  • Patent number: 5530391
Abstract: A filter that has a resonator operated in series resonance and a two-pole terminal resonator circuit with a resonator whose electric conductance can be divided into a useful component and a parasitic component. A first differential stage actuated by a signal source and having two active elements whose ground connections are each linked to a respective current source and to a respective connection of the two-terminal resonator. A compensation circuit having two connections and which simulates the parasitic component of the resonator electric conductance is connected to a second differential stage which actuated by the signal source, is of the same type as the first differential stage, and has two active elements whose ground connections are each linked to a respective current source and to a respective connection of the compensation circuit. An evaluation circuit is linked to the two mutually reversed, i.e. connected in phase opposition, output connections of the two differential stages.

  • Patent number: 5510890
Abstract: In a laser radar system, in which pulses from a laser are focused by a telescope onto a target, the back-scattered radiation being deflected by polarizing beam splitter onto a detector in conjunction with a reference beam, the reference beam being produced from pulses derived from the pulse laser by the beam splitter, the pulses making repeated journeys around a cavity and a proportion of the pulse being emitted each time so that each input pulse produces a multiplicity of output pulses to form the reference beam, thereby avoiding the need for a separate laser for the reference beam.

  • Patent number: 5506479
Abstract: A device for operating a gas discharge lamp (11) which is triggered by pulses which are transmitted by a starting device (14). In order to isolate the electrical components of a ballast (12) or a power supply apparatus (10) during the starting process, a reactor (13) which is constructed as a saturable reactor is provided in the ballast. The inductance of the saturable reactor is reduced by the operating current flowing after starting of the lamp (11). The device according to the invention is particularly suitable for starting high-pressure gas discharge lamps, the starting power of the lamp (11) made available by the starting device (14) being made virtually completely available.

  • Patent number: 5506362
Abstract: An .alpha.-amino acid amide is prepared by reaction of an N.sup..alpha. -aryloxycarbonylamino acid with a compound containing a free amino group. This process makes it possible readily to prepare peptides, by direct reaction between the carboxyl group of the N.sup..alpha. -aryloxycarbonyl derivative of an amino acid and the free amino group of a second amino acid or of a peptide fragment, without requiring protection of the carboxyl function of the second amino acid or of the peptide fragment, nor a coupling agent nor a deprotection step.

  • Patent number: 5497661
Abstract: A delay time measurement method for ultrasound of the type wherein a testing head transmits an excitation pulse that is as close as possible to the shape of a shock wave and traverses a pretravel path until it reaches the object to be examined which has a front wall and a rear wall, with at least one reflected pulse being generated at its front wall as well as at its rear wall. To improve the above-mentioned type method so that delay time measurements for thickness determinations and abnormalities can be performed reliably even on rough surfaces and if reflected pulses are missing or falsified, a time window is determined for the recording of reflected pulses that follow the excitation pulse, within which window all successive reflected pulses are digitized.

  • Patent number: 5489829
Abstract: A parameter identifier which estimates parameters of a plant includes a model, a subtracter, a delay circuit, and a parameter adaptive mechanism. Disturbances are assumed to be represented by an impulse train consisting of a finite number (=m) of impulses. The model estimates n state variables and the output of the plant on the basis of the input and output of the plant. The subtracter outputs the error between the output of the plant and the estimated output. The delay circuit delays the state variables outputted from the model by N (.ltoreq.n+m+1) samples before applying them to the parameter adaptive mechanism. The parameter adaptive mechanism calculates the parameters on the basis of the products of the error and the delayed state variables. The number N is determined such that the effect of the disturbance on the error disappears in N samples from the beginning of the disturbance.

  • Patent number: 5490262
Abstract: A CPU connected to a memory storing module programs has an instruction cache for reading a module header heading a module program and module instructions following the module header out of the memory, and storing and transferring them. An operand cache reads module data included in the module program of interest out of the memory, and stores and transfers them. A processing section performs arithmetic and logical operations in pipelining with the module header of the module program transferred from the instruction cache and with the module data transferred from the operand cache. A pipelined instruction control controls other circuitry of the CPU by decoding the module instructions of the module program transferred from the instuction cache. The CPU transfers the module header to the processing section via the instruction cache while writing the whole block of module header and module instructions to the instruction cache.

  • Patent number: 5487438
Abstract: A driving system for an electric vehicle which drives wheels thereof with the aid of an AC motor via an inverter while a battery is used as a power source is constructed such that the primary side and the secondary side of the AC motor are rotatably supported in a motor frame. One of the primary and the secondary sides of the AC motor is operatively connected to a power transmission shaft for one of a left-hand wheel and a right-hand wheel via a reversible type speed reducing mechanism while the direction of rotation of the power transmission shaft is reversed relative to that of the one of the primary and secondary sides. The other one of the primary and the secondary sides of the AC motor is operatively connected to a power transmission shaft for the other one of the wheels via a non-reversible type speed reducing mechanism while the direction of rotation of the power transmission shaft is kept unchanged relative to that of the other one of the primary and secondary sides.
