onto the neck of the container. The cap also has an outer skirt projecting from the inner skirt. This outer skirt extends over the inner skirt at a given distance from same, thereby defining a gap there between. The outer skirt is made of a material that is resiliently flexible and can be deformed when an external pressure is applied onto its external surface. The cap further has a foldable cover shaped and sized to close the neck of the container. This cover has a peripheral edge attached to the outer skirt by a hinge. A snap having one part integral to the upper portion of the other skirt and another part integral to the cover is provided for releasably locking the cover in a closed position when it is folded down over the neck of the container.

  • Patent number: 5860326
Abstract: The combined speed shifter and brake handle assembly is for a multispeed bicycle. The assembly comprises a handlebar bracket to secure the assembly on a bicycle handlebar, a rotative speed shifter mechanism for pulling and releasing a speed control cable, and a brake bracket projecting from the handlebar bracket, to pivotally receive an end of a brake lever at a predetermined distance from the bicycle handlebar. The speed shifter mechanism has a shifter lever with an annular member rotatably mounted on a rim member fixed to the handlebar bracket, for rotation about the bicycle handlebar, and held in place thereon by a cap member. Friction elements provide a predetermined frictional contact that opposes against rotation of the annular member relative to the cap member and the rim. The speed control cable is guided toward the speed shifter lever, to which it is fastened.

  • Patent number: 5840257
Abstract: A device for use with an oil lamp to allow the diffusion of the scent of a perfume. The device has a circular vessel and a central tubular element extending longitudinally through the center of the vessel. A wick is inserted through the central tubular element. The vessel is closed at the bottom and open at the top, defining a perfume-holding area. In a first and second embodiment, the device also has an outwardly projecting lip along the circumference of the vessel at the top thereof. In a third embodiment, the vessel has a diameter that is greater than the diameter of the opening of the oil lamp, and is provided with a resilient member at the bottom of the central tubular element. In use, a user pours a given amount of perfume in the perfume-holding area. The device is then placed on the lip of the oil lamp and over the opening and the wick is lit. The heat generated by the flame of the wick heats the device, which in turns heats the perfume, thereby releasing a pleasing smell.

  • Patent number: 5829576
Abstract: A device for carrying electronic components of various sizes and lengths from a loading area to an unloading area. The device has an endless loop conveyor having a continuously moving element extending longitudinally between the loading area and the unloading area. It also has a plurality of gripping element for gripping the electronic components, which are opened at the loading and unloading areas over a predetermined distance for enabling engagement of at least one electronic component and gripping thereof at the loading area, and disengagement of the electronic component and release thereof at the unloading area. The gripping elements are attached to the continuously moving element and have a pair of elongated legs pivotably connected together in a plane transversal to the continuous moving element and having opposite lower ends. A spring is operatively associated with the legs for urging the lower ends of the legs together.

  • Patent number: 5815049
Abstract: A dual switch for coupling a waveguide microwave switch to a coaxial microwave switch. The waveguide microwave switch has a waveguide hollow member and a waveguide rotating section rotatably mounted about a rotational axis within the waveguide hollow member at one end. The coaxial microwave switch has a coaxial hollow member adjacent to the one end of the waveguide hollow member and a coaxial rotating section rotatably mounted within the coaxial hollow member about an axis coaxial with the rotational axis. The waveguide microwave switch is coupled to the coaxial microwave switch by at least one set of cooperating magnets fastened at a given radial distance from the rotational axis to the waveguide rotating section and the coaxial rotating section respectively, such that any rotation of the waveguide rotating section about the rotational axis will be followed by a corresponding rotation about the rotational axis of the coaxial rotating section.
