Patent number: 7475473Abstract: In a method for joining at least two plate-shaped workpieces by a fastening tool and a device for operating the fastening tool, the fastening tool comprises a punch for exerting a punch force to perform a joining operation and a clamp for exerting a clamping force upon the workpieces at the joining area. During the joining operation the punch exerts a high punch force to perform the joining operation and the clamp exerts substantially no clamping force to allow for free material deformation in the joining area. After the joining operation both the punch and the clamp exert high forces at the same time to reduce any material deformations of the workpieces and to provide for compression of the workpieces in the joining area. Preferably the invention is used in a riveting tool for setting self-piercing rivets; as an alternative it may be used in a clinching tool.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2005Date of Patent: January 13, 2009Assignee: Bollhoff Verbindungstechnik GmbHInventors: Hans Jörg Lang, Torsten Draht

Patent number: 7467293Abstract: A computing system based on Transparence Computing consists of clients and a server. There is no disk and no preinstalled OS on the client; a remote booting chip is set on the client's mainboard for downloading and loading the OS. Boot-supporting services, OS kernel mirrors, and applications are preset on the server; After being powered, the client broadcasts the boot request to the network and the server allocates network parameters for it. The client downloads an OS-selecting script from the server. After the user selects the needed OS, the client downloads and loads the selected OS from the server. Hence, the client fulfills the user's computing requirements just as a normal PC. The computing work is implemented on the client-side, during which the client can acquire corresponding resources such as applications, data, and documents from the server on demand.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2005Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: Tsinghua UniversityInventors: Yaoxue Zhang, Guangbin Xu, Li Wei, Huajie Yang, Yuezhi Zhou, Guanfei Guo, Wenyuan Kuang

Patent number: 7462103Abstract: A system controls access to plural devices with only four lines by grouping the devices in nodes, each node including a predetermined number of the devices and a local control circuit defining a shift register with positions respectively connected to the devices. The nodes are connected in series with a host controller, to form a system shift register. The nodes are serially addressed by a serial data message from a DATA OUT line of the host controller, which message includes M×N data bits followed by a strobe indicator, where N is the number of nodes and M is the number of devices at each node. All controllers are connected to a V+ line and a COMMON line and a RETURN line. The system register forms a fourth line, with one end connected to the host controller DATA OUT terminal and the other end connectable to the RETURN line.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2001Date of Patent: December 9, 2008Assignee: IGTInventors: Harold Mattice, Richard Wilder, Theodore Gail

Patent number: 7448660Abstract: A pair of locking kitchen tongs for use in handling food items and the like is disclosed. The tongs have a pair of rigid steel arms each having a workpiece engaging or grasping end, a body portion and a pivot end from which the arms are pivotally connected together. The grasping ends are preferably scalloped along one edge, for handling relatively large items, and serrated (i.e., fine-toothed) along another edge, for handling of smaller or fine items. A bulbous, tear-shaped body made from a rigid, non-metal material encapsulates the pivot ends of the two arms as they are pivotally connected together to permit movement between an open position and a closed position. Also within and coupled to the encapsulating body is a sliding locking plate. The locking plate has a body defining a slot which allows the locking plate to slide between a locked position, maintaining the arms in their closed position, and an unlocked position, allowing them free pivoting movement.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2005Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignee: Helen of Troy LimitedInventors: Shunji Yamanaka, Hisato Ogata, Eugene Kaneko
