  • Patent number: 4890801
Abstract: A sod laying machine having front and rear sections articulated together. A boom on the front section has arms extending forwardly, with gripper arms extending downwardly from the boom to grip a roll of sod. A control roller connected to the boom arms drives the sod roll to control its speed of unwinding. The sod roll has its grass side facing outwardly and its top unwinds rearwardly so an operator in a seat at the front of the machine, between the boom arms, has an unobstructed view of the critical area of sod extending in the air from the roll to the ground, to reduce the likelihood of buckles and tears therein. The machine passes over the sod after it is laid, to roll the sod.

  • Patent number: 4882204
Abstract: The absorbency of a disposable diaper is increased by spraying the diaper with an aerosol spray containing absorbent powder, e.g. talcum, cornstarch or both. The powder particles are so fine (20-40 micron diameter) that the spray force drives many of them into the subsurface layers of the diaper, thus increasing the absorbency of the diaper. At the same time, some powder remains on the diaper surface to help protect the skin of the wearer in the absence of urine.

  • Patent number: 4872285
Abstract: This invention relates to a quarter point return mechanism for a manually driven revolving door. Revolving door leaves extending outwardly from a shaft are partially enclosed between opposed curved sidewalls. The return mechanism has a number of elements including an actuator, a rack arranged to be linearedly displaced by the actuator, and a pinion engaging the rack and being rotatable in opposite directions. The pinion is rotatably connected to the central shaft of the door. When the pinion is rotated in one direction, rotation is transmitted to the shaft. When the pinion is rotated in the opposite direction, the rotation is not transmitted to the shaft. Also included is a circumferential displacement sensor which operates the actuator when the outer ends of the door leaves are in a position circumferentially displaced from the sidewalls. The return mechanism returns the door leaves to a rest position in which the door leaves are in contact with the curved sidewalls.

  • Patent number: 4873412
Abstract: An automatic feed apparatus is provided for a fusion welding machine, in which metal components are welded together. The apparatus has an electrode holder for holding a pin and having a clamping lever for clamping the pin to an electrode. A feeding device feeds pins to the electrode holder. A feed control unit controls the feeding device so that pins are sent individually to the electrode holder. The electrode holder in turn is controlled by a holder control unit. The holder control unit causes the clamping lever to open to receive a pin, and optionally can also control the position at which the pin is clamped. The feed control unit and holder control unit are synchronized together. Thus, the feeding device is only actuated to send a pin to the electrode holder, when the holder control unit has opened the clamping lever.
