Abstract: A blood stream adjuster is arranged inside a blood vessel for bypass made of autologous blood vessel, artificial blood and so on when the blood vessel for bypass is transplanted between two blood vessels of the human body. The blood stream adjuster comprises a stricture portion which is located at its axis direction center part and has a smaller inside diameter in comparison with the inside diameters of axis direction both ends. The inside diameter of the stricture portion is set so that quantity, velocity or pressure of blood stream will be suitable for the blood vessel with which the side to receive blood stream in the blood vessel for bypass is anastomosed. Hereby, the occurrence of stricture and obstruction is restrained around the anastomotic portion between the blood vessel for bypass and its anastomotic blood vessel.
Abstract: An engine control system computes an average value for an air-to-fuel feedback control based on which the amount of fuel vapors trapped in a canister, a purge air flow rate on the basis of a pressure difference between before and after a canister purge valve and a duty ratio at which the canister purge valve is activated, the amount of purged fuel vapors on the basis of the estimated trapped fuel vapor amount and purge air flow rate based on which the amount of fuel vapors entering into the combustion chamber. During execution of a canister purge, the purged gas flow rate is gradually varied toward a target rate so as to prevent the air-to-fuel feedback control from encountering disturbances.
Abstract: A lock-up control system for a fluid coupling, interposed between an engine and automatic transmission, which includes a lock-up clutch and is locked up by the lock-up clutch so as to directly couple the engine and the automatic transmission together, sets an increase rate, at which a locking pressure increases during locking of said fluid coupling, small at an early stage of locking and large at a later stage of locking.
Abstract: The star occluder includes a frame formed from a first plurality of arms extending radially in a first plane and a second plurality of arms extending radially in a second plane which is spaced from and substantially parallel to the first plane. Loop joinder legs extend between the base ends of the first and second arms, and a first membrane sheet is supported by and extends over the first plurality of arms while a second membrane sheet is supported by and extends over the second group of arms. The frame is somewhat flexible when expanded so that the loop joinder legs expand into contact with the periphery of a septal defect and determine the size to which the frame will expand.

Abstract: An image sensor device comprising a gate electrode provided on an insulating surface, a gate insulating film provided on the gate electrode, an active region, provided on the gate insulating film, for generating a carrier upon light irradiation, and doped regions provided with the active region between the doped regions. The optical carrier generated in the active region by light irradiation to the active region flows between the doped regions as current. The light irradiation can be deleted from this current with a high sensitivity.

Abstract: Regions 106 which can be regarded as being monocrystalline are formed locally by irradiating with laser light, and at least the channel-forming region 112 is constructed using these regions. With thin-film transistors which have such a construction it is possible to obtain characteristics which are similar to those which employ monocrystals. Further, by connecting in parallel a plurality of such thin-film transistors it is possible to obtain characteristics which are effectively equivalent to those of a monocrystalline thin-film transistor in which the channel width has been increased.

Abstract: An embossing apparatus and method which provides a better embossed appearance and eliminates undesired roughness on the backside of the web material. Two plies are multilevel embossed between rigid engraved rolls and backup rolls, which may be either engraved or smooth. One rigid roll has embossing elements of varying heights and perforation elements, which run in a side-by-side relationship with the corresponding perforation elements on the opposing rigid roll in a nip region of the apparatus. The multiple plies are perforation bonded between the perforation elements, which are preferably the two highest elements, thus reinforcing the other multi-level embossed pattern formed in between the perforation bonds. The embossed patterns impart a quilt-like contoured appearance to the finished product.
Abstract: A color coating composition is applied on a primer coating layer on a work to form an intercoating layer, and the intercoating layer is dried. A color coating composition of a predetermined color is applied on the intercoating layer to form thereon a color base layer, and a coating composition containing therein a lustering material is applied on the color base layer by wet-on-wet system to form thereon a lustering material base layer. A clear coating composition is applied on the lustering material base layer to form a clear layer. Then the coating films thus obtained are dried. The color of the color coating composition for forming the intercoating layer is equal to or resembles that of the color coating composition for forming the color base layer.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for disease, injury or condition screening or sensing wherein biopotentials are received from a plurality of measuring sensors located in the area of a suspected disease, injury or condition change site. These potentials are then processed and the processed values are provided to a particular type of neural network or a combination of neural networks uniquely adapted to receive and analyze data of an identifiable type to provide an indication of specific conditions.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring biopotentials at a test site on a human or animal subject and determining therefrom the existence or status of a condition at such test site. The efficacy of treatment of a condition is monitored by comparing values obtained from biopotentials taken before treatment with those obtained during or after treatment. For disease diagnosis or screening, values obtained from biopotential measurements taken during a test period are processed in a neural network which has been programmed to recognize potential value patterns indicative of a disease condition.
Abstract: A lift valve communicating with a compression chamber of a variable capacity screw compressor is set forth including a valve housing, a piston reciprocally received within the valve housing, a shaft having a first end connected to the piston and a second end extending from the housing. The valve further includes a valve element connected to the second end of the shaft having a valve surface exposed to the compression chamber and a reciprocation mechanism for reciprocating the piston within the housing. The reciprocation mechanism includes a first pressure passage communicating with the housing adjacent a side of the piston, and a second pressure passage communicating with the housing adjacent and opposed side of the piston, wherein the valve surface is positively displaced toward and away from the compression chamber of the variable capacity screw compressor in response to the application of fluid pressure to at least one of the first and second pressure passages to vary the capacity of the screw compressor.

Abstract: An adjustable handle of feeding bottle for infants and children comprises two grips each having at least one first collar integrally formed thereon, said grips being slidingly disposed between an attachment, e.g. a cover or a securing ring, and a body of the feeding bottle, wherein said grips each further comprise a second collar formed thereon and a kink sized and spaced to receive a peripheral wall of an opposite second collar. Abstract: A method for producing a magnesium light alloy product. In order to enhance formability in plastically forming a magnesium alloy material and obtain high tensile strength and high proof stress in the final product, the magnesium alloy material is cast by using molten magnesium alloy containing strontium of 0.02 to 0.5 weight percent and then plastically formed into a magnesium light alloy product in set shape.
Abstract: A process for forming a steel shuttering frame for a building with a reinforced concrete structure. The process includes the following steps: (1) setting up a supporting stand for the shuttering frame, (2) mounting shutter plates for forming a floor portion of the building on a top of the supporting stand, (3) mounting inside shutter plates for forming inner surfaces of side walls of the building on sides of the supporting stand, (4) mounting outside shutter plates for forming outer surfaces of the side walls of the building around the inside shutter plates, and (5) fixedly connecting the inside and outside shutter plates together while keeping them separated from each other a predetermined distance equal to the thickness of the side walls of the building.
Abstract: The invention is a detector for detection of concealed explosives, drugs and contraband using x-rays imaging and powder pattern techniques and ultrasonics. In case of inspection of carry-on baggage a combination of computer-aided x-ray transmission imaging and x-ray diffraction analysis is used to screen; confirm and localize threats. The x-ray transmission is used to segregate dense baggage and cargo which are inspected by x-ray backscatter imaging to identify suspicious objects. All suspicious objects are carefully analyzed by x-ray diffraction. In another embodiment a slow processing system uses diffraction for identification of threats and x-ray radiography for localization of the objects. In case of drugs concealed in compartments aboard marine vessels or air crafts a hand-held x-ray system is disclosed which can be used in three modes of operation: x-ray transmission, x-ray backscatter, or x-ray diffraction dependent on the architecture of the compartment.

Abstract: Method of forming a crystalline silicon film having excellent characteristics. An amorphous silicon film is formed on a substrate having an insulating surface. The amorphous film is thermally annealed at 400.degree.-620.degree. C., preferably at 520.degree.-620.degree. C., more preferably at 550.degree.-600.degree. C., for 1-12 hours. The silicon film is crystallized to a crystallinity of 0.1-99.9%, preferably 1-99%. Then, the silicon film is irradiated with UV laser radiation. Thus, the crystallinity of the silicon film is improved in a short time. Crystalline silicon films having uniform characteristics are obtained.
