The remaining portion of fuel is mixed with the fuel-lean fuel/oxidant mixture downstream of the fuel-lean combustion zone, forming a substantially stoichiometric fuel/oxidant mixture. The stoichiometric fuel/oxidant mixture is ignited, forming a primary flame having high luminosity and low NO.sub.x emissions.

    Abstract: A safety device for a passage closure, such as a garage door, having a drive, a maximum permissible load value which can be set, and a control device by which the drive can be switched off, switch-off occurring when the maximum permissible load value has been reached and a signal S.sub.2 is sent to the control device at a time T.sub.2. A sensor is disposed in the area of the leading edge of the closure. When the sensor encounters an obstacle, it emits a signal S.sub.1 to the control device at a time T.sub.1. Upon reaching the maximum permissible load, the control device determines a .DELTA.T based on T.sub.2 -T.sub.1, compares it to a preset value and if the preset value is exceeded, changes the direction of movement of the closure.

    Abstract: A method an apparatus for controlling frequency of a multi-channel transmitter. A reference frequency is generated and emitted to a thermally stable frequency discriminator. The thermally stable frequency discriminator emits a dc voltage to a plurality of individual oscillators. The individual oscillators in continuous wave mode or modulated by baseband signals are combined into a multi-channel signal at an intermediate range of frequencies. The multi-channel intermediate range of frequencies are preferably amplified and emitted as an output signal. At relatively lower frequencies, such as 4-6 GHz, up-conversion of the output signal is not necessary. At relatively higher frequencies, an up-converter can be used to employ a second thermally stable frequency discriminator.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for the removal and replacement of the used drill bit after each perforation through casing, cement, and into rock while using a flexible drive shaft. This apparatus involves both a bayonet-style "quick connector" between the flexible shaft and the drill bit and a cartridge that holds the drill bits while they await their turn to be used. The apparatus also has a means for indexing the cartridge so that the flexible shaft can have access to each of the drill bits in the cartridge. The method disclosed involves the process of connecting the flexible shaft to the drill bit at the start of the perforating process, the disconnecting of the used bit at the end of the perforation, and the indexing of the cartridge so that the next drill bit is in line with the flexible shaft for the next perforation.

    Abstract: A process and system for removing hydrogen sulfide from a gaseous stream such as one of natural gas. A sour gas stream containing H.sub.2 S is contacted with a nonaqueous, water-insoluble sorbing liquor which comprises an organic solvent for elemental sulfur, dissolved elemental sulfur, an organic base to promote the reactions, and an organic solubilizing agent an agent suitable for maintaining the solubility of polysulfide intermediates which may otherwise separate when they are formed during operation of the process. Hydrogen sulfide (H.sub.2 S) gas is sorbed into this liquor and then reacts with the dissolved sulfur in the presence of the base to form polysulfide molecules. The solution is then sent to a reactor where sufficient residence time is provided to allow the polysulfide forming reactions to reach the desired degree of completion. From the reactor, the solution flows to a regenerator where the solution is oxidized (e.g., by contact with air), forming dissolved elemental sulfur and water.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for injecting fuel and oxidant into a combustion burner. At a fuel exit plane of a fuel discharge nozzle, fuel is discharged in a generally planar fuel layer which has an upper boundary and a lower boundary. At an oxidant exit plane, oxidant is preferably discharged in both a top layer along the upper boundary of the fuel layer and a bottom layer along the lower boundary of the fuel layer. In a downstream flow direction, the fuel and oxidant preferably converge in a generally vertical plane and diverge in a generally horizontal plane. The discharged fuel and oxidant form a fishtail or fan-shaped flame configuration. The fuel exit plane can be moved upstream or downstream with respect to the oxidant exit plane to vary the flame characteristics and the flame shape. A refractory manifold can be used to further enhance the fishtail or fan-shaped flame configuration.

    Abstract: An apparatus for adjustably mounting an arrow rest wherein a pivot shaft is mounted within a through bore of a sleeve, so that the pivot shaft can pivot or rotate between a normal rest position and a maximum forward position. The sleeve is mounted with respect to a bracket that is fixed with respect to an archery bow riser. Opposing end portions of the pivot shaft extend beyond corresponding end surfaces of the sleeve. One of the end portions of the pivot shaft is housed within an end cap bore. A spring has one end foot attached or mounted with respect to the end cap and an opposing end foot attached or mounted with respect to the one end portion of the pivot shaft housed within the end cap bore. A pair of keeper elements and a wave washer or other spring element are attached to or mounted with respect to the pivot shaft to significantly reduce horizontal movement or longitudinal play of the pivot shaft with respect to the sleeve and thus of the arrow rest within a corresponding shooting window.
