Patent number: 5798447Abstract: Antibodies against Ins(1,4,5)P.sub.3 were raised by immunizing rabbits with two types of IP.sub.3 -BSA conjugates which were synthesized by covalently coupling Ins(1,4,5)P.sub.3 to the carrier protein via alkyl linkages. The anti-Ins(1,4,5)P.sub.3 antibodies were detected by an ELISA where Ins(1,4,5)P.sub.3 was covalently attached to a microplate well surface. Both antiserum preparations showed specific binding with Ins(1,4,5)P.sub.3. The specificity of these antibodies was enhanced by affinity purification for the antiserum through Ins(1,4,5)P.sub.3 -agarose chromatography. The affinity-purified antibodies have IC.sub.50 values of 12 nM and 73OnM for Ins(1,4,5)P.sub.3 and Ins(1,3,4,5)P.sub.4, respectively. These antibodies showed many properties similar to those of biologically relevant receptors for Ins(1,4,5)P.sub.3.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1996Date of Patent: August 25, 1998Assignee: The Board of Governors for Higher Education State of Rhode Island and Providence PlantationsInventor: Ching-Shih Chen

Patent number: 5794947Abstract: Disclosed is an assembly seal for use in assembly comprising: packing formed in a predetermined shape from an elastic material; a core within the packing for providing substantial rigidity such that can maintain the desired shape of the packing; and a base for supporting the core, the base having substantial rigidity and being connected to the core portion in such a manner that the base can be easily separated from the core by a cutting operation. The assembly seal is used in an assembly method for assembling a plurality of parts into a set of assembled parts incorporating packing. The assembly method comprises the steps of: positioning the assembly seal so that the packing of the assembly seal is positioned at a specified position on one part of a set of assembled parts; separating the base of the assembly seal from the packing; removing the base so that only the packing of the assembly seal is left on said one part; and fitting the other parts of said set of assembled parts to said one part.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1997Date of Patent: August 18, 1998Assignee: Three Bond Co., Ltd.Inventor: Toru Shimizu

Patent number: 5796477Abstract: The present invention relates to novel entangled-photon microscopy, spectroscopy and display systems. The systems include a source of light in the form of twin or multiple entangled-photon beams. The systems also include optical components that direct the twin or multiple entangled-photon beams towards a target material. The target material includes emission or indicator means responsive to an energy, which approximately equals the sum of the energies of the entangled photons. The systems may further include imaging means that is sensitive to the response of the target material. The present invention also relates to novel correlated-photon microscopy, spectroscopy and display systems. The present invention further relates to methods of correlated-photon microscopy in which a pump beam of photons is provided. A portion of the pump beam is split into a first beam and a second beam, the beams having corresponding correlated photons.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1997Date of Patent: August 18, 1998Assignee: Trustees of Boston UniversityInventors: Malvin Carl Teich, Bahaa E. Patent number: 5793070Abstract: A charge transfer device including a semiconductor substrate, a gate electrode provided in association with the substrate, the gate electrode having a corresponding channel region through which charge is propagated, the channel region having a predetermined potential; and means associated with the channel region for reducing charge trapping and recombination effects. In one aspect of the present invention, the reducing means includes a potential pocket defined within the channel region having a greater potential than the predetermined potential of said channel region. The potential pocket has a width dimension which is less than the corresponding width dimension of the channel region. Patent number: 5782873Abstract: Method and system for enhancing the function of sensory cells are disclosed. The method comprises locating a sensory cell area associated with the sensory cell whose function is to be enhanced and inputting a bias signal to the sensory cell area. The apparatus comprises a signal processor for producing a bias signal and an input device for inputting the bias signal to a sensory cell area associated with a sensory cell whose function is to be enhanced. Inputting the bias signal to a sensory cell area effectively lowers the threshold of sensory cells with which the sensory cell area is associated.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1996Date of Patent: July 21, 1998Assignee: Trustees of Boston UniversityInventor: James J. Patent number: 5784492Abstract: A method and system for deconvolution derived from the CLEAN technique. The nonlinear CLEAN method, combined with a priori knowledge of the point spread function allows for extraction and subsequent transmission of the non-redundant information. The point spread function is then treated as the redundancy function. Thus, the data set may be regarded as a convolution of the non-redundant information with the redundancy function. Since the non-redundant data is a small subset of the overall data set, images and/or other data may be transmitted over narrowband channels using the system of this invention. Effective data compression may be further enhanced by using the system of this invention prior to additional compression or encoding techniques based upon the digital data and digital compression techniques.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1995Date of Patent: July 21, 1998Assignee: Trustees of Boston UniversityInventors: Nathan Cohen, Guido Sandri
