  • Patent number: 4954795
Abstract: A filter for suppressing surface to surface interference for a satellite communication receiver which utilizes a surface acoustic wave (SAW) element. The SAW filter comprises two inter-digital transducers for input and one inter-digital transducer for output, all three transducers are constructed and arranged on a piezoelectric substrate. The widths of the adjacent portions of electrodes and the spaces between the electrodes of the input inter-digital transducers are adjusted based upon the principle of a transversal filter so that the frequency responses of the input interdigital transducers have a predetermined band width and a reduced gain of a frequency range where an interference signal exists respectively.

  • Patent number: 4953364
Abstract: A suction guide device for a dehumidifier is disclosed in which the suction guide member consists of an insertion section, an expanded section and a tapered section connecting the former two sections, and accommodates an evaporator, a condenser and a suction means therein.Further, the suction guide member is firmly secured at its front and rear ends unlike the case of the conventional device, and therefore the device according to the present invention prevents the vibrations and noise, and saves power consumption during the operation, thereby making the dehumidifier using the deivce of the prevent invention economical, useful and practical.Further, the discharged air from the holes of the tapered section is guided so that it passes close to the compressor, thereby contributing to the advantages mentioned above, because the air being discharged efficiently cools the compressor.

  • Patent number: 4953202
Abstract: A telephone line access control or call-barring unit operates on the monitor-and-clear principle to achieve selective call barring. The unit monitors dialled pulses being sent to an exchange, and recognizes a four-digit security number or authorization code intended to be known only to authorized users for bypassing the call-barring function. It also recognizes one or more two-digit or three-digit access codes for programming the call-barring unit to enter various different call-barring modes. The programmablity is purely in response to dialled numbers from any telephone connected to that particular line, and includes the option of changing the authorization code.

  • Patent number: 4953147
Abstract: An acoustic transducer having a curved surface to match the inner or outer surfaces of a target surface such as a cylindrical borehole tubular is disclosed. A sequence of excitation pulses causes the transducer to launch a series of high-frequency, short duration acoustic energy pulses toward the tubular. The transducer face receives echos reflected from the surface of the tubular, including multiple echo structures indicative of the repeated echoing of the acoustic energy between the inner and outer faces of the tubular. The characteristics of the tubular surfaces, including the location, area and depth of any corrosion pits on the tubular surfaces, are determined from the full echo waveform. A rule-based Expert System analyzes the full waveform of the echo pulses returned from the tubular to determine the most likely characteristics of the surfaces which produced the full echo waveform.

  • Patent number: 4949153
Abstract: A semiconductor integrated circuit device includes: an active device, such as a bipolar transistor and a resistor formed of a first silicon layer formed on a thick insulating film on the semiconductor substrate. A metal silicide film is formed on the surface of said first silicon layer for connection between the first silicon layer and an interconnection layer. The interconnection layer has contact with a first and a second part of the metal silicide film formed on a opposited sides of an isulating film on first silicon layer. The part of the first silicon layer under the insulation film and between the first and second parts of the metal silicide film forms the resistor.

  • Patent number: 4938874
Abstract: An improved unit for removal of tannin and lignin from water is disclosed, which features a cylindrical tank containing a tannin/lignin-adsorbing resin bed and a distributor tube/water distributor assembly. The assembly comprises a distributor tube extending from an orifice in the upper portion of the tank to a lower distributor assembly, and a riser tube having an open end disposed near the lower distributor assembly and communicating with an upper distributor located beneath the surface of the resin. A water flow restrictor is provided in the lower distributor assembly, such that when water is passed downwardly through the distributor tube in a backwash mode, some of the water is injected into the riser tube. This causes the backwash water to flow into the resin bed at its lower portion and to carry resin up through the riser tube to the upper portion of the resin bed.

  • Patent number: 4939666
Abstract: A preferred embodiment of the invention is a method for constructing a polypeptide chain having a substantially predetermined conformation. Preferably a known stable well-mapped polypeptide structure is used as a starting point, and additional peptide units are incrementally added on while maintaining favorable enthalpic and entropic contributions to stability. Preferably a library of oligopeptide blocks is used to provide candidates for the additional peptide units. Preferably the library includes numerous precomputed parameters for each of the blocks, e.g. parameters for estimating energetic effects of varying the conformation parameters.
