  • Patent number: 4285328
Abstract: A heater which burns agricultural waste as its heat source includes a combustion chamber for the waste having a bottom opening, a grate for supporting the waste, an access lid at the top and an air intake at or adjacent the top. The bottom opening is connected to an exhaust system which includes a fan for creating a downward draft in the combustion chamber causing the exhaust gas stream to leave the chamber at the bottom opening. The exhaust system also includes elements for the removal of solid combustion products from the exhaust stream and for regulating the temperature of the exhaust stream which is then usable for heating purposes.

  • Patent number: 4285453
Abstract: A wire insertion apparatus particularly for forming presses and the like comprising at least one pair of insertion rollers between which a wire or rod is periodically advanced by a predetermined insertion length, a crank and connecting rod mechanism connecting at least one of the insertion rollers to a drive shaft for producing a periodic angular movement of the insertion rollers, the mechanism comprising an intermediate lever member pivotally mounted on an axis, first and second linkage rods connecting the intermediate member respectively with an eccentric on the drive shaft and an eccentric mounted on one of the insertion rollers so that rotation of the drive shaft produces angular movement of the insertion roller in response to pivotal motion of the intermediate lever member, and means for shifting the pivot point of one of the linkage rods so as to change the distance between the pivot axis and that rod and thereby change the degree of angular movement of the insertion rollers.

  • Patent number: 4285893
Abstract: In the course of this method, an amount of expansible mixture is poured into a mould, after which the mould is obturated by means of a plug. A vacuum is created in the chamber of the mould by way of the plug so as to cause the foaming of the mixture. The vacuum is maintained for a period after the foamable mixture has filled the whole of the volume of the mould. At the end of the polymerization of the foamable mixture, the vacuum may be re-applied in the mould, preferably for several cycles, so as to cause the cells of the foam obtained to burst.

  • Patent number: 4277858
Abstract: A piece of furniture for sitting and lying, more particularly a sickbed, having a horizontal surface divided into head, central and foot portions. A stationary frame extends at least the length of the central portion and the head and foot portions are pivotally mounted on the stationary frame about horizontal axes so they may be adjusted to horizontal and inclined positions by shifting the weight of the user's body and can be fixedly positioned by locking devices. A spring device, such as a torsion spring, equalizes the weight of the user on the head portion and the spring device is adjustable to control the initial stress applied to the head portion. The central portion is pivotally connected to the head portion through a connection that allows for end play and provides for leverage so that as the head portion is shifted to an inclined position, the central portion automatically moves to a proper reverse sloping position to accommodate sitting.

  • Patent number: 4270631
Abstract: Modular caliper brake having a body formed of a minimum number of separate modular portions or elements which are bolted together to form a basic unit of minimum capacity. To accomodate larger capacity applications, similar or compatible elements can be added, thus simplifying manufacturing and stocking of components for brake assemblies of differing capacities. Brake body has a pair of generally similar outer yoke elements, a spacer element sandwiched between the outer yoke elements and a mounting element cooperating with at least one of the elements mounting the brake. The outer yoke elements have spaced outer yoke arms to journal the caliper arms thereon. Several tie bolts cooperate with the elements to secure the elements together.

  • Patent number: 4265471
Abstract: There is disclosed a pipe joint comprising a first pipe having an end portion engaged as a snug fit in a concentric end portion of a second pipe. The pipes have, at positions spaced from their adjacent ends, external annular ribs with corresponding internal annular grooves, an annular seal being accommodated in the annular groove of the outer pipe between the outer pipe and the inner pipe.A clamping ring which spans the annular ribs of the two pipes comprises two arcuate parts connected end to end by a hinge and having at their ends remote from the hinge outwardly turned edge formations which are received in a wedge-shaped channel member and engage relatively inclined opposing side walls of the channel member. The clamping ring can simply be closed around the pipe joint by relative pivoting of the two arcuate parts and can be retained by sliding the wedging member, in a direction parallel with the axis of the pipe joint, over the edge formations at the ends of the arcuate parts remote from the hinge.
