  • Patent number: 6793800
Abstract: Cathodic protection of an existing concrete structure, including a steel member at least partly buried, such as steel rebar, in the concrete structure, is provided by embedding anodes into a fresh concrete layer applied over an excavated patch and/or as a covering overlay. The anodes are embedded at spaced positions or as an array in the layer and connected to the rebar. A corrosion inhibitor is added into the fresh concrete at least at the interface and more preferably in admixture with the fresh concrete which acts to reduce the flow of ionic current to the steel or between the anode member and the steel in the fresh covering material without significantly increasing the resistivity of the fresh covering material and without inhibiting the ionic current between the anode member and the fresh covering material. In this way the current to the steel in the existing concrete is maximized to maximize the cathodic protection to the existing steel which is the primary target.

  • Patent number: 6779291
Abstract: A device is provided for transmitting a sound signal to a fishing lure on a fishing line of a fishing rod. The device includes a vibrating element supported on the fishing rod to transmit vibrations to the fishing rod and means for coupling the vibrating element to a sound signal source to vibrate the vibrating element in response to the sound signal. The vibrating element is movable relative to the fishing rod at a frequency dependent upon a frequency of the sound signal and at an amplitude dependent upon an amplitude of the sound signal. The vibrating element allows sound to be transmitted to a fishing lure without the need of a complex and specially adapted lure. The sound can be transmitted to a conventional fishing lure through the fishing line in the form of vibrations within a range of frequencies audible to the fish. Furthermore, the vibrations can be completely random so as to simulate movements of live bait.

  • Patent number: 6776356
Abstract: A hydraulic actuator is provided for controlling relative movement between first and second structures between which the actuator is mounted, for example between a boom and the base frame of an agricultural sprayer, while providing some resilience in the form of suspension. The actuator comprises a piston cylinder having a floating cushion piston supported within the cylinder end to support the piston within the cylinder in a retracted position at a prescribed spacing from the cylinder end. The piston can thus be deflected from the retracted position in either direction using a pressure relief mechanism so as to provide some flexibility to the actuator to accommodate the varying forces between the pair of relatively movable structures between which the actuator is mounted. The cushion piston requires no additional electrical switches or controllers and can be part of the hydraulic circuitry of the actuator so as to provide a simple, low cost actuator with integral suspension.

  • Patent number: 6766620
Abstract: A building levelling system is provided for a building having a basement or foundation supported on expansive soil. A water management system is included for maintaining water in the expansive soil at a level adjacent the foundation to saturate the soil with water and thereby prevent the cyclic shrinking and expanding of the soil when the soil is normally repeatedly dried and wetted, causing damage to the building supported thereon. An injection system may also be included for injecting water into the soil spaced well below the foundation to lift a foundation which has already settled significantly due to shrinkage of expansive soil upon which it is supported. The injection system includes a level sensing mechanism for determining when a level of water in a prescribed area of the expansive soil falls below a reference level of the system and injectors for feeding water into that area.
