  • Patent number: 4081427
Abstract: This invention relates to a process of reformulating a solvent polyester-type resin, such as employed in electrical insulation, for example in wire enamels, to a solventless polyester-type wire resin of similar properties which is characterized by increasing the relative hydroxy-functionality of said polyester-type resin as compared to the hydroxy-functionality of a corresponding solvent-type wire resin. In the preferred embodiment the increased hydroxy-functionality, in whole or in part, is derived from the use of, or the increased content, of tris(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate. The polyester-type wire enamels include polyesters and polyesters containing other groups such as polyester-amides, polyester-imides, polyester-amide-imides, etc. By doing this, resins having the desired properties as well as viscosities suitable for wire insulation can be made and applied in solventless systems.

  • Patent number: 4075291
Abstract: Pyrophosphates, containing both oxygen and sulfur, of the formula ##STR1## where X is oxygen or sulfur such as those of the formula ##STR2## where R is other than a lower alkyl group (i.e. containing less than seven carbon atoms) and preferably a higher alkyl (i.e. at least six carbons), phenol, etc., and most preferably an oxyalkylated radical. Pyrophosphates are prepared by reacting P.sub.2 S.sub.5 with the appropriate alcohol and continuing the reaction to convert the O,O-disubstituted dithiophosphoric acid initially formed to the pyrophosphate. The resulting product usually contains the O,O-disubstituted dithiophosphoric acid in addition to the pyrophosphate. The pyrophosphate, or mixture of the pyrophosphate with the O,O-disubstituted dithiophosphoric acid, is particularly useful as a corrosion inhibitor in oxygenated and/or aqueous systems as well as for other uses, etc.

  • Patent number: 4065373
Abstract: A hydrogen patch cell for measuring hydrogen atoms produced in the corrosion of ferrous metals. The cell mounts on the diffusion side of a ferrous wall being penetrated by hydrogen atoms and comprises a body having a cavity enclosed by an insulating impervious material. An electrolyte in the cavity provides an environment for the conversion of hydrogen atoms to ions. An end portion of the body carries a fluid-tight seal to the ferrous wall. An inert barrier within the body adjacent the end portion interposes between the cavity and the ferrous wall, adjacent to the wall. The barrier is permeable to hydrogen atoms but impermeable with respect to the electrolyte. A coupling material fills the void between the barrier and the ferrous wall and this material is inert but permeable to hydrogen atoms. Electrodes on the body connect to external circuitry for the electrochemical conversion of hydrogen atoms to ions which enter the electrolyte.
