  • Patent number: 8299953
Abstract: A message transmitting signal comprised of a sequence of high level and low level pulses arranged to provide a message, such as the IR bit pattern output by a remote control device, is analysed. Distinct durations during which pulses are at a high level are formed into a first table and distinct durations during which the pulses are at low level are formed into a second table. An index is linked to the first and second tables, the index identifying the order, level and distinct duration of the pulses in the signal. The index can be categorised to identify the protocol of the message and can be used to recognise protocols and, in a universal remote control device, to generate message transmitting signals.

  • Patent number: 8301282
Abstract: In order to reproduce audio signals which have been compressed or encoded for storage or transmission using, for example, MPEG audio encoding, a synthesis sub-band filter is employed which performs an inverse modified discrete cosine transform. The computational cost of the IMDCT implementation is reduced by pre-calculating arrays of sum and difference data. The arrays of sum and difference data are then used in two separate transform calculations, the results of which can be used in the generation of pulse code modulation audio data.

  • Patent number: 8295483
Abstract: A mobile terminal device, a wireless communication unit, a wireless communication system, and a wireless communication method by which 1:N communication can be realized at low power consumption and a CH occupation time can be shortened. After each terminal transmits an authorization request, it performs a carrier sense with the pattern corresponding to the transmission timing and waits for authorization response from a key unit (200). The key unit (200) transmits the authorization response at the timing when the carrier sense timings of a plurality of terminals which are authenticated in response to the authorization request from the terminal are coincident with each other. Accordingly, the key unit (200) performs transmission only to the authenticated terminals at one time, and 1:N communication can be realized at low power consumption.

  • Patent number: 8291597
Abstract: A folding knife includes a handle having a blade channel, a blade rotatably coupled to the handle, and annular blade seals coupled to either side of the blade between the blade and inner surfaces of the blade channel. A locking mechanism having first and second control pins coupled to the blade within the circumference of the blade seal so as to extend toward the first handle element. A lock plate is movably coupled to the handle and engages the first and second control pins when the blade is in the open and closed positions, respectively. A release knob coupled to the lock plate allows a user to move the lock plate to release the blade. A seal positioned between the release knob and the handle seals a space between the release knob and the handle.

  • Patent number: 8295640
Abstract: An automatic data collection device (10) and method reads images from display screen (22) of an electronic display device (24), such as a cellular telephone. The method reads a flashing image of a target machine-readable symbol (12) displayed on the display screen, by obtaining at least two images of the display screen. In the first image, the image of the target machine-readable symbol is present. In the second image, the image of the target machine-readable symbol (12) is absent. The second image of the display screen, when the image of the target machine-readable symbol is absent, comprises noise and other images that are irrelevant to the decoding process. This noise in the second image is subtracted from the first image of the display screen having the image of the target machine-readable symbol displayed thereon the symbol. A resulting image from the image subtraction is an improved image of the target machine-readable symbol.

  • Patent number: 8293598
Abstract: A bipolar selection transistor and a circuitry MOS transistor for a memory device are formed in a semiconductor body. The bipolar selection transistor is formed by implanting a buried collector, implanting a base region on the buried collector, forming a silicide protection mask on the semiconductor body, and implanting an emitter region and a control contact region. The circuitry MOS transistor is formed by defining a gate on the semiconductor body, forming lateral spacers on the sides of the gate and implanting source and drain regions on the sides of the lateral spacers. Then, a silicide region is formed on the emitter, base contact, source and drain regions and the gate, in a self-aligned way. The lateral spacers are multilayer structures including at least two different layers, one of which is used to form the silicide protection mask on the bipolar selection transistor. Thereby, the dimensions of the lateral spacers are decoupled from the thickness of the silicide protection mask.

  • Patent number: 8294291
Abstract: There is provided a turbine for a hydroelectric power installation. The turbine has a rotor with a plurality of blades, with the rotor being arranged in front of a guide apparatus (in the flow direction). The pitch angle of the blades of the rotor is adapted to be variable. As the rotor is arranged in front of the guide apparatus (in the flow direction) the flow meets the rotor first and only thereafter meets the guide apparatus, thus affording optimum flow conditions for the rotor.
