  • Patent number: 5051545
Abstract: Disclosed herein are position determining apparatus and conductor structures or grids therefor. The conductor structure for each axis includes a number of conductors, at least one of which is run in a serpentine path with a non-uniform repeat increment. The repeat increment, which is the spacing between one run and the next of the same serpentine conductor, is constrained by a maximum repeat increment, or a minimum repeat increment, or a maximum change in repeat increments between consecutive runs of a same conductor, or combinations thereof. In the preferred embodiments, there is at least a constraint on the maximum repeat increment to provide noise immunity. The conductors are arranged for each axis of the grid in a pattern such that signals obtained for that axis may be processed to provide binary members in a Gray-type code each unique to a small region of the active area in which the coil center is located.

  • Patent number: 5044786
Abstract: In a bearing arrangement for a rotary drum, the ends of two cradles are attached to load-carrying rollers which rotate freely over a surface area of a race of the rotary drum. The cradles run in self-aligning bearings in a load-bearing structure via intermediate cradles. Each load-carrying roller runs in bearings at the end of its respective cradle, in a manner which avoids slanting and which is free of axial clearance. Each cradle runs in rocker bearing located between its two load-carrying rollers, without bearing clearance at the end of an intermediate cradle. One of the intermediate cradles runs in a journal bearing with an axial clearance equal to or larger than the axial dislocation of the load-carrying rollers in the load bearing structure when the rotary drum is in operation.

  • Patent number: 5046089
Abstract: A method of lowering the power absorbed by an interface circuit, in the "power-down" state thereof, as incorporated to a telephone exchange and connected to a telephone subscriber line, being of a type which comprises a monitoring circuit portion connected between the line and the exchange. The method involves the steps of,detecting the polarization level of a conductor in the line, comparing that level with a reference value by means of a comparator having an input connected to the line and an output connected to the input of the monitoring circuit portion, switching the interface circuit to a standby state on a higher level than the reference value being sensed, once again detecting the polarization level of the line, this time through the interface circuit, andactivating the telephone exchange when, on completion of the second detection step, the polarization level stays above the reference value.

  • Patent number: 5034688
Abstract: The invention concerns a temperature conditioning support for thermal tests on small objects such as semiconductor wafers incorporating integrated circuits. It consists of a platen and a hollow base. Inside the hollow cavity is contained a serpentine which can convey thermal fluid capable of heating and/or cooling the platen to achieve temperature regulation of the object placed on the platen, according to data supplied by a thermometric system that includes a temperature sensor associated to said support. The platen is made of electrically insulating and thermally conducting ceramic, the base being made of a material whose thermal expansion coefficient is substantially equal to that of the platen. A thin-film electrical resistance can be provided to ensure heating and, optionally, temperature measurement of the platen.
