  • Patent number: 8259296
Abstract: An optical metrology system collects spectral data while scanning over the focal range. The spectral data is evaluated to determine a plurality of peak intensity values for wavelengths in the spectra. The peak intensities are then combined to form the measured spectrum for the sample, which can then be used to determine the sample properties of interest. In one embodiment, the peak intensity is determined based on the measured maximum intensity and a number n of intensity values around the measured maximum intensity, e.g., using curve fitting. If desired, the number n may be varied as a function of wavelength to vary the effective spot size of the metrology system while optimizing noise performance. The peak intensity may also be derived as the measured maximum intensity or through a statistical analysis.

  • Patent number: 8261002
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a unique capability of implementing a pair of pseudo-PHY interfaces using a bridge. From the host and device perspectives, the host and device communicate through a PHY interface. The bridge, however, avoids actually using a USB PHY interface. This PHY-less bridge allows communication between a host and a device at high speeds without high-power transceivers associated with a USB PHY interface. In accordance with the present invention, a host and a device may be coupled together using a PHY-less bridge using the same interface or translating between different interfaces by using a wrapper. Such PHY-less bridges include a UTMI-to-UTMI bridge, a UTMI-to-ULPI bridge, a ULPI-to-UTMI bridge and a ULPI-to-ULPI bridge, each avoiding the need for a USB PHY interface.

  • Patent number: 8259297
Abstract: An optical metrology system collects data while scanning over the focal range. The data is evaluated to determine a peak intensity value from the data. In one embodiment, only data from one side of the peak value is used. The characteristic of the sample is determined based on the peak value. In one embodiment, monochromatic light is used. In another embodiment, polychromatic light is used and peak intensity values for a plurality of wavelengths are determine and combined to form a measured spectrum for the sample, which can then be used to determine the sample properties of interest. In one embodiment, the peak intensity is determined using curve fitting.

  • Patent number: 8253897
Abstract: A multi-domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display that does not require physical features on the substrate (such as protrusions and ITO slits) is disclosed. Each pixel of the MVA LCD is subdivided into color components, which are further divided into color dots. The polarities of the color dots are arranged so that fringe fields in each color dots causes multiple liquid crystal domains in each color dot. Specifically, the color dots of a pixel are arranged so that each color dot of a first polarity has four neighboring pixels of a second polarity. Thus, a checkerboard pattern of polarities is formed. Furthermore, the checkerboard pattern is extended across multiple pixels in the MVA LCD. In addition, many display unit include multiple pixel designs to improve color distribution or electrical distribution. Furthermore, many display units interleave the pixels.

  • Patent number: 8248170
Abstract: A stabilized quadrature oscillator providing consistently high signal quality is disclosed. The stabilized quadrature oscillator includes an iterative quadrature oscillator and a quadrature signal stabilizer. The iterative quadrature oscillator generates an iterative cosine signal and an iterative sine signal using a stabilized cosine signal and a stabilized sine signal from the quadrature signal stabilizer. The quadrature signal stabilizer generates the stabilized cosine signal and the stabilized sine signal based on an energy measure of the iterative cosine signal and the iterative sine signal. Specifically, if the energy measure is less than a low threshold then the quadrature signal stabilizer generates the stabilized sine signal and the stabilized cosine signal to have a greater magnitude than the iterative sine signal and the iterative cosine signal, respectively.

  • Patent number: 8232817
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and apparatus that enable characterization of an electrical property of a semiconductor specimen, e.g., dopant concentration of a near-surface region of the specimen. In exemplary method, a target depth for measurement is selected. This thickness may, for example, correspond to a nominal production thickness of a thin active device region of the specimen. A light is adjusted to an intensity selected to characterize a target region of the specimen having a thickness no greater than the target depth and a surface of the specimen is illuminated with the light. An AC voltage signal induced in the specimen by the light is measured and this AC voltage may be used to quantify an aspect of the electrical property, e.g., to determine dopant concentration, of the target region.

  • Patent number: 8220971
Abstract: A light emitting diode module is produced using at least one light emitting diode (LED) and at least two selectable components that form or are part of a light mixing chamber that surrounds the LEDs and includes an output port. A first selectable component has a first type of wavelength converting material with a first wavelength converting characteristic and a second selectable component has a second type of wavelength converting material with a different wavelength converting characteristic. The first and second wavelength converting characteristics alter the spectral power distribution of the light produced by the LED to produce light through the output port that has a color point that is a predetermined tolerance from a predetermined color point. Moreover, a set of LED modules may be produced such that each LED module has the same color point within a predetermined tolerance.

  • Patent number: 8209353
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a paging operation on a tree having a plurality of nodes is provided. A preorder number and a subtree size are maintained in a machine-readable medium for each of the plurality of nodes of the tree. The preorder number associated with a particular node of the tree identifies a position for the particular node in a depth-first search ordering of the plurality of nodes of the tree. The subtree size associated with a particular node of the tree identifies a count of all the nodes in a subtree rooted at the particular node. In response to receiving a request to perform a paging operation on the plurality of nodes of the tree, a set of nodes that satisfy the paging operation may be determined using the preorder number and the subtree size associated with each node of the tree.

  • Patent number: 8204875
Abstract: A computer is programmed to accept a command to create a new aggregation defined by a user during execution of continuous queries on streams of data. The computer is further programmed to thereafter accept and process new continuous queries using the new aggregation, in a manner similar to built-in aggregations. The user typically writes a set of instructions to perform the new aggregation, and identifies in the command, a location of the set of instructions. In response to such a command, the computer creates metadata identifying the new aggregation. The metadata is used to instantiate one aggregation for each group of data in a current window, grouped by an attribute identified in a new query.

  • Patent number: 8194200
Abstract: Displays using a low cost method to implement switching element point inversion driving schemes while using integrated circuits that are designed to implement switching element row inversion or switching element column driving schemes are described. In one display, a first color dot is on a first side of a control line and a second color dot is on a second side of the control line. A first switching element is coupled to the first control line and the first color dot and a second switching element is coupled to the second color dot and the control line. Thus the control line controls color dots on two different rows or two different columns.
