  • Patent number: 4965742
Abstract: An integrated system for process control in which a process supervisor procedure (which is preferably the top-level procedure) is configured as a modular software structure with modules which can be revised by a user at any time, without significantly interrupting the operation of the process supervisor. Users can define or redefine modules by editing highly constrained templates. These templates use a standardized data interface (as seen by the user), which facilitates communications with an extremely wide variety of systems. The template set preferably contains highly constrained portions (which are optimized for the most common functions), and also contains pointers to user-customized functions. Thus, rapid set-up and modification are possible, but sophisticated users still have full flexibility to do customization.

  • Patent number: 4963256
Abstract: A sampling device for use with an open necked container capable of holding a fluid material, comprises a hollow support member insertable into the container through the open necked portion thereof. The support member comprises a main body portion of a smaller diameter than the open neck of the container; a first end portion extends from the main body portion and is open to the ambient atmosphere through the open neck portion of the container. In one embodiment, elongated ribbed members extend from the main body portion and define a second end portion. The ribbed members form a generally rigid support structure. A dialysis tubing is fitted over the ribbed members and is closed at one end to define an open ended dialysis sac, the inside of which is directly accessible through the first end portion of the support structure.

  • Patent number: 4961436
Abstract: A cervical cap for covering a portion of the cervix uteri in order to prevent migration of sperm from the vagina into the cervical canal to thereby prevent conception. The cervical cap has an open end portion, a dome-shaped portion, preferably sealed, disposed opposite the open end portion, and a ridged section designed to grip the cervix to secure the cap. In the preferred embodiments, the ridged section has a plurality of substantially parallel ring-shaped ridges formed on the interior surface of the cap. In an alternate embodiment, a helical-shaped ridge is formed on the interior surface of the cap and extends from the rim to the dome portion, progressively narrowing in width.

  • Patent number: 4959641
Abstract: A stereoscopic display device in which a plurality of independently controllable and discrete light sources are provided in fixed relation to a lenticular screen. The light sources are adapted and arranged for the display of a pair of interlaced images such that the display device produces a three-dimensional image comprising a pair of spaced-apart images having parallax therebetween. A moving stereoscopic display which can be viewed by the naked eye can thus be achieved.

  • Patent number: 4958055
Abstract: A control circuit for a refrigerator combined with a microwave oven includes signal delay selecting and comparing circuitry start sensing circuitry timer circuitry and load driving circuitry in order to properly control operations of the refrigerator and the microwave oven. The control circuit eliminates unnecessary delay time of the operation of the microwave oven during operation of the refrigerator, and makes the refrigerator operate after start-up of the microwave oven is completed.

  • Patent number: 4957338
Abstract: A method of fabricating a fused fibre optic coupler includes disposing two or more segments of optical fibre under longitudinal tension. The tensioned fibre segments are preheated to a temperature sufficient to soften the segments and thereby substantially relieve their tension by inelastic stretching of the segments. After the segments have cooled, the fibre segments are re-tensioned and then heated while in intimate side-by-side contact to a temperature sufficient to cause the fibre segments to fuse together.

  • Patent number: 4957613
Abstract: An adjustable-height vertical gel slab electrophoresis apparatus comprises a vertically oriented gel slab arranged between upper and lower buffer solution reservoirs. A bifurcated removable lower tray contains both an upper buffer reservoir drain and lower buffer reservoir. A gel mold experiment can be assembled and disassembled with unusual ease with the aid of unique self-locking clamp assemblies. Modular units may be vertically stacked to construct a vertical electrophoresis apparatus of variable height. Separable but interlocking upper and lower portions of the adjustable-height apparatus may have inserted between them intermediate insert assemblies which effectively extend the vertical height of the apparatus, thus facilitating flexibility in performing electrophoresis runs of greatly varying physical length without the need to purchase entirely separate units of different heights. Various interlocking wobble or tilt in either vertical plane.

  • Patent number: 4955547
Abstract: A fluidic oscillating nozzle that oscillates a fluid jet at high frequency by the use of fluidic amplification technology with no moving parts. The jet that issues from the nozzle is a zero-degree jet of fluid that maintains a very high energy density; however, due to its oscillation, its appearance is that of a fan-type jet that disperses at a fan angle from the nozzle. At a nominal distance from the nozzle, the jet covers the surface with a relatively broad area of flow while maintaining high energy impact density due to the impact effects of the non-expanding zero-degree jet.

  • Patent number: 4956851
Abstract: A modem which can automatically switch between protocols at different signalling rates. The protocal with non-standard signalling rates has a training sequence which initially has distinctive frequency-domain characteristics. Thus, as soon as one modem begins to send a training sequence, the other modem can distinguish which training sequence has been started. Thus, speed changes between protocols at different signalling rates can be remotely initiated.

  • Patent number: 4956534
Abstract: A microwave sourced heat exchanger in an inverted, frusta-pyramidal or frusto-conal shaped configuration. A heat conductive medium is carried within microwave transparent pipes toward a microwave source along a split path of increasing perimeter. The geometrical design of the microwave heat exchanger allows the heat conductive medium anywhere in the conduit to be directly exposed to microwaves. Further, the geometry of the microwave heat exchanger induces a thermal siphon when the heat conductive medium within is exposed to a microwave source placed at the exchanger's broader base. This thermal siphon effect allows for elimination or reduction in size of a circulating motor.
