Abstract: A strap having fasteners for securing the handle of a grease gun in the closed position has a first loop for wrapping around the barrel of a grease gun and a second loop for wrapping around the grease gun handle in the flexed position.
Abstract: A goniometer (also sometimes referred to as an arthrometer, fleximeter, or pronometer) for measuring the range of motion of an animal knee includes an anchor platform to which an animal's upper leg (femur) may be affixed, and a mobile platform to which the animal's lower leg (shin and tibia) may be affixed so that the upper and lower leg are situated along a common axis. The mobile platform is preferably movable in two degrees of freedom (translational and rotational) about the anchor platform so that the relative motion of the platforms causes the upper and lower leg to move about the intermediate knee joint. A force transducer (such as a spring scale) and/or a torque transducer (such as a common torque wrench) may be used to obtain measurements of the laxity of the knee joint.

Abstract: A combustion chamber valve, such as an intake valve or an exhaust valve, is briefly opened during the compression and/or power strokes of a 4-strokes combustion cycle in an internal combustion engine (in particular, a diesel or CI engine). The brief opening may (1) enhance mixing withing the combustion chamber, allowing more complete oxidation of particulates to decrease engine emissions; and/or may (2) delay ignition until a more desirable time, potentially allowing a means of timing ignition in otherwise difficult-to-control conditions, e.g., in HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) conditions.

Abstract: This application discloses a toy construction apparatus that can be used to make posable toy figures. The apparatus includes structural pieces, called “bones,” which can be connected to a plurality of other bones by joints that can be formed by a marble or similar device and connecting structures on the ends of each bone. These joints can either be movable or rigid depending on the type of connecting structures on the end of each bone being connected by the joint. Additionally, specialized structures, such as heads, feet, and torsos, can be used with the toy construction apparatus that allow the user to create more complex and life-like toy figures.
Abstract: A device is provided for piercing a graft and artery wall in order to retain the graft on the artery. The device has a central section with an abutment surface for contacting the inner wall of the graft and two elongate members with distal ends for contacting the outer wall of the artery when the device is pierced through the graft and artery. The elongate members are biased so as to urge the abutment surface into the graft and retain the graft on the artery.
Abstract: A valve monitoring system includes an alert generation system and a memory. The memory encodes baseline acoustic emission data on the valve for a predetermined period of operation. The alert generation system is arranged to receive acoustic emission data for the valve, compare the received acoustic emission data for the valve with the baseline acoustic emission data encoded in the memory and identify valve anomalies in dependence on differences in the received acoustic emission data and the baseline acoustic emission data.
Abstract: A method of conveying musical information is described. The method includes the steps of assigning sequential alphabetic and numeric designations as a system of reference to the physical location of individual piano keys on a piano keyboard, the physical location corresponding to the location of the structural form of tonal relatioships in the numeric scale of vibrations per second used in the even-tempered, twelve-tone system of Western music, and modeling a musical passage comprised of a series of tones by compiling printed or electronically stored indicia of one or more of the numeric designations, the numeric designation corresponding to the series of tones of the musical passage. A numeric sequence is then presented to a student via visual or auditory means.
Abstract: A metal detector adapted to generate a transmit search signal and to receive a receive search signal, and to analyse such received search signal, wherein the detector is adapted to allow a selection of operating parameters for each of these functions, said selection being effected by the storage as data in a memory of such selection, characterised in that the detector is adapted to allow such stored data to be modified in accordance with data in an external store, further characterised in that there is a digital data communication transmission program, adapted to effect a transmission of some or all of the stored data through a data transmission means to enable a further metal detector to receive and store for use in such further detector the said data.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for energy conversion by gas flow over solid materials and also to a method for measurement of velocity of a gas flow over solid material such as doped semiconductors, graphite, and the like as a function of the 5 electricity generated in the solid material due to the flow of the gas along the surface thereof using a combination of the Seebeck effect and Bernoulli's principle.
Abstract: Disclosed are cyclic imino oligomers and polymers comprised of subunits of the formula: Also disclosed are combinatorial libraries and arrays of the cyclic imino compounds.
Abstract: A connector (1) connects an air-inflatable mattress (4) which alternately inflatable cells (11, 12) to a pump. Air-supply lines (13, 14) from the pump are attached to male parts (2) of connector (1). Air-supply lines (15, 16) from mattress (4) connect to passages (17, 18) of female parts (3) of the connector (1). When the male parts (2) and the female parts (3) are engaged, supply lines (13, 14) are in fluid communication with fluid lines (15, 16) via passages (17, 18) in the female part (3). When the male parts (2) are removed from the connector (1) to disconnect the air supply, one-way valves (7) seal the air-supply lines (13, 14) and expose a cross-connect port (8) in interconnecting the female part passages (17, 18). Thus cells (11, 12) are interconnected and the pressure is equalized throughout the mattress (4). The invention provides a self-sealing automatic transport mode connection system upon disengagement of the male parts (2) from the mattress (4), thus eliminating user error.
Abstract: A sewing machine is provided which is capable of sewing reinforcing wire to tubular grafts in order to form stent grafts. A bobbin (which may be seated in a shuttle) carries a bottom thread through the bore of the tubular graft and forms a stitch in combination with a top thread carried on a needle which pierces the graft wall.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method and a corresponding kit for determining the cytotoxicity of a test agent. The method includes the steps of adding a pre-determined amount of the test agent to a vessel containing living cells in culture medium. The cells are then incubated for a pre-determined amount of time. To the cells and culture medium is then added a reagent mixture that is non-toxic to the living cells. In the preferred embodiment, the reagent mixture contains a solvent, a dye, an electron transfer agent, a substrate for a cytoplasmic enzyme having a half-life greater than two hours and NAD+. The contents of the vessel are then measured for production of the reduced state of the dye, the production of the reduced state of the dye being caused by a cytoplasmic enzyme specific for the substrate in the reagent mixture. In the preferred embodiment, the production of the reduced state of the dye is caused by lactate dehydrogenase released from dead and dying cells within the vessel.
Abstract: A control system for an internal combustion engine includes a virtual engine model which mathematically represents the states of the engine in real time, but which is programmed to provide the engine's states at least a fraction of an engine cycle (and preferably at least one-fourth of an engine cycle, i.e., one stroke) to several engine cycles in advance of the real engine. The mass flow entering and leaving the cylinder is modeled, allowing parameters such as the mass of air per cylinder (MAC) and residual exhaust gas to be computed, and thereafter used to generate engine control commands related to fuel injection (air/fuel ratio), spark advance, and so forth.
