Abstract: A low drift spray apparatus for controllably continuously pivoting the nozzle during discharge of spray composition whereby the emitting spray pattern describes the frustum of a cone as the nozzle pivots includes a flexible tubular segment of the liquid supply line adjacent to the nozzle; a pivotal support adjacent the nozzle for pivotally supporting an end of the flexible tubular segment about a fixed point; a fixed support at the other end of the segment, the segment being axially compressed to cause lateral displacement of a portion thereof; and a reciprocating subassembly adapted to continuously move the laterally displaced portion in a circular path substantially about an axis consisting of a line between the ends of the segment.
Abstract: Tetrachloropyridine, more specifically 2,3,5,6-tetrachloropyridine, can be efficiently prepared by reacting pentachloropyridine in water with an oxidizable metal such as zinc, in the absence of an added mineral or organic hydrogen donating acid.
Abstract: Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen; alkyl of 1 to 8 carbons; alkylthiomethyl, alkylsulfinylmethyl or alkylsulfonylmethyl wherein alkyl contains 1 to 4 carbons; phenyl; phenylthio; alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl or alkylsulfonyl wherein alkyl contains 1 to 4 carbons; or alkylthioethylthio wherein alkyl contains 1 to 2 carbons;R' is hydrogen, methyl or alkylthio of 1 to 2 carbons;R" is hydrogen or methyl;X is oxygen or sulfur;R'" is alkyl of 1 to 2 carbons; andR"" is --OR"' or --S-alkyl of 1 to 4 carbons, are highly useful insecticides which are particularly valuable when applied to the soil, but are also useful applied to foliage of crops or trees. Especially good control is obtained of corn rootworm, codling moth, thrips, leafhoppers, and nematodes. The compounds are conveniently applied in the form of a composition containing a pesticidal carrier such as an inert solvent or a finely divided inert solid in which case the composition is preferably granulated.

Abstract: Novel substituted oxirane compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is halogen or --CF.sub.3 ; n is an integer from 0 to 5; and X.sub.1, X.sub.2, X.sub.3, X.sub.4 and X.sub.5 are halogen, and are useful as herbicidal compounds.
Abstract: Novel compounds used as intermediates for making herbicides are disclosed. The novel compounds include acid chlorides of 2-(4-((3-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl)oxy)phenoxy)propanoic acid and 2-(4-((5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl)oxy)phenoxy)propionic acid.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for selective halogenation of 6-hydroxy picoline derivatives such as 6-hydroxy picolinic acid and 6-hydroxy picoline. When 6-hydroxy picolinic acid is halogenated by allowing it to stand in an aqueous mineral acid solution for a sufficient period to replace the halo substituent with a hydroxy substituent, and then halogenated, an improved yield of the 3-halo, 6-hydroxy picolinic acid to the 5-halo 6-hydroxy picolinic acid is obtained.
Abstract: Disclosed are phosphorus derivatives of 6-cycloalkyl-4-pyrimidinols and their utility as insecticides which possess both systemic and foliar activity for plants against insect pests.

Abstract: Less damage to soybeans occur when the combination of bentazon and a 3-substituted-pyridyloxy(or thio)phenoxy alkanoate herbicide is applied thereto, in comparison to the combination of bentazon and a 3-unsubstituted pyridyloxy(or thio)phenoxy alkanoate herbicide.
