  • Patent number: 8163590
Abstract: Disclosed are an image sensor and a method of manufacturing the same. The image sensor includes a substrate including a pixel area and a logic circuit area; an interlayer dielectric layer on the substrate and having a trench in the pixel area; and an insulating layer microlens formed in the trench of the interlayer dielectric layer. According to the method, a substrate including a pixel area and a logic circuit area is prepared; an interlayer dielectric layer is formed on the substrate; a first microlens pattern is formed on the interlayer dielectric layer on the pixel area; and a second microlens pattern is formed by etching the interlayer dielectric layer on the pixel area using the first microlens pattern as an etch mask. During the etching, a second photoresist pattern, exposing the first microlens pattern, can be used to protect the interlayer dielectric layer on the logic circuit area.

  • Patent number: 8163506
Abstract: Swine Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9)-expressing cells are prepared by cloning a TLR9 gene from swine intestinal Peyer's patches. Functional analysis on CpG DNAs using the above cells revealed that swine TLR9 shows a higher recognition ability for a human CpG DNA motif (CpG2006) than for a mouse-specific CpG DNA motif (CpG1826). When the mRNA expression levels in various tissues are compared by the real-time PCR method, it is found out that the mRNA is expressed in Peyer's patches and mesenteric lymph nodes, which play important roles in the intestinal tract immune system, at a level thrice as much as in spleen or more. Thus, the cells expressing an intestinal tract tissue-expressed TLR (for example, TLR9) can be used to identify samples capable of activating the intestinal tract immune system.

  • Patent number: 8163876
Abstract: The subject invention provides novel amino acid sequences (including a consensus sequence) of the Avian Influenza A virus hemagglutinin protein. These newly constructed genes are designed to provide a broader spectrum of activity across the serotype family thus providing a basis for a vaccine that has broad heterologous disease protection. The novel genes have been further improved by the addition of strategic glycosylation sites into the amino acids sequences that they encode. These genes can also, optionally, be codon optimized for plant expression, inserted into the appropriate vector and cloned into plants for expression. Polypeptides produced by recombinant host cells or transgenic plants can also be used as source of antigen for the formulation of vaccines for the control of influenza in susceptible individuals. Additionally, transgenic plant material may also be used as source of antigen for the formulation of vaccines for the control of influenza in susceptible individuals.

  • Patent number: 8158216
Abstract: Vapor plasma deposition of titanium (Ti) metal onto a substrate forms a structured surface that exhibits enhanced cell attachment properties. Initially deposited round nanoparticulate surface structures develop tentacles with a spine or thorn-like appearance upon continued deposition under special conditions. The density and size of the formed spinulose particles can be controlled by timing the deposition intervals. A significant increase in osteoblast, fibroblast and endothelial cell attachment is observed on Ti spinulose surfaces compared to attachment on nanoparticulate surfaces lacking spinulous nanostructure.
