  • Patent number: 4071336
Abstract: A gas and vapor separator includes an axial fan with blade members which carry an absorbing material. A power means, such as an electric motor, rotates the fan, which causes the adulterated fluid to pass through the apparatus. As the fan blades contact the fluid, the desiccant material absorbs the undesirable elements in the fluid and simultaneously expels the cleansed fluid. The centrifugal force which acts on the absorbed matter causes said matter to radially translate in an outwardly fashion into a circular collector which entraps and retains the absorbed matter. The desiccant material is thereby continuously purged and capable of continuously cleansing the adulterated fluid.

  • Patent number: 4068568
Abstract: This invention relates to systems for clearing smoke from buildings when a fire occurs therein. Smoke detectors are provided in communal units in the building and means are provided for maintaining the pressure in accommodation units of the building above that in the communal units under normal conditions, so that there is a flow of air from the accommodation units to the communal units through the cracks in the doorways separating the accommodation units from the communal units. This flow of air ensures that, if a fire occurs in any one of the accommodation units, smoke will be carried into one of the communal units where it will be detected by one of the smoke detectors. When smoke is detected, conditions are reversed, so that the pressure in the communal units is maintained above that in the accommodation units. As a result, there will be a flow of air from the communal units to the accommodation units, once again through the cracks in the doorways.

  • Patent number: 4063542
Abstract: For lapping the surfaces defining a hole in a wiredrawing die of diamond or artificial material, one or more transducers are excited by respective ultrasonic generators to produce mechanical vibrations imparted to lapping needles. Turntables arranged opposite to the tips of the lapping needles are rotated from a common drive shaft and, simultaneously, each rolled or swayed about an axis passing through the die mounted thereon. A cam or crank mechanism driven from the common drive shaft is employed for the rolling motion of each turntable. The apparatus further comprises means for fine adjustment of the position of each turntable relative to the lapping needle in a plane at right angles therewith, and means for yieldably urging the die on the turntable against the lapping needle under adjustable pressure.

  • Patent number: 4061343
Abstract: In a phonograph of the type wherein, during playback, a pickup arm travels in sliding contact with an overlying intermediate vibrator for transmission of stylus vibrations thereto, a lever is fulcrumed at its intermediate point on the intermediate vibrator. A constant force is applied to one end of the lever, as by a spring, and the other lever end is urged against a loudspeaker diaphragm rigidly supported by the phonograph casing, so that the vibrations of the intermediate vibrator are transmitted via the lever to the diaphragm to cause same to produce corresponding sound waves. Preferably, the distance between the said other end and fulcrum of the lever is at least equal to the distance between the said one end and fulcrum of the lever.

  • Patent number: 4044795
Abstract: A selective and proportional hydraulic remote control device including jacks which are connected to a high pressure oil circuit commutated by distributors. The distributors are remotely controlled by a low pressure circuit which is connected to a fluid emitter. The emitter causes the input flow of the low pressure circuit for the distributors to vary. Only the input to the low pressure circuit takes place from the emitter through connections, while the return to the tank takes place from the distributors through jets, the sections of which are fixed. The same distributor can be controlled from several different locations.

  • Patent number: 4039737
Abstract: An electric immersion heating apparatus is provided which includes a first tubular electrode which holds a semiconductor substance such as glass or borate lithium oxide therein. Immersed in the semiconductor is at least one other second electrode whose polarity differs from the polarity of the first electrode. The electric current passing through the electrodes heats up the semiconductor material whose heat is thermally transferred through the first electrode into a material, such as aluminum, to be melted. The first electrode may constitute a graphitic ungrounded casing. The heated semiconductor or liquid resistor maintains a uniform temperature, and uniformly transmits heat. The apparatus makes practical 100-200 kilowatts per square foot of surface area times 3-4 feet of immersion depth.
