  • Patent number: 6009322
Abstract: A method in a telecommunications network having a configuration management system, of automatically populating a Private Numbering Plan (PNP) subscription with PNP data. The method begins by defining a group comprising a plurality of members who subscribe to a PNP service, and automatically generating the PNP data for each of the plurality of group members when the group is defined. The PNP data may be generated by service management application software in the configuration management system. The PNP data may include in abbreviated number for each of the plurality of group members. The abbreviated numbers may be generated by several methods including incremental number generation, random number generation, or by extracting the last "X" digits of each group member's telephone number. The method then determines whether each generated abbreviated number is valid and unique. A network operator may override an automatically generated number by manually inputting an abbreviated number which is valid and unique.

  • Patent number: 5999814
Abstract: A method of handling oscillating mobile station handoffs between cells in a cellular telecommunications network. The method comprises the steps of detecting whether a mobile station (MS) is exhibiting an oscillating handoff pattern, determining whether the MS's signal strength with the MS's serving cell is above a safe signal strength threshold, and inhibiting handoffs of the MS upon determining that the signal strength is above the safe signal strength threshold. The oscillating handoff pattern is detected by first detecting a sequence of handoffs of the MS in which the number of handoffs is twice the number of cells involved in the handoffs, measuring an inter-handoff time period between each handoff in the sequence, and determining whether each inter-handoff time period is less than a first threshold value.

  • Patent number: 5995848
Abstract: A method and system of completing calls to busy mobile subscribers in a radio telecommunications network. The system includes a gateway mobile switching center (G-MSC) to provide switching functions to a mobile station (MS) in a home service area, a home location register (HLR) providing a location of the MS to the G-MSC, a visitor mobile switching center (V-MSC) to provide switching functions to the MS when the MS roams outside the home service area, and a service control point (SCP) which includes service logic for periodically initiating a call attempt to the MS to determine if the MS is busy. When the calling party attempts to call a busy MS, the calling party may request an automatic callback service. The G-MSC releases all trunks from the calling party and the MS and notifies the SCP. The SCP periodically initiates a call attempt to ascertain whether the MS is idle. Upon determining that the MS is idle, the G-MSC connects the call between the calling party and the MS.
