  • Patent number: 4332364
Abstract: An easel of the type having a generally planar material prop and a support to maintain the prop at a desired attitude. The support includes a plate which is adapted to be releasably affixed to a surface and a hinge formed of first and second members each having a base and extending legs. Each member base is secured to a different one of the prop and plate in a manner which allows a selective relative rotational movement between the base and the associated prop or plate. The axis of rotation is generally perpendicular to the associated one of the prop and plate. The legs are secured to each other in a manner which allows a selective relative pivoting movement of the members about an axis spaced from their bases.

  • Patent number: 4328813
Abstract: A system for anchoring a brain lead within a cranial burr hole while closing that hole. A socket is provided with an aperture defining a lead passage and is engageable with the cranial burr hole to secure the socket to the cranium with the lead passage aperture in general alignment with the burr hole. A plug is configured to cooperate with the socket lead passage aperture for mutual engagement of a lead within the aperture while closing that aperture. In a preferred embodiment, the socket includes a split grommet portion formed of a flexible material that is biased to maintain the grommet split open. The socket aperture has a neck portion of reduced size with the plug being configured to engage that neck portion and resist removal of the plug from the socket aperture. The socket is also provided with a flange surrounding the grommet portion with holes in the flange being engageable by a tool to facilitate closure of the grommet split for insertion of the socket in a cranial burr hole.

  • Patent number: 4325325
Abstract: A self-cleaning animal litter box comprised of an open imperforate container, a superimposed separator on said container and having upstanding wall structure surrounding a centrally disposed screen and abutting the walls of that container in sealing relation, and a second but inverted container having depending wall structure which corresponds in shape but is slightly larger in transverse dimensions than that of the separator and which is superimposed with respect to the separator and first container in sealing relation to form a unit whereby inversion of the unit causes the screen to automatically separate the litter from the animal excrement which may have been deposited thereon.

  • Patent number: 4326125
Abstract: This invention relates to improvements in the functional design of electrical key-like devices and electrical receptacles for use in combination therewith. Electronic circuitry systems, such as computers and other operating circuits, interface with the key-like devices through the receptacle. The keys contain a microelectronic circuit element, e.g., a microelectronic circuit chip or die, having an electrical lead or leads exposed along the length of the key for contacting electrical leads in the receptacle when the key is inserted therein and rotated to a "locked" position. The keys are particularly designed to interface with a processor and program memory system, that is, a computer.

  • Patent number: 4317732
Abstract: A liquid reconditioning system including first and second storage tanks for storing reconditioned liquid and liquid to be reconditioned, respectively. Reconditioned liquid is withdrawn from the first storage tank for use, as required, and returned to the second storage tank. A filter is connected to receive liquid withdrawn from the second tank to filter that liquid and transfer it to the first tank. The present invention detects a condition representative of filter blinding and responds to that condition to automatically regenerate the filter. In a preferred embodiment, the filter is a diatomite filter with filter regeneration being accomplished by mechanical diatomite displacement. A valve at the filter output closes that output during diatomite displacement and then sequentially connects the filter output to the second storage tank, for a predetermined period, and then to the first storage tank.

  • Patent number: 4316473
Abstract: A temperature control system for a syringe contained blood sample. Specifically, the system reduces the temperature of the blood sample to reduce the volatility of the blood gases. A first cylindrical member defines a chamber, the chamber accepting a blood sample containing syringe through an end thereof. A second, concentric cylindrical member cooperates with the first cylindrical member to define a reservoir surrounding the chamber. A heat sink material within the reservoir withdraws heat from the chamber to reduce the temperature of a blood sample within the chamber. In a preferred embodiment, the first and second cylindrical members are formed as integral structures having an end wall extending therebetween. A cap, which may be self-sealing with the two cylindrical members, forms an opposing end wall. Either end wall may function as a support to establish a desired chamber orientation.
