  • Patent number: 5934856
Abstract: Vacuum process chambers are increased or decreased in number when the kind or order of processes is changed, and the shape and size of the transfer chamber are changed with the increase or decrease of the number of the vacuum process chambers, without entailing any change in a load-lock chamber and a transfer arm. The transfer arm has a minimum radius of rotation such that the arm can rotate in a transfer chamber of a minimum size corresponding to a minimum number of vacuum process chambers and a maximum arm reach such that the arm can deliver an object to-be-treated between each vacuum process chamber and a transfer chamber of a maximum size corresponding to a maximum number of vacuum process chambers. Thus, even though the number of the vacuum process chambers are increased or decreased with the change of the processes, it is necessary only that the shape and size of the transfer chamber be changed, and the other components, such as the load-lock chamber, transfer arm, etc.

  • Patent number: 5934249
Abstract: The EGR gas flow is established based on the difference between an assumed value and a control target value of non-air components partial pressure calculated from target control values such as engine torque and at the same time the intake air flow passing through a throttle valve is established based on the difference between an assumed value and a control target value of air components partial pressure and based on the air components within EGR gas. Further, based on thus established EGR gas flow and the intake manifold pressure, the operating amount of an EGR actuator is calculated and based on thus established air flow passing through the throttle valve, the operating amount of an throttle actuator is obtained. Further, based on an estimated value of air components partial pressure, a final basic fuel injection amount is determined.

  • Patent number: 5935140
Abstract: This invention is for a surgical method for modifying the curvature of the cornea. The method involves making a semicircular lamellar cut on the cornea to form a superficial layer which remains connected to the cornea in a superior zone so as to form a flap. The superficial is raised to expose the underlying surfaces which are subjected to the desired ablation. The superficial layer is then replaced over the underlying surface so as to adhere. By forming a flap with the connecting hinge region in a superior zone, the flap which is raised during the operation and then replaced will be smoothed over the remaining part of the cornea under the effects of the blinking movement of the eyelid and by gravity. This encourages the distension and centering of the superficial layer and enhances the effects of the ablative treatment. The method of the invention also provides greater ease and convenience to the surgeon performing the method.

  • Patent number: 5928153
Abstract: An ultrasound flow velocity and Doppler angle measurement method and system is provided for measuring the velocity and direction of a flow, such as the blood flow in a human body, in a non-contact manner through ultrasound means. In practical applications, this ultrasound flow velocity measurement method and system can be utilized, for example, in the field of physiological diagnosis for blood-flow velocity measurement to determine whether the patient suffers from blood vessel disorders, such as embolism and aneurysm. Precise measurement can be achieved through the use of just one set of ultrasound transducer in the system configuration; therefore, this ultrasound flow velocity measurement method and system is simpler in system configuration and more cost-effective to use than the prior art. Experimentation shows that the estimation has a standard deviation of less than 4.5.degree. for Doppler angle range from 45.degree. to 80.degree.. Therefore, the measurement results are trustworthy to use.

  • Patent number: 5926893
Abstract: Apparatus for cleaning internal surfaces of water closets ("WCs") and similar fixtures includes a container to be placed near the fixture to be cleaned. A brush is stored in a lower section of the container, and it is removed from the container to clean the WC. A water supply system in an upper section of the container includes water conduits and a flexible tube which is retractably mounted on a rolling up device. Water flows from the flexible tube through the brush handle to an impeller which rotates the brush, and the water sprays the bristles to keep the brush clean and to prevent the formation of deposits on the bristles. When the brush is inside the container, a cleaning rod protrudes into the bristles, and the brush is rotated to clean its bristles further.
