  • Patent number: 4461418
Abstract: A fastener driving tool of unitary construction. The tool is characterized by a tubular grip having a fastener driving ram slidably disposed in the tube and a frictional element which maintains frictional engagement between the grip and the ram. The frictional element serves to prevent the ram from rebounding out of contact with the fastener after a blow is struck. The blow receiving end of the ram is of greater diameter than the inside diameter of the grip and comes in contact with the grip when the fastener driving end of the ram has reached the opposite end of the grip. This arrangement permits the user to determine the length of travel remaining before the fastener will be fully driven. The unitary construction of the driver is achieved by forming a detent in the grip after the grip, the ram, and the frictional element are assembled.

  • Patent number: 4446850
Abstract: A self contained, fully automatic, vertical wall panel, solar energy system characterized by having no moving parts in the panel. The panel is substantially a shallow rectangular box having a closed perimeter, an outer insulating chamber which is substantially a double glazed window, and an inner energy storage chamber which is provided with containers of phase change materials. The energy storage chamber is provided with air entrance and exit passages which communicate with the space to be heated. Thermostatically controlled blowers serve to move air from the space to be heated across the containers of phase change material and back to the space to be heated. Thermostatically controlled blowers also serve to move insulating material into and out of the insulating chamber at appropriate times.

  • Patent number: 4335548
Abstract: A foundation insulating skirt comprising a sheet of insulating material to be placed in contact with the outside perimeter of a foundation, and an outer protective shield for the panel. The protective shield is configured so as to cover the top edge and the outside surface of the sheet. The invention has utility as an insulating skirt for the outside of the footings of floating slab constructions and the like. An embodiment of the invention may be employed as the outer pouring form for said footings thereafter the form is left in place, as an integral part of the footing. The insulating skirt is at least in part held in place by the earth which is back filled against the footing and which bears against and supports the lower portion of the insulating skirt.

  • Patent number: 4330951
Abstract: A visualizer presentation device comprising a portfolio having a display cover hingably joined to a storage cover and the storage cover has detachably secured thereto at least one file of hinged transparent sleeves for receiving file cards. The display cover has corner pockets configured so as to receive and index transparent, information carrying graphics in overlaying relationships one with the other. The storage cover has a transparency storage pouch having a transparency receiving opening directed towards the hinge of the portfolio. The transparencies have indicia bearing tabs secured thereto in such a way as to project from the storage pouch and provide ready identification of the graphics contained on the transparencies. Files of hinged transparent sleeves are detachably secured to the storage cover. The visualizer is constructed and configured so as to be equally utilitarian when in an easel configuration and when laying flat.

  • Patent number: 4281830
Abstract: A Log Roll article of manufacture for use in water recreation. The article is characterized by its fidelity to the properties of a natural log when the article is in use and by its novel and economical construction. The fabricated log is assembled from two substantially identical longitudinal half sections. A bulkhead terminates each end of the half sections. One bulkhead has a closable port through which water and air may pass when the port is open. The log is assembled by cementing two identical half sections together so that the port ends of the half sections are at opposite ends of the log. Water is permitted to enter or leave the log at one port while air is permitted to enter or leave the port at the other end of the log. The filling and emptying of the log with water is thereby facilitated.

  • Patent number: 4245861
Abstract: A device for gripping the insides of cores of rolls of materials, and comprising a polygonal central cam, multiple gripping cylinders which are held against the cam by resilient retainer rings and a cylindrical sleeve which retains the gripping cylinders in longitudinal slots passing through the sleeve. The gripping cylinders are caused to move radially inward and outward when the sleeve is rotated relative to the cam and the cylinders are urged outward by the corners of the cam or inward by the resilient retainer rings as the cylinders move from the corners of the polygon to the sides of the polygon.

  • Patent number: 4225985
Abstract: This invention relates to water conserving devices to be used in the water closets of bathroom toilets. The devices may also find applications in other liquid containing and discharging vessels. The invention consists of a partition wall or alternatively a minitank installable in the water closet of a toilet so as to divide the water closet into two separate liquid holding compartments. A flapper valve with a magnetic closure, fitted into the partition wall or into the minitank, opens and closes a port which communicates between the compartments. The actuating means of the flapper valve is operably connected to the existing trip lever of the water closet in such a way that the valve will be actuated only after the existing discharge valve has been actuated first. This arrangement permits the user to discharge water from one or both compartments of the water closet according to his needs.

  • Patent number: 4215501
Abstract: This invention relates to a contrast maintaining means for use in display devices. The invention uses a substrate of synthetic paper having a light reflectance to light transmittance ratio which is in the order of 1 to 1. A substantially opaque coating material having a light reflection index near zero is deposited in the desired pattern upon the substrate so as to provide an information carrying display. The coated areas of the display neither transmit nor reflect a significant amount of light. When light reaches the display from behind the light transmitted through the substrate is of substantially the same intensity as the light that would be reflected from the substrate if the same light had reached the display from the front. The light reaching a viewers' eyes from the uncoated areas of the substrate is constant for nearly all lighting angles while substantially no light reaches the viewers' eyes from the coated areas of the display.
