  • Patent number: 5754888
Abstract: A disk storage architecture called DCD, Disk Caching Disk, for optimizing I/O performance. The DCD uses a small log disk, referred to as cache-disk, in the range of tens of MB as a secondary disk cache to optimize write performance. While the cache-disk and the normal data disk have the same physical properties, the access speed of the former differs dramatically from the latter because of different data units and different ways in which data are accessed. The objective is to exploit this speed difference by using the log disk as a cache to build a reliable and smooth disk hierarchy.

  • Patent number: 5736757
Abstract: A charge generation device configured within a semiconductor region of a substrate. The device includes a source for providing an input charge and an input diffusion which receives said input charge. A barrier gate associated with the input diffusion determines a selected potential of the input diffusion. A preset diffusion presets the input diffusion to the selected potential. An output element receives the input charge from the input diffusion. A first coupling means is provided for coupling the preset diffusion to the input diffusion subsequent to the output diffusion receiving the input charge during a first clock cycle, and for decoupling the preset diffusion from the input diffusion prior to the input diffusion receiving the input charge during a second clock cycle.

  • Patent number: 5729028
Abstract: An ion accelerator for use in an ion beam implanter. The accelerator forms milliampere beams of heavy ions such as boron and phosphorous in a configuration in which the terminal ion source is replaced by a neutral beam injector. The neutral beam is formed at ground by the conversion of a focused beam of positive ions to neutral ions in a charge exchange canal. The neutral beam so formed is stripped of one or more electrons in a gas or vapor filled canal in the high voltage terminal. A 180.degree. analyzing magnet located in the high voltage terminal analyzes and directs a selected charge state to an acceleration tube parallel to the neutral beam injection tube where the selected positive ions are accelerated to ground potential.
