  • Patent number: 4026294
Abstract: A device for clamping and then cutting an umbilical cord in separate and distinct clamping and cutting steps. Two parallel clamps are held together by two bridges held between the blades of a pair of scissors. As the blades move towards each other, the umbilical cord is first clamped, and then the scissors are removed from the bridges, and thereafter the scissors sever the umbilical cord. The bridges are then removed from the clamp affixed to the portion of the umbilical cord attached to the newborn child.

  • Patent number: 4020505
Abstract: A teaching machine on which is replaceably mounted a rectangular sheet of paper or the like with a spiral magnetic track on one surface, which is directed downwardly, and with printed material on the other surface for visual presentation of the subject of audio information prerecorded on the track. A movable magnetic head under the sheet follows its track for playback or recording. To afford closer contact between head and sheet and hence to improve the playback quality, a hinged holder frame secures the sheet to the machine casing at its marginal edges only, and the head is spring biased into abutting contact with the yieldably supported sheet. The head itself is supported out of the perpendicular to the plane of the sheet so as to remain in intimate contact therewith throughout its travel along the complete track on the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4011723
Abstract: A fluid power system comprising a steam generator connected to a hydraulic pumping device for delivering steam under pressure to the device for driving the same, while steam is returned to the steam generator via a condenser. The hydraulic pumping device is connected by means of suitable conduits to a plurality of hydraulic motors for driving the same and the conduits include valving means for controlling the direction of fluid between the hydraulic pumping device and the hydraulic motors and returning fluid to a reservoir from which fluid is initially drawn by the hydraulic pumping device. The hydraulic motors provide a rotary output for driving the wheels of a vehicle on which the fluid power system is used. The system further comprises valve means for controlling the pressure at which the system operates.

  • Patent number: 4004815
Abstract: A simplified sound-reproducing device including a constant-torque spiral spring for driving a turntable on which a phonograph record is irreplaceably mounted. The spiral spring is unwound as a manual pull is exerted on a string extending out of the device, and upon release of the string, is rewound to its initial configuration, thereby causing the turntable to rotate in a predetermined direction. A reproducing stylus on a pivotal pickup arm rides in the groove on the record, and the vibrations set up in the stylus and pickup arm during record rotation are directly transmitted to a diaphragm to cause the same to emanate audible sound. Measures are taken against diaphragm deformation due to heat or shock which may be caused through the pickup arm.

  • Patent number: 4002408
Abstract: In a system of overhead projection there is provided a horizontal stage on which is to be placed an object to be imaged. Means for illuminating the object is mounted below the stage at an angle thereto, while a projection lens system is installed above the stage and parallel thereto, in such a position that the axis of the light from the illumination means passes at an angle through its center. A mirror mounted above the lens system projects the undistorted image of the object onto a vertical screen. In another system of overhead projection based on the same principles, the stage and the projection lens system are inclined relative to the illumination means while themselves kept parallel to each other. The axis of the light from the illumination means in this instance extends vertically upwardly and passes at an angle through the center of the lens system. There are further disclosed herein some overhead projectors constructed in accordance with these systems of the invention.

  • Patent number: 3995456
Abstract: A circular knitting machine is described in which two devices for temporarily trapping cut fringe yarns are mounted on the needle cylinder, respectively immediately following the last needle to knit and immediately preceding the first needle to knit. Each trapping device has a radially movable yarn gripping jaw urged into contact with a fixed jaw by resilient means. A cam-operated mechanism temporarily moves the movable jaw out of contact with the fixed jaw against the action of the resilient means in order to allow insertion of a fringe yarn between the jaws and release of a fringe yarn from the jaws.

  • Patent number: 3994539
Abstract: A self-contained activated slide apparatus of the single or double bar configuration. The apparatus includes a housing which is slidable relative to a bar, or vice versa. The housing may be fixed to an external element, or the bar may be so fixed. The length of the slide stroke may be controlled by the use of stops on single bar slides, and by the use of adjustable end bar assemblies and stops on the two-bar units. The slide apparatus may be activated and controlled from within by the use of a fluid power medium. Slide action may be fully controlled by controlling the pneumatic or hydraulic power source and flow.

  • Patent number: 3992016
Abstract: A phonograph wherein the vibrations set up by a record groove in a reproducing stylus on a tone arm are transmitted, without conversion into electric signals, to a diaphragm overlying the tone arm. Arranged between the tone arm and diaphragm is an intermediate vibrator which has a vibrator rod extending upwardly therefrom. The diaphragm is conical in shape, is secured to the phonograph casing at the periphery of its base, and has an aperture at its vertex to receive the vibrator rod with clearance. The intermediate vibrator is spring biased into contact with the tone arm, and the vibrator rod also spring biased into contact with the edge of the diaphragm bounding the aperture. This aperture can be reinforced with a hollow member which will receive the vibrator rod with clearance.
