  • Patent number: 5060961
Abstract: A mechanically joined steering assembly for supporting the wheel of a wheeled vehicle for steering movement relative to the frame of the vehicle. The steering assembly includes a crown attached by mechanical fasteners to blades and to a central steering portion joining the assembly to the frame of the vehicle. The parts joined are the blades (16), steerer (14), crown (12), and reinforcements (24). Mechanical fasteners serviceable with common tools provide a reinforced steering assembly of greater strength than welded or brazed constructions. This assembly allows the use of metallic, advanced composite, or thermoplastic components. Adjustments of axle location and steering geometry are made by sliding blades (16) up or down in crown (12). Blades (16), steerer (14), and crown (12) retain the original cold drawn strength of the metal used by mechanically joining without brazing or welding.

  • Patent number: 5058253
Abstract: A machine tool comprises two motion units, in particular a spindle stock and a machine bed, arranged for being displaced relative to each other along one axis. A guideway is fixed to a first motion unit for guiding the displaceable motion unit, a first surface of the guideway being in contact with, and screwed to a second surface of the first motion unit. In order to prevent the guideways from being dislodged in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the machine screws, for example when the spindle stock runs up against a stationary obstacle due to improper operation, at least one of the said surface is roughened.

  • Patent number: 5053695
Abstract: A non-intrusive DC current monitor is presented which emulates the theoretical operation of an AC transformer. A conductor, carrying the current to be measured, acts as the primary of a DC current transformer. This current is passed through the center of a secondary coil, and core positioned thereabout, and produces a magnetic flux which induces a current in the secondary proportional to the current flowing in the primary. Means are provided to periodically "reset" the transformer core such that the measurement inaccuracies associated with core saturation are obviated. A reset current is caused to periodically flow through the secondary coil which produces a magnetic flux oppositely polarized to the flux created by the current in the primary, thus allowing ongoing measurements to be made.

  • Patent number: 5050292
Abstract: An improved automated method for the manufacture of alternatively sized passive transponder devices is presented which utilizes a single leadframe design and manufacturing process, including automated coil winding and wire-to-lead termination. A specially designed leadframe is prepared, with augmented leads, and is coated with a thin layer of silver. One or more semiconductor chips are bonded to individual assembly sites on the leadframe, after which the lead-die assembly is encapsulated by transfer molding. The cap and leads are singulated, and a bobbin is attached to the leads, which extend laterally from each individual molded cap. In an automated process, a conductive wire is attached to a first of the protruding leads, fly-wound around the bobbin core, and terminated by connection to a second of the protruding leads.

  • Patent number: 5043666
Abstract: An electromagnetic field sensing apparatus used for locating and determining the distance to buried conductive conduits including at least two receptor means, each adapted to receive a signal from the conduit and produce an output voltage proportional to the signal received, and also including a calibrating coil, with known relative coupling to the receptor means, and capable of inducing calibrating signals therein. Computing means are employed to calculate the relative sensitivities of each said receptor means using the voltage signals induced therein by the calibrating coil, and said known relative coupling relationships. The computing means further uses the output voltages from said receptor means, induced therein by the signal radiating from the conductive conduit, and said relative sensitivities to calculate the distance to and location of the conduit. Display means are provided to indicate this distance and location.

  • Patent number: 5039567
Abstract: A resilient panel having anisotropic flexing characteristics in which thermal compression bonding techniques have been to laminate a plurality of sheets of thermoplastic polyurethane material together with bonds that are in strip form, spaced at regular intervals, and staggered between alternate sheets of material. The laminated stack was then cut into slices of appropriate thickness, and the slices were expanded to form a honeycombed core which, while held in spread apart disposition, was thermally pre-formed and made ready to receive facing materials. The facing materials were then thermal compression bonded to each side of the honeycombed core, and the panels were trimmed to assume their final dimensions.

  • Patent number: 5031976
Abstract: An improved catadioptric imaging system is presented which produces a flat accessible final image, and is particularly effective at high speed in the deep ultraviolet spectral range. The lenses of the system are formed from a single glass type, fused silica. A first group of lenses serves as an aberration corrector group. A single focusing lens focuses light, transmitted through the corrector group, forming an intermediate image at a predetermined position within the system. A separate field lens is placed at the intermediate image point, and focuses the light transmitted thereto through a hole in the center of a spherical mirror. The light then travels through a separate thick lens element and is subsequently reflected by a planar mirror back through the thick lens and towards the concave reflective side of the spherical mirror. The spherical mirror thereafter reflects this incident light, focusing it through a hole in the center of the planar mirror and to a final imaging point outside of the system.

  • Patent number: 5029108
Abstract: Edge enhancement method and apparatus for dot matrix devices wherein a group of gradient mask matrices are applied to a "current matrix", wherein a TBAP (To Be Adjusted Pixel) is surrounded by neighboring pixels, to determine if the TBAP is at a location where a change of brightness occurs. From this matrix operation, a conclusion is derived as to the existence or non-existence of an edge and the direction of the brightness change. The current matrix and a predetermined number of previously evaluated and yet to be evaluated pixels are then compared to a set of reference bit patterns which depict possible segment changes to be corrected. If the result indicates that the TBAP is on an edge of a changing edge segment, a corresponding code will be generated to modify the TBAP to enhance the smoothness of a segment transition.

  • Patent number: 5025550
Abstract: An improved automated method for the manufacture of small implantable passive transponder devices is presented in which semiconductor wafer die are bonded to a conductively coated tape leadframe. This tape, with die attached, is injected molded to form a cap around the leads and the attached die, such that the exposed portion of the leads extend laterally from the cap. A ferrite core is attached to the base of the cap, and a fine coil wire, dispensed from a specially designed applicator, is automatically bonded to one of the leads protruding from the cap body. The wire is subsequently wound around the ferrite core and terminated by automatic attachment to another of the protruding leads. • Patent number: 5016946
Abstract: A modular storage container including a drawer configured to be received into and contained by a housing. The housing consists of two identical molded units that are joined and fastened together by a guide bracket. The guide bracket also functions to position the drawer within the housing. The drawer slides within the housing on a drawer glide which interfaces with the guide bracket of the housing. Two sets of ridges are disposed on outer surface of the base of each molded unit. When two or more containers are stacked, the ridges on the top of the supporting container will interdigitate with the ridges on the underside of the mounted container to align the containers squarely atop each other and to inhibit longitudinal and lateral movement of the stacked containers. Each container has a drawer lock for security.
