  • Patent number: 8211286
Abstract: The production of oxidation-stable and mechanically strong metal layers having a black color presents a particular challenge in the area of electrochemical finishing, especially since there are only a few metals which are suitable for this purpose. A possibility which is not hazardous to health, in contrast to nickel, and is economical compared with rhodium is the electrochemical production of black ruthenium layers. The invention provides an electrolyte and a method using this electrolyte for producing black ruthenium layers on pieces of jewelry, decorative goods, consumer goods and technical articles. The electrolyte is distinguished in that one or more phosphonic acid derivatives are used as a blackening additive. These maintain brightness. The degree of blackness of the resulting black ruthenium layer can be adjusted by the choice of the type and amount of the phosphonic acid derivatives used, while maintaining the desired brightness.

  • Patent number: 8211285
Abstract: Consumer goods and industrial articles are electro-plated with bronze layers for decorative reasons and to protect them against corrosion. The electrolytes used hitherto for producing decorative bronze layers are either cyanide-containing or, as in the case of baths based on organosulphonic acids, highly corrosive or have, as in the case of cyanide-free baths based on diphosphoric acid, unsatisfactory long-term stabilities. Electrolytes which are used for applying solderable bronze layers in the electronics industry usually contain toxic or very toxic thio compounds. The present invention provides a non-toxic electrolyte which displays long-term stability for the electrolytic deposition of decorative bronze layers and a corresponding process for the application of such decorative bronze layers to consumer goods and industrial articles.

  • Patent number: 8190071
Abstract: The surface of a developing roller is coated with a phenol resin layer at a higher level in triboelectric series than a toner. A positively charged toner supplied from a magnetic roller onto the developing roller is negatively charged by friction with the phenol resin layer at the higher level in the triboelectric series. As a result, the positive charge of the toner is cancelled out, and the charge amount of toner per unit weight on the developing roller (Q/M)s decreases. Applying this principle, relationship between (Q/M)s and the charge amount of toner per unit weight on the magnetic roller (Q/M)m satisfies (Q/M)s<(Q/M)m.
