  • Patent number: 4334315
Abstract: A wireless transmitting and receiving system includes an ear microphone of the vibration pick-up type for picking up bone-conducted voice signals through an external auditory ear canal wall of a wearer. A portable case is disposed adjacent the wearer's ear and a wireless device is attached adjacent the wearer but spaced from the portable case. A transmitter of a transmitting circuit for transmitting the output signals of the ear microphone is housed in the portable case. A receiver of a receiving circuit is housed in the wireless device and receives signals from outside the system. The transmitting and receiving circuits provide a wireless connection between the portable case and the wireless device permitting two-way communication through one ear of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 4332276
Abstract: A venting valve for a cargo hose includes a cover plate attachable to the hose, the plate having an opening which receives a coupling to a check valve. The check valve prevents escape of fuel but admits air to permit fuel to drain from the hose into an attached storage tank, preventing spillage when the hose is subsequently detached therefrom and handled.

  • Patent number: 4332088
Abstract: An apparatus for accurately locating a stud concealed behind wallboard or the like includes a calibrated plate with an opening and an L-shaped probe having a coupling member on one end. A test hole is made in the wall and the probe is inserted through the hole until the coupling member goes into the plate opening. The probe is then swung through an angle from vertical until it strikes the stud. The plate has indicia to indicate distance to the stud, solving the right triangle of which the probe is the hypoteneuse.

  • Patent number: 4331792
Abstract: There is provided a continuous process for the production of a copolymer of an alkali metal vinyl sulfonate and acrylic acid. The process comprises continuously feeding an aqueous solution of an alkali metal vinyl sulfonate and acrylic acid together with a polymerization initiator to a reaction zone. The reaction zone is operated adiabatically at a temperature sufficiently high to affect copolymerization of the alkali metal vinyl sulfonate and acrylic acid. The alkali metal vinyl sulfonate and acrylic acid are maintained in the reaction zone for a residence time sufficient to form a copolymer of these two monomers. The resultant copolymer is continuously removed from the reaction zone.

  • Patent number: 4327896
Abstract: A collapsible jack comprising a base member, a support member and a ramp member with each member including a plate with side rails coupled to and extending from the plate. Front and rear pivoting mechanisms couple the base, ramp and support members each including upper and lower pivot rods extending perpendicular to the side rails and interconnected by rigid braces. The lower pivot rods have opposite ends journaled in the base side rails, while the opposite ends of the upper pivot rods are journaled in the support side rails. The upper ends of the ramp side rails are journaled to the front upper pivot rod. Openings in the ramp and base members are aligned when the jack is in its upright position to receive a locking bar which locks the jack in the upright position.

  • Patent number: 4326733
Abstract: A hydro-pneumatic suspension for automotive vehicles has two hydro-pneumatic shock absorbers per wheel. The shock absorbers are installed on a chassis of two C-shaped sections facing each other. A carrier fixed to the vehicle axle is pivotally coupled to the shock absorbers by rocker arms and swings. A protective rubber stop is fixed to the carrier. A reserve oil tank is coupled to the chassis between the shock absorbers and includes an oil level valve. The hydro-pneumatic suspension absorbs shock and increases the stability of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4326645
Abstract: A load of solid food products such as fried potato chips and french fries are supplied to a receptacle opening into a dispensing chamber in which a releasable weighing platform is disposed. In order to facilitate flow of food products within the load and above a bottom wall of the receptacle, an agitator member having elongate parallel spaced-apart side elements joined by an end element adjacent a rear wall of the receptacle remote from the chamber opening is constrained to move upwards and downwards and towards and away from the chamber opening to exert a supporting and lifting action on the load of food products above said agitator member. When a predetermined weight of food products is reached, the weighing platform hinges downwardly to dispense a weighed portion of food products.

  • Patent number: 4324083
Abstract: A space frame formed from a first set of beams and joints in a first plane and a second set of beams and joints in a second plane, the joints in the two planes being interconnected by diagonal tubular struts. Each strut has two shafts at opposite ends which are received, respectively, in apertures in a joint in the first plane and a joint in the second plane. Each shaft has a fastening member coupled thereto for maintaining the shaft in the aperture. Each shaft extends along the longitudinal axis of the associated tubular strut.

  • Patent number: 4322176
Abstract: A joint for connecting tubular beams comprising two caps receiving deformed end portions of the beams therebetween. Each cap has a tapering tubular portion in contact with the end portions, each end portion having first and second outwardly diverging opposed faces and third and fourth inwardly converging opposed faces. The outer perimeter of the end portion is greater than the perimeter of an opening defined on the top and bottom by the two caps and on the sides by adjacent beams, so each end portion is highly resistant to forces tending to pull it from between the caps and must be mechanically deformed before it will be pulled through the opening.

  • Patent number: 4321298
Abstract: A fibrous carbon material is first coated with a thermosetting material which remains flexible after being subjected to curing temperatures. The thermosetting material contains a refractory metal capable of reacting with boron to form a metal boride. This thermosetting resin is then cured. The fibrous carbon material is then impregnated with a second thermosetting resin containing a boron compound and, optionally, a refractory metal capable of reacting with boron to form a metal boride. The second thermosetting resin is at least partially cured and a plurality of layers of the fibrous material is then assembled to form a laminate. The laminate is heated to a temperature sufficient to carbonize the thermosetting resin. The resultant carbon-carbon composite has better oxidation resistance, improved high temperature stability, higher density and improved interlaminar tensile strength than does a composite prepared without the presence of the refractory metal in the thermosetting resin.
