Abstract: A wheel for driving a flexible handrail of an escalator or moving walk turns about an axis of rotation, and has a tire with a tire cover that may be filled with pressurized gas and a contact surface that is intended to rest against the handrail. The contact surface is formed on a power transmission element that has a reinforcing insert and is accommodated in a peripheral recess of the tire cover.
Abstract: A submersible surface-planing vessel has the capability to operate with a lowered profile on surface propulsion to lessen the visibility of the vessel, and sink to the bottom for temporary storage, followed by resurfacing and dewatering to operate as a planing craft. Surface propulsion is provided by an engine system which can be totally sealed when the vessel submerges. A buoyancy system, which may include both open and closed ballast tanks, permit the vessel to sink, refloat or to be of neutral buoyancy as required. The vessel is constructed to maintain the center of buoyancy above the vessel's center of gravity irrespective of the degree of fill of the ballast tanks to maintain the vessel in an upright orientation at all times when under water and transitioning between surface and submerged states.
Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring the alcohol content of an individual, preferably in connection with vehicle operation, has a sensor head coupled to a remote control module. The sensor head measures both breath pressure and breath alcohol levels. The data from the sensor head is processed by the control module to determine whether a valid breath sample exists and what action is to be taken based upon the alcohol level of the breath.
Abstract: An apparatus for moving elevator equipment, particularly an elevator car when stuck in a shaft, comprises a suspension point which is connected to the elevator equipment by an adjustable-height connection. Contrary to the prior art, the suspension point includes a length-adjustable assembly configured for engagement with opposing walls of the shaft or opposing guide rails within the shaft at any chosen location along the shaft. The invention thus provides a localized solution that can be used conveniently at any position within the shaft and is therefore independent of the position, and indeed the presence, of any lifting hooks within the shaft.
Abstract: A compact, portable tablet dispenser is particularly adapted for carrying aspirin tablets for ingestion as therapy upon the onset of a suspected heart attack. The tablets are in a blister within the dispenser, which includes actuators aligned with the tablets to eject the tablets through an aperture in the dispenser. Upon operation, the actuators provide a permanent indication that a tablet has been ejected. The dispenser may include electronic circuitry to provide reinforcement and/or guidance, for its use and may include means for alerting a third party, such as by a 911 call, of its activation.

Abstract: A handrail for an escalator or moving walk that has a fixed guide device and a handrail body that moves along the guide device when in operation is disclosed. The guide device has a form-giving guide section that contains a lip-guide that extends along a longitudinal direction of the guide section. The handrail body is strip-shaped and has two edge-lips that extend along two longitudinal edges of the strip-shaped handrail body. The edge-lips are formed in such manner that they run parallel to the longitudinal direction when the handrail body moves in the lip guide. The guide section essentially defines the form of the handrail in both the direction parallel to the longitudinal direction and in a cross-sectional plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.
Abstract: The invention relates to a detector for determining the position and/or energy of photons and/or charged particles. Said detector comprises a plurality of diodes made of a semi-conductor material, n-contacts (1) and p-contacts (4), the n-contacts being provided by dividing an n-layer into individual segments. Said segments of the n-layer are 20–500 ?m wide. Said detectors are produced by diffusing ions on the side of the semi-conductor material in order to produce an n-contact. A metallic layer is metallized thereon. Trenches are etched between the segments by means of lithography for the segmentation thereof. The inventive detector is high-powered and inter alia enables a high local resolution and high counting rates.

Abstract: An improved escalator or moving walk construction, head elements are pre-assembled as a sub-assembly which is subsequently mounted on the truss of the escalator. The sub-assembly includes comb plate holders, one on each side, which carry a comb plate. The comb plate holder may have a C-shaped profile and may be reinforced by stiffening ribs so as to be able to bear the weight of the end-curve of a balustrade. By means of supports arranged on the truss, the height of the comb plate carrier can be adjusted to that of the truss. During pre-assembly, and until after final mounting on the truss, the comb plate serves as a connecting element between comb plate holders.

Abstract: A pliable handle for a hand-held device is provided. The handle includes a tubular core member, a deformable outer sheath disposed about the tubular core member, a gel disposed between the tubular core member and the outer sheath, and first and second sealers inserted into respective ends of the tubular core member and sealing the gel between the tubular core member and the outer sheath, wherein a force applied to the outer sheath causes load movement of the gel.

Abstract: A cleaning unit for cleaning travel equipment allows the travel equipment to be shifted from an operating mode to a cleaning mode. The cleaning equipment is an escalator or a moving walkway which has tread units connected with an endless conveyor. The cleaning unit can be mounted as a substitute for a tread unit of the travel equipment during a cleaning sequence and includes cleaning elements. The travel equipment can be shifted from an operating mode to a cleaning mode in which the cleaning equipment is substituted for one or more tread units and the travel equipment operated whereby a cleaning sequence is performed. After cleaning is performed, the equipment is stopped, the cleaning equipment removed, and the removed treads reinstalled.
Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for selecting, displaying, managing, tracking and transferring access to content of Internet web pages and other sources has programming permitting a user to create custom selections of selected image, animation, movie and text content items, and other types of content items from web pages or other sources from the same or different network sources containing multiple content items in an independent, resizable, rescalable browser window; permitting the user to transfer access to the custom selection of content items to a recipient; permitting the user or recipient to navigate quickly to a source of a content item in the custom selection; and permitting the user to define search keywords for performing searches related to content items in a custom selection; and other features. A method of tracking viewing and sharing activities of content items and custom selections of content items by users and recipients is also disclosed.

Abstract: An escalator with steps having a tread surface and riser surface has riser brushes arranged at the riser surface. The riser brushes provide a barrier for the gap which is normally present between the tread surface of a first step and the riser surface of an adjacent step. The riser brushes may be mounted to a brush strip which is guided along the riser as the steps transfer between vertical and horizontal travel.
Abstract: An improved handbag or the like having one entire side wall formed of a see-through panel which can be selectively exposed to permit facilitated viewing of items contained therein. The see-through panel is joined to an opaque panel to form a receptacle with an access opening at the top. An exterior cover panel of opaque material is removably positioned in covering relation to the see-through panel and at least partially separably attached to the bag structure, allowing the cover panel to be displaced from covering relation to enable facilitated viewing of personal affects through the see-through panel for easy selection and removal.
