  • Patent number: 8285510
Abstract: Objects such as manufactured goods or articles, works of art, media such as identity documents, legal documents, financial instruments, transaction cards, other documents, and/or biological tissue are sampled via sequential illumination in various bands of the electromagnetic spectrum, a test response to the illumination is analyzed with respect to reference responses of reference objects. The sequence may be varied. The sequence may define an activation order, a drive level and/or temperature for operating one or more sources. Illumination may be in visible, infrared, ultraviolet, or other portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Elements of the evaluation system may be remote from one another, for example coupled by a network.

  • Patent number: 8282510
Abstract: One embodiment of the present baseball training bat is comprised of a hollow tube with a handle portion and a knob attached at the proximal end. A hitting portion is attached at the distal end of the tube that provides two elongated, opposed striking surfaces that are narrower than the striking surface of a conventional baseball bat, and are offset from the axis for improving swing accuracy and wrist control. The relative weights of the components combine to produce a training bat that is substantially similar in overall weight and balance to a conventional baseball bat. The face of each narrow striking surface is substantially similar in convexity to the striking surface of a conventional baseball bat, thereby providing a familiar feel and sound to the hitter when used to hit a ball.

  • Patent number: 8285034
Abstract: An object evaluation system may determine a value for a stack of objects that appear in a pixelated color image. To determine the value of the stack of objects, the evaluation system preprocess at least a portion of the pixelated color image to produce a set of two color contour data, processes the two color contour data to identify a location of a top and a bottom of the stack (if any), and locates, for each of the objects in the stack, a respective set of color pixels from the pixelated color image corresponding to each object based on the identified locations of the top and bottom of the stack. Each of the objects in the stack are then classified into a color classification based on the object's respective set of color pixels, and the value of the object is determined based on a known correspondence between the color classification and a value. The cumulative value of the stack is determined by summing the determined values for each of the objects in the stack.

  • Patent number: 8283657
Abstract: A sensor and/or actuator system in which functional circuitry is embedded in an all organic electromechanical transducer device is disclosed. The electromechanical transducer device exploits the behavior of a flexible sensible ionomeric material sheet as effective sensing or actuating member sandwiched between flexible organic electrodes when undergoing a deformation or being polarized at a certain drive voltage applied to the, electrodes, respectively. The completely embedded all organic system is realized with a process exploiting relatively low cost deposition and patterning techniques. The enhanced flexibility makes the all organic device suitable for new applications in fields ranging from biomedical to aerospace industry.

  • Patent number: 8280421
Abstract: A terminal device free of interference between an RACH and a PUSCH or the like even when a base station device with a large coverage is installed. In the device, a configuration number extraction unit (103) extracts a configuration number from a BCH received by a BCH reception unit (102). A control unit (104) determines the corresponding RACH format (the necessity of repetition, the CP length TCP, the second preamble length TPRE2, and the GT length TGT) according to the configuration number, notifies a repetition unit (109) of the result of the judgment of necessity of repetition, notifies the repetition unit (109) of the second preamble length TPRE2, notifies a CP addition unit (110) of the CP length TCP, and notifies a GT addition unit (112) of the GT length TGT. When the repetition unit (109) receives the notification of performing the repetition, it performs the repetition according to the second preamble length received from a TPRE2 determination section (154).

  • Patent number: 8276172
Abstract: A lifting frame has a lifting pin that fits into a lifting cam groove of a follower slider, and swings up and down about a rod near a disk slot. A holding member is swingably attached to front end of the lifting frame. This holding member supports a turntable unit for holding a disk. The holding member has a cam follower pin that fits into a swinging cam groove of a loading slider to raise and lower the holding member. When the lifting frame swings down from a read/write position to a lowered position, the holding member inclines from the lifting frame so as to place the turntable unit substantially parallel to a disk carrying direction.

  • Patent number: 8275540
Abstract: Techniques are described for generating predictions of future traffic conditions at multiple future times, such as by using probabilistic techniques to assess various input data while repeatedly producing future time series predictions for each of numerous road segments (e.g., in a real-time manner based on changing current conditions for a network of roads in a given geographic area). In some situations, one or more predictive Bayesian models and corresponding decision trees are automatically created for use in generating the future traffic condition predictions for each geographic area of interest, such as based on observed historical traffic conditions for those geographic areas. Predicted future traffic condition information may then be used in a variety of ways to assist in travel and for other purposes, such as to plan optimal routes through a network of roads based on predictions about traffic conditions for the roads at multiple future times.

  • Patent number: 8275021
Abstract: Provided is a radio communication device which can suppress inter-code interference between an ACK/NACK signal and a CQI signal which are code-multiplexed. A diffusion unit (214) diffuses the ACK/NACK signal inputted from a judgment unit (208) by using a ZC sequence. A diffusion unit (219) diffuses the CQI signal by using a cyclic shift ZC sequence. By using a Walsh sequence, a diffusion unit (216) further diffuses the ACK/NACK signal which has been diffused by using the ZC sequence. A control unit (209) controls the diffusion unit (214), the diffusion unit (216), and the diffusion unit (219) so that the minimum value of the difference between the CQI signals from a plurality of mobile stations and a cyclic shift amount of the ACK/NACK signal is not smaller than the minimum value of the difference between the cyclic shift amounts of the ACK/NACK signals from the plurality of mobile stations.
