  • Patent number: 5775305
Abstract: A fuel pump injector for a reciprocating engine having a piston and combustion chamber. The injector comprises a housing having a driving piston slidably received therein. The driving piston is responsive to the pressure in the combustion chamber. A driving cylinder of fuel interfaces with the driving piston and holds the driving piston in place by static pressure. A second smaller diameter driven cylinder of fuel is responsive to the pressure of the driving cylinder. The driving piston statically pressurizes the driving cylinder during the engine's compression stroke. A valve releases the pressure from the driving cylinder to effect fuel injection by transferring the force on the driving piston onto the smaller diameter driven cylinder which injects the atomized fuel into the combustion chamber where it ignites.

  • Patent number: 5772224
Abstract: A vehicle suspension system is provided for tilting a chassis 24 with respect to the axes of vehicle wheels 31 and 32 during cornering to improve the comfort of travel for occupants of the vehicle. A lateral or centrifugal force sensor mounted to the chassis 24 provides a control for a hydraulic pump to cause a piston 15 in a cylinder 14 to move to the left or right. The Figure shows the piston 15 to the left of a mean central position and its movement has caused the chassis to tip to the right. The vehicle in the Figure is shown moving away and to the right. For the corner, the tilt is stable as the sensor will remain balanced, that is not then generating further or extra tilting, until the degree of cornering changes or the vehicle straightens out. In the latter case, the sensor will respond to cause the piston 15 to move to its central position and the chassis to level off.

  • Patent number: 5761270
Abstract: Method and instrument for measuring X-ray radiation, for generating a value representative of the radiation in the form of an electric signal, such that the radiation at the measurement instance is caught by two photo-electric units each receiving the radiation after its passage through filters having mutually different degrees of absorption. The radiation value is computed on the basis of a ratio between the two generated electric signals. Adaptation of the signal intensity to a processing range is made, which constitutes a lesser part of the total intensity range of the signals generated by the radiation, by means of an amplifier device with a variable degree of amplification, by sensing the signal intensity after the amplifier device.

  • Patent number: 5752298
Abstract: A strap assembly for controlling the inward pressure on ear cups (14) mounted on a helmut (10). A rear strap (22) is rotatably secured to the helmut (10). At each end of the rear strap (22) are a pair of opposed buckles tabs (27). Each buckle defines a slot (36). The tabs (27) have a flexbile pawl (48) formed in a movable cover (44). There are a pair of opposed straps (60) having one end secured to the forward portion of the helmut. The other end of the strap (60) passes through the ear cups (14) and through the slots (36) in the buckle tabs. Each of the straps (60) has a ratchet track (64). When the straps (60) are moved toward one another to increase the inward pressure of the associated ear cups (14) the ratchet track slides under and displaces outwardly the pawl (48) in the tabs (27). Reversal movement of the strap (60) is prevented when the cover (44) is in its closed position.
