  • Patent number: 6260793
Abstract: To provide aerodynamic continuity between the front part, pivoting with the rotor, and the stationary rear part of a pod housing an engine for driving the rotor, a curved cowl curved about the pivot axis extends the rear edge of the bottom cowling of the front part to join this rear edge to the front edge of a bottom cowling of the stationary rear part, in helicopter mode, and a flap swivel-mounted on the top cowling of the front part joins this latter to the top cowling of the stationary rear part, onto which this flap is folded, in helicopter mode.

  • Patent number: 6257282
Abstract: Prefabricated insulated pipe sections are constructed of an inner pipe surrounded by a concentrically-positioned outer pipe. End portions of the inner and outer pipes are joined with bellow members so that an annular space is defined. A portion of the inner pipe is wrapped with layers of insulation material with inert insulating granules positioned between the layers. The annular space is partially evacuated to below atmospheric pressure. Multiple pipe sections may be joined by their inner pipes through brazing or other known methods. The joints and neighboring bellow members on abutting pipe sections are covered by vacuum sleeves that are sealed and provide a vacuum tight joint.

  • Patent number: 6253652
Abstract: In a web slitter of the type used for cutting continuous webs of material, such as paper, a top slitter assembly features a hub cylinder attached to its frame. The hub cylinder supports a freely rotating hub to which the top blade of the web slitter is mounted. The hub cylinder may be raised and lowered with respect to the slitter frame so that the top blade may be lowered to, and raised from, its cutting position. A toggle support is clamped to the hub cylinder while a pin holder is attached to the slitter frame. A toggle is attached to the toggle support in a pivoting fashion. Housed within the pin holder is a sliding pin and a compression spring. The compression spring resists the movement of the pin towards the hub of the web slitter. The pin may be extended so that it engages a notch in the hub. When the hub cylinder is raised, the toggle may be pivoted so that it abuts the end of the engaged pin against the action of the compression spring. As a result, the pin is maintained in engagement with the hub.

  • Patent number: 6254216
Abstract: A clean-in-place system for use in an ink jet printhead has a compartment and an end plate with a slot therein to permit ink drops to be projected from the compartment onto a substrate to be marked. For cleaning purposes, a shutter is disposed adjacent the slot to seal it. Thereafter, the pump floods the compartment with ink solvent from a solvent reservoir. The solvent may be agitated by air or a mechanical device. Thereafter, a drain line is used to remove the solvent from the compartment. The pneumatic shutter is reopened after the solvent is withdrawn to enhance the drying of the components. The shutter may consist of an inflatable member and a pump for supplying compressed air to the inflatable member to inflate and deflate it.

  • Patent number: 6254041
Abstract: Cable conduit comprising a section of U-shape cross-section, with a base and two wings, the base having U-shape cut-outs each bounding a tongue. One of the tongues is folded back on the base so as to leave free a cable passage opening which enables a cable supported in the cable conduit, to run out from the cable conduit.

  • Patent number: 6253148
Abstract: An information system for informing users of a bus network about waiting times for buses at stops in the network. The system includes a system for locating buses coupled to a central point which broadcasts said positions at successive instants &thgr; to receivers adapted to calculate waiting times for the buses on the basis of their positions, which positions reach the receivers after a certain average length of “transit” time T. In order to ensure that calculated waiting times as are accurate as possible, the central computer point broadcasts to the receivers estimated positions that the buses are expected to occupy at instant &thgr;+T.

  • Patent number: 6252706
Abstract: The invention concerns a telescopic rifle sight for individual weapon equipped with at least one step micro-motor designed to vary the angle of the sight relative to the axis of the weapon and the initial axis of aim, thereby adequately varying the whole sight assembly and thus varying the original position of the sight reticle from the original point of aim to the required point of aim.

  • Patent number: 6248356
Abstract: There is disclosed a class of pharmaceutical compositions useful for the treatment of cancer, particularly solid tumors, and having a mechanism of action as spermine antagonists. The present pharmaceutical compositions are able to inhibit the inhibitory effect of spermine upon macrophage function, and thus prevent spermine-induced immunosuppression.

  • Patent number: 6243980
Abstract: Heterogenous and homogenous assays are provided for the detection of protease inhibitory activity in a sample or target compound, taking advantage of the chemiluminescent characteristics of 1,2-dioxetanes. In the heterogenous assay, a peptide bearing a cleavage site for the protease of interest is provided with a first member of a first ligand binding pair at one end, and a first member of a second ligand binding pair at the other end. The other member of the first ligand binding pair is attached to a surface, which binds the peptide, or protease substrate, to the surface. The peptide substrate is combined with the protease and target compound or sample. Substrate cleavage, if not inhibited, is allowed to occur, and any unbound cleaved fragments are removed. An enzyme complexed with the second member of the second ligand binding pair is added, and allowed to bind to any of the (uncleaved) first member of the second ligand binding pair remaining.
